Half marathon this morning at 1:32:19.38. Should have started a little slower, came very close to a 10K PR at the beginning. My 5K splits were roughly 20:50, 21:30, 22:10 and 22:50.

Was about 1 foot away from getting run over this morning, closest call ever. Be careful and observant out there.

Went to your Strava to see if I could see where the incident was. Can't figure it out, but I left once again being very jealous about the lack of elevation.

Virtual races are just not fun. I've run one in person race since covid and did great in comparison on a shitty course.

I'll only do a virtual race if it's free or has amazing swag

This thread hasn't had a post in a while so I'm bumping with a dad brag. Super proud of my 9 year old. He decided to start running with me 2 miles weekly back in August and his gains are amazing.

His goal is 10 minute miles

Great race weekend, although I’m feeling it today. On Saturday, I ran a 5k with some friends who are getting into running and i won my age group (40-44) with a 21:14.
On Sunday, ran in a half and did ok. Didn’t PR, but wasn’t far off with a 1:48:54. Tons of rolling hills with a bitch of a climb from mile 4 to mile 6. Good enough for a top 5 in my age group, though.

I'm running the Detroit Marathon this Sunday for 2nd time. Ran it for the 1st time in 2016. Looking forward to another one, though this year the race will not go into Canada due to Covid.

My goal for this one . . . finish the race.

Detroit Marathon is super cool and pretty, especially the stretch on the Canada side. It should be a destination race for people

PR in the Columbus Marathon, but not by as much as I would have liked. 3:18:54; was aiming for about five minutes faster than that.

Ran 4:14 at the Detroit this weekend. Beat my first time by 19 mins. Ran a faster 2nd half than the 1st. Great weather and ran with some fun strangers.

That's awesome, nice work. I know felt good hitting that finish line.

Going from from 36 to sub-30 is about exactly what I did around 37 years old. You can keep it going! I liked doing things like not only setting an over all time goal, but set a pace goal, like "under 9min pace" 8:59 pace is 27:55 5K. Have fun!

Started feeling knee pain during my 18 mile training run last weekend, so I rested most of this week and attempted my regularly planned 20 miler this morning. Ran 14 with a group with virtually no issues, just a little soreness. Drove home to finish the last 6 on the treadmill and when I got home the knee was completely locked up.

Anyone ever dealt with something similar? I’m thinking (hoping) maybe it’s an IT band issue that can be worked out in the next 3-4 weeks.

It may not be relatable but, my only experience with anything like that was...

Early on during the first year I started running, immediately after a race the outside of my left knee was painful when I attempted to run a "cool down" mile after the race. Like, I couldn't run, so I stopped. I was told to foam roll the IT band (note: not by a doctor, but by other experienced runners). I did that, and was running again in a few days, and haven't had that issue come back. I foam roll the IT bands gently occasionally now just out of habit and hoping that issue never comes back.

Top 10 age group finish and top 10% overall finish in the Thanksgiving 4-miler this morning. Beat my goal of under an 8 minute pace.

Not my best time. This was my first big race though and I didn’t anticipate how difficult it would be to overtake.

If anything, I have more motivation for the race in May (same course)

Felt good running the past few days, love the cold. Signing up for the Publix Half here in Atlanta, and my son is doing the 5K!

I'm gonna shoot for sub 2 hours, haven't been able to do that in 3 years.

Got the Peleton Tread a month or so ago for the GF. Due to cold rains and snow over the last month, I have used that quite a bit. I have done a couple HIIT/Intervals/Hills each week for between 20 mins to an hour. Had a pheonomal run outside yesterday at a pace I haven't had in a while.

In short, run intervals and hills to increase your pace. Can't be restated enough

Any heart rate runners on here?

I have alway just run based on feel. I had a goal for awhile so my fast days would just be under that goal. Then easy days would be just whatever felt easy for the day which would be anywhere from 8:30 to 9:30. I recently decided to give the "zone 2" heart rate running strategy a try. But i'm really struggling to keep it in Zone 2. To stay in that zone it's nearly a 15 minute pace, which is slower than just walking.

My 5k time is right at 21:00 and half marathon is around 1:45. The stuff I've read has said, my high zone 2 just means I don't have an aerobic base at all. But I just find it hard to believe considering I could run the half without even training for it.

Bout to head out for another 7 miles. 7 miles per day starting 12/6/21 for the rest of the year... because why not. Hope I don't get injured. Easy pace mostly. Have to keep up good recovery if I'm going to make it through this.

Covid booster shot had me out of commission on Saturday 12/4.

Finished a very shitty marathon at Kiawah Island earlier today. Hottest one they’ve ever had and my whole body revolted continuously after mile 10. Somehow gutted out 4:45 which is far short of my sub-4 goal, but it was a battle to even finish with that time.

Don't know if it's destination, but going to Boise and Detroit/Windsor to do some Halfs at least.

Might not seem like a destination, but doing the Detroit/Windsor one is really great, if it can occur

What makes it crazier is I run in 80+ degree weather most of the year, but my big mileage in fall marathon prep usually doesn’t put me in anything above 60 degrees.

Lesson learned, I’ll be running 20+ throughout the spring and summer this year to prep for this year’s marathon.

I did Hal Higdon for my last half and full and I felt undertrained for the last few miles.

I've just been winging it this time with plans to get up to a 15 mile long run 2 weeks before my half.
