Are there any other apps that are better/should I switch to like a Garmin watch for better tracking?

Entered the lottery for Chicago Marathon next year. If it's in the stars for me to run one I'll be selected

First morning run in the 20's this morning. We've dipped down near freezing a couple times but there was a hard frost and 26° today at 5:30am. 4 miles @ 9:32 avg.

Love my Garmin (had an Apple Watch 3 or 4 forever and switched last December; battery life is great, charge like once a week/every other week depending on how much I run and it's great for sleep tracking as well). I use the native Garmin app to track runs and have my Strava account synced to it so it auto imports.

    Does the distance/pacing seem accurate?

Just finished my first two race challenge this morning at Disney with 10k/half. Pretty shocked how good I felt during the whole thing. HOKAsuper cushion shoes made a big difference.

but I replied becusse my half according to Strava was 13.77 miles.

How do yall deal with running long distances outdoors with a phone? I don’t want to fork over money for a cellular Apple Watch and am training for a half marathon

Same. I have iphone 13 mini just for this reason. Fits easy in under armour speed pocket shorts.

Flip belt for shorter runs (anything less than 4, 4.5 miles), there's also a side pouch that I put my keys in. Longer than that I use my Solomon vest and put it in one of the pockets.

Thinking about getting compression shorts with a little tight pocket for phones so it’s not bouncing around as much

That running vest looks like it might be a good buy for the half marathon though

Flip belt and spin it around so the phone rests on the small of your back so it barely moves.

I have a iPhone 15 pro that fits in my flip belt, under armor compression shorts, and both of these shorts well. I prefer the belt the least but I still use it periodically.

Ran an "easy" 5k tonight and time was under 30 minutes. First time I've run a 5k under 30 minutes since July 2023. Feeling a little speed and endurance coming back, just in time for a turkey trot next week!

Yesterday Turkey Trot 27:19, 8:45 pace. Went into it with a sub-29 min goal. Damnnnn consistent mileage does indeed pay off.

    Today 5 miles easy

Dang that is chilly. Expected to warm up at all during the race? What will you wear at that temp?

Coldest race I ever ran started at 39 but by race end, it was in the 60's. Wore shorts and tank, with sweats over that before the race and took the sweats off right when the race started and tossed them. Also wore gloves and beanie but eventually took those off.

So I'm really thinking I'm going to try to run my first full marathon next fall, already signed up for my next half in April. If I'm lucky enough I plan on doing Chicago, if not then I'm looking at the twin cities MN full in October...

Hardcore. My south FL blood could not do that without gloves and beanie.

Did a 5K Turkey Trot Thanksgiving morning and PRd at 20:18.

I just *know* I would have broken the 20:00 barrier if not for jackasses that insist on starting near the front that have no business doing so. I was even standing in front of the 7:00/mile pace sign and had to dodge so many slower people in the first ⅓ of a mile!

Why are there little kids near the front!? Why don't people stay as far to the right as possible on a narrow trail unless passing!? Bah.

Running the Seattle half Sunday morning and it looks like it'll be 37 at the start and around 39 two hours later. Won't try for a PR due to it having some serious hills in a couple spots.

Started out "slow" because I thought the elevation change would impact me more than it did...

Began to try harder in the second mile and did indeed finish with a PR by shaving several minutes off! First half below 1:40!
