Nice! I'm liking my Brooks Glycerin 13's. They look like the Glycerin and Ghost have pretty similar features. I'd like to try something like this just for 5k/10k races... a lighter 6.4oz, ever try these or any other "racing flats"? http://www.brooksrunning.com/en_us/...l?dwvar_110234_color=083&dwvar_110234_width=D
Whidbey Island half in Oak Harbor. Way too many hills for my liking and considering I never really trained for it, it especially blew.
If you start really getting into running and ever want to do some track work or anything let me know.
Im getting my wife(track/xc coach) to write me a plan to break 19 for the fall, I'll share the plan when she's done
Will do! I think I'm going to get fitted at a running store to get some better shoes to run in, so I think that's the biggest takeaway from this running experience.
Best thing you can do. Several people laugh at me when I say I can't run in nikes but they just don't fit my feet. Brooks have been far and away the best for me. Getting fitted will make running far more enjoyable.
Tell me about people's experiences with Brooks Ghosts. Have had Glycerin's last 3 shoes but it's that time where I'm starting to feel a little tenderness after runs. I love my Glycerins but if they are comparable, I'm all for saving 50 dollars.
Just took the insoles out my asics and boy did that make a difference. 3.5 miles at 10 per. Haven't been running that much just once last week and today. Boy my lungs are shot. I thought cycling would keep me somewhat ready but I can cycle 25 miles no problem but barely did those 3.5
Yeah. Don't know why but I am not even in a little bit of pain. Been having lots of knee and calf pain. Last week I ran and felt it a little bit. Today nothing it was just my lungs that didn't let run longer.
I just ran 5k for the first time in my life. 37 minutes isn't fast by any means, but I'm still pleased I was able to do it without walking. What should my next step be? Go further or decrease time?
I had never even heard of brooks running shoes until I got a pair at Fort Benning. They're the best pair of shoes I've ever owned.
The right fit for you. Especially if you're going to run distance. Then again, I'm a heavy 40 something, so shoes are very important for support and saving wear on my aging joints. If you're going to be running a lot, just hit up a local running store to have them fit you and give advice on what you need for what you plan to do.
Also-- brand loyalties vary. I've bought running shoes in brands that I never considered for regular athletic shoes. There are a lot if good ones out there and no right or wrong choice. Personal fit is most important.
I run in Nike and it feels good. But I feel best in the cheap ones they sell at Kohls. The "best" ones hurt my feet or ankles.
Did a shake out run of a few miles. Feeling pretty good headed into my race. I'll hit almost 140 miles this month.
Ran on a track for the first time today. LIKED IT. Didn't go fast or any special speedwork, just ran a few laps. Nice to switch up the running surface. Also, Strava has segments for the track. Sweeeeet.
Ran 10 at a little over 9 a mile today, was 75 when I started and over 85 when I finished. Lungs felt great and think I could have pushed it a lot more, legs do not currently feel great.
A little but of a bloodbath today. Hot and 4k of vertical is an unpleasant combo. Fought cramps for all of the second half of the race.
It was a good first week back into actual consistent running. I used to be really active in here, then joined Crossfit. Still ran but was inconsistent and focused more on that. Quit CF after tearing my MCL and deciding to move from DC this summer. Goal is to run sub 20 5K this summer and finally attack the marathon goal by fall. Mileage: 24.6 Total time: 3 hrs, 1 min, 14 seconds Average pace: 7:22/mile
Terrible half marathon for me today It was really hot, think heat index was 82 by 7 am Was shooting for sub 1:36 and ran 1:53 #feelsbadman
I think I need to more hard 1 hour continuous runs Those are really important for half's, at least for me, and I didn't really get any in this half training
Damn, tough to run in any heat like that. DC was similar to that today and I was glad that I was planning on a slow pace, longer run anyways. Did 6 at 7:58 and was sweating like a hog. Need to get accustomed to it again.
Was 5 in 55+ today after doing 10 at 9 per on Saturday. Winds seem to bother me much more than anything else. Can deal with humidity decently well, heat, cold weather, just terrible if there is a decent wind. Really annoyed by it.
Given your training runs I'm guessing a sub 20 5K should be well within reach (and soon). What's your current PR?
Hey! I have a half marathon Sunday! Life has really made consistent training difficult, but I'm confident I'll still beat last year's time, as long as it stays cool.
http://www.runnersworld.com/race-training/solving-the-5k-puzzle here's a really good article about 5k training

I ran 10:45 pace last year in heat and humidity. The Flying Pig is notorious for hills, but we are rewarded with beautiful river views. My second half in October was also hilly but much cooler and I was a few pounds lighter and a more experienced runner. I ran it at a 10:15 pace. I'd like to match that 10:15 pace Sunday. Keep in mind, I'm 43 years old and stout and have only been running distance for about 15 months. Good thing is, the forecast is looking much cooler and less humid than last year. I've had lifelong marathon runners tell me how bad the humidity affected them last year.
I ran 4 miles today and at a slightly faster pace than my 3 mile run last week. The arches of my feet and hips were hurting though. Is this something that will go away or am I doing something wrong?
I'm sure you've all been anxiously awaiting it, so here are last week's runs: Tues: 3 miles @ 11:07 Wed: 4 miles @ 10:57 Thurs: 3 miles @ 11:30 Sat: 3 miles @ 10:47 Love me the de-load week. This week is 3/5/3/9 mile runs, except I skipped today's 3 already. Whatever.
