Set a distance goal by a certain date. Run slow, gradually build. I have no experience with the app, but that’s my recommendation. The weight is the end goal, but weight comes off naturally when you are chasing the distance goal which requires good nutrition.
Thanks. I have in mind that I would like to be able to do 3 miles maybe 4-5 times a week. I naturally get up at around 5:00 and instead of just wasting time on the shitter or on my laptop, I figured I’d start my day with a run. Obviously, I don’t expect to just go out and run 3 miles without working up to it so I was looking into the app to develop a plan for working up to it.
Start with a mile. Drive the route in your car and pick a landmark at say 1/2 mile. Know you want to be there in say 6 minutes. Wear a watch with stopwatch function, try to make that time/distance. Turn around to go home, slow down a bit if you need to. Weekly/bi-weekly goal: second half mile as fast as the first. When that's not killing you, either knock a little time off or increase distance. Say, 3/4 mile out and back. Or set a time goal of 30 seconds faster over distance as what your 1 mile times were. As comfortable, adding distance is probably healthier than trying to add crazy speed. You can track all this on paper or spreadsheet, and adjust as you go. I started a year and a half ago running 24 minute 2 mile pace 4 times a week. I'm now comfortable at a 10 minute mile pace, do 30 miles a week, and have my second and third half marathon this fall. Went from 215 down to 175lbs. Slow and steady, less injury and stress. Stick with it, you can do it.
Slow and steady is the key, to Greybeard's point. Running slow is where it's at. I've run with people who sprint past me and sputter out and then are gasping and have to walk to recover, and I just pass them at my leisurely pace.
Very true. I'm not setting the world on fire at 10 minutes per mile, but I can now keep that pace for 10 miles plus comfortably. Breathe in for four steps, breathe out for four steps. Any fewer steps per in/out, for me, gets to be too fast on level ground. And I'm just "competing" against me.
Couch 2 5K app is the easiest, most mindless training app. Starts off super easy and progresses at a moderate pace. It’s all about keeping your HR low. So don’t be ashamed of 12 minute miles.
502 miles on the year so far 498 miles left to reach 1k 19 weeks left, so 26.2 miles per week needed I can do this but need to get started asap where ya’ll at
586 miles completed 614 miles to reach my 1200 mile goal started out the year really slowly, but should get to 1200 pretty easily through marathon training
1200 was the goal last year and this year the goal is to run a full. Signed up for Kiawah Marathon in Dec. 859mi so far this year.
Pray for good weather. We got fucked last year and it was 80+ with high humidity on race day. My previous attempt was 19 degrees at the start. Just wholly unpredictable.
Congrats to everyone who keeps a yearly total. For some reason that never occured to me, I just track my weekly, never an ongoing total. I should start Jan 1st... Did sign up for my second 13.1 this week, end of October. I can't imagine running a full marathon, more power to you all, lol.

I ran a race with her. “With” obviously dramatically overstates my role. But she is every bit as chill and normal as she seems in interviews and docs.
19 miles in 2:28, and I feel much better than I did last week after 18 miles in 2:21. 20 next Saturday, then I start to taper.
Feeling great this morning. Got to stand on the podium for the first time ever. 3rd in my age group. Also personal best. Training for 10K has been great for my 5Ks.
Anyone use a simple free interval timer, that allows a simple “run 3 mins, walk 2 mins” timer with audible notifications?
I've used the free-level of Intervals Pro for a similar purpose and it seems like it'd fit your requirements.
Headed to a raceand Im pacing the two hour group in a half marathon. It’s the first time that I’ve ever paced a race. I’m really looking forward to it, as two hours is kind of one of those marks where I think I’ll have a big group. This race has a really challenging climb starting at mile five and going for about a mile and a half or two, so we’ll see who the real ones are pretty quick
I started tracking mileage on paper at the beginning of September, figured I'd keep myself accountable here as well. 103.7 for the month. Have my second half marathon coming up near the end of October, I'm really looking forward to it. I'll probably taper back some over the winter.
Had a half get cancelled this weekend because of the hurricane. Pretty anticlimactic after 10 weeks of training. Going to run my own next weekend with the two guys who were supposed to run with me. Goal is two hours which is 9 min pace I’m sure most know. Was able to break into the 8s in my last long run (10, 8:45 pace, actually crushed it) but that might have been one of those “good days”. Going to try and turn around and run a 5k at Thanksgiving and break 24. Back to cycling and ski training after that.
Paced the 2hr group and finished in 1:59:33. Pretty damn close. what a rewarding experience, too. Lots of fun.
Front outer shin strain on both legs while running, enough to halt me to stretch midway through a shorter run. Shoes are getting kind of old so I’m blaming them rather than my form. I’ve had occasional right leg front outer shin tightness but now it’s both.
Racing a half tomorrow. I’ve been training for a full in December and not necessarily for a half, so have been going back and forth and whether to run with friends or to try to PR. Fastest half is 1:46 and change and I’d like to be under 1:45:00. The weather in Pensacola is going to be sunny and low 60s during the race. I’d prefer low 50s, but pretty nice conditions.
I used to run the Army 10 Miler every year. It was yesterday, and seeing the pictures made me feel old and fat. Gotta start somewhere indeed.
Nuttycombe Invitational day in Madison Women's 6K in about 40 mins and men's 8K in a little over an hour
