Went great. Never did 20 in training before and I didn’t get to 20 without walking in both marathons I’ve ran. So today made me really happy.
20 without walking...something I’ve come to terms with myself that I’ll never be able to do. Got to 13 in my marathon without walking, and I could see maybe pushing that to 15. But never 20.
my first marathon I think I did 16-17 without walking which was my longest running at the time. My 2nd I ran the whole thing without walking. I trained better for the second so it can be done just have to train. Now I feel much more comfortable doing half’s. I want to do fulls at 50, 60 and 70 at least and go from there to see how long (old) I can go.
lol it's not dropping below 65 for the remainder of the weekend (like overnight even) fuck outta here
Are we neighbors? Wanted to go on a run woke up at 10 and it was 80 already so said fuck that jumped on my bike and lifted a little.
My first marathon training was great. I prob had a little too much booze throughout the weeks but I didn’t miss too many runs, especially long ones. Went a little too fast though, so I think my muscles were broken down a bit over time. Race day was pretty warm and I just went out and ran, not really pacing myself. Just after mile 17, I jumped up from the street to the curb and I cramped up in one leg. Eventually cramped in the other leg. Was on pace for a 3:50 marathon when it happened and just slowed me down so much. Second marathon training was trash and I’m surprised I even finished. Walked a lot more. Wasn’t happy and truly thought I’d never run one again. Now here I am training for a virtual race hahaha. Insane.
Daughter is going into 7th grade and started cross country this week. They only run a mile for races and she has been doing mile and 2 mile for summer track but told her it will be different on trails. She is pretty fast though so it should be fun to watch! I’ve never been a runner but am fat and out of shape...good starter program?
dalbers32 in my very unprofessional opinion, maybe try jog 5 minutes and walk 25 minutes and move jog up a minute each go until the full 30 is jogging
My initial plan was to jog a mile then walk out the remainder of 30-40 minutes to start. For every 5 lbs lost I would increase the jog by quarter of a mile. Probably need to lose 50 lbs
I should add that I work by myself and am out in the middle of nowhere Kansas during the day so I can do this during my lunch break.
Had a great five mile run this morning and now I'm starting to talk myself into running NYC next year, assuming life is kind of normal again.
truthfully start by the walking. When you can walk 30-45 minutes try and start jogging. Worst thing you can do is go out too much too fast and get discouraged.
Exactly. When I started running in 2015 that's what I did, I tried to beat my previous time every time I went out and damn that burned me out. I learned after a while about pacing and slowing down and how important that is, just to get some consistent mileage in and don't worry about the speed, after a while fitness will magically improve.
I just need some better shoes and I can beat that for sure. Honestly though, don't know the math on how many times he would lap me while I do a single mile at my typical 9 to 10 minute mile.
hadn't done shit since that Friday (spite) outing 8 this morning with none of the splits over 9, which I think is new for me (there's usually 2 or 3 that get closer to 9:30)
It makes it tough. I also am wearing a surgical mask for the entire run. Since I moved downtown, just too many people out even at 6:30a to have to drop it down then put it back up again. I am just telling myself that when the winter comes and it's chill and maybe I can take the mask off, I'm going to be running fast times. This morning after two rest days was pretty awesome at 8:51 per.
Based on my math at 10 minute miles. They complete one lap in 60 seconds, you would do one lap in 2min 30sec Every lap you do would be 2.5 laps for them. By the time they are finished you would have been lapped 9 times and not even be halfway done with your 5K
So true. Strava weather on my run tonight says 77 degrees and it felt amazing. Planned on 5 miles but extended it to 6.4 miles.
I signed up for my first half marathon this morning (Oct 4th), then ran my longest run and feel great.
Knocked out 12 this morning. Went great. Six weeks til race day. Crazy how 12 feels like a short Saturday run after so many 14+ mile runs as of late.
I knocked out 12 this morning as well. Went horrible. It's crazy how hard 12 feels after running so many 14+ mile runs in the past. I'm fat and slow now.
Jealous of that weather. You're doing great man keep it up. Have you already figured out goal race pace? Your 12: Clear Temperature 67 ℉ Humidity 82% Feels like 68 ℉ My 12 Cloudy Temperature 85 ℉ Humidity 76% Feels like 95 ℉
Waited till this afternoon to run... I'm dying. But I hit my 25 miles on the week so I'm pretty happy about that! Also over 1100ft elevation gain this week
My usual Christmas 10k has gone virtual this year. I am debating signing up. It seems weird to spend $45 to go run on my own. I still get the shirt, bib and medal. I think I read that they are also giving a Christmas ornament. I kinda want to do it support them but like it said it’s weird to just give money for something I usually do for free. Thoughts on virtual races?
If the race supports a cause I’m interested in, I’d consider registering just to help out, otherwise I’m not going to pay to run alone
I've done a couple virtual races that are included with my Atlanta Track Club membership. They don't feel like anything more than a regular training run. I'm signed up for the Peachtree Road Race and that just went virtual. We will see how that one goes.
If you like that organization, support them as much as you can right now. Covid has hit them especially hard.
My hips are so tight it’s painful. Skipped today’s run to stretch and roll them. Hoping that a week off work nextweek will give me the time to get them right before fall.
ATC is fantastic and I do as much as I can. My kid is part of their kilometer kids program too. I hope we get back to normal next year. A lot of these organizations are in a lot of trouble.
