Been going to the gym lately and it's helping my running. Decided to lyft there and run home. Pretty cool run a little over 3 miles. Think that is what I am gong to do for awhile. Taking out the insoles has worked wonders.
First time I've ever strung together 4 consecutive weeks of 5-6 days of running. The consistency feels good. Into week 5 now.
Few elites are attempting to break 2 hours in the marathon tonight (10:45 pm central, 5:45 am in Italy) http://news.nike.com/news/how-to-watch-nike-breaking2-sub-2-marathon
"Buy the photo for $349.99" killed me. By the way, looking forward to running 4.3 Godzilla penises this weekend.
Dear Diary- This week's runs: Wed: 5 miles at 11:08 Thurs: 3 miles at 10:40 Sat: 9 miles at 11:52 Could be worse. Could be better. Whatever.
repoocs Hope you started out like a coked-up orangutan this AM and did well. Patiently awaiting your update.
Mid-week runs I push myself to see how I'm improving. For long runs, I keep pace with my wife. She's a bit slower at best pace, and she's been struggling this training round. For our half coming up, it will probably be at the slower pace overall.
Hah! Started in a big crowd, which forced me to pace myself. Still...ran this race in 2:34 last year. Hoped to run this year at 2:15. Ran it in 2:11:33 with a negative split. It's amazing what a year's experience and a lot less humidity can do. My wife cut 11 minutes off her time, too. Flying Pig is a great event if anybody's ever looking for a midwest race. Thousands of fans turn out. You're literally never without a cheering section.
Not sure yet. I'm doing Kings Island again on the first. I want a Charlie Brown shirt. The Mrs. is doing the Queen Bee the following week. We may try to do one together, and that could be the Urban Bourbon.
Finished in 3:08:59. Not BQ, but still pretty happy with that. I'm confident I'll hit in the fall. I was at 3:24 in November so I think I can improve on that.
Just to finish or finish at the same pace you run your 5 at ? You could probably train for a month and finish a half in respectable time.
Depends on what you're asking. Just finish? Improve your per mile time. I'd say to finish you'd probably need to train 12-16 weeks.
That's cruising, great job. As cliche as it sounds, I find more value in the journey to get to the race than the race itself. Find a race a few months out and work through a good training plan (Hal Higdon maybe?).
Higdon's Novice 1 and Novice 2* plans are 12 week plans. Just guessing, but if you're at 5 miles now, you're approximately 1/3 of the way into training. So I would say if you push the limits, 4-5 weeks and you could do it with some effort. Give it 7-8 weeks and you'll be good. Just work your way back to where the 6 mile long run is your next week and start there. * Novice 1 is less mileage per week. If you're not running 4 times weekly now, this is probably the better plan.
Pulled a muscle in my lower back Wednesday playing golf. Ran 4 miles Friday and then 5 Miles Saturday. Had to walk .5 of the 5 miles Saturday. Upper back and hip started to kill me. Guess I was running differently to try to avoid back pain. Tens unit, Ice Hot, Salonpas, and stretching on a exercise ball all of Sunday. Skipped run this morning. Hope I can get in 3 tomorrow.
My wife just had baby #2 with a c section 3 months ago. She's wanting to start training for a spartan race in December. I don't want her to push herself to fast. Anyone know of a good plan to put her on? I was thinking of just getting her jogging (that's with a silent J) and doing some push up, light workout exercises for a while.
Ran 4 miles again today, this time at 10.5m/mi so around 42 minutes. Definitely an improvement over when I started two weeks ago at nearly 12m/mi and a shorter distance. Seeing real progress is definitely helping to keep me motivated to keep running and doing better, plus I feel better after having done it. I'm hoping to get under a 10 minute mile soon, but today I was focusing on increasing my step count and mechanics. I think my step count was too low before and causing me to have poor mechanics which in turn made me more tired than I should be. Another bonus was when I bumped up the steps per minute in the Spotify run list, the songs got more upbeat and fun which helped distract me.
Thats cruising man. Good shit. Walt Disney Any marathon training plans you have used that you liked ?
I ran the Eugene Marathon. Great course that was mostly flat and the weather was perfect. Highly recommend.
Decided to change it up and go for a timed run tonight rather than distance. I did 25:00 min for 3.76, 6:39 pace. DC spring is such incredible running weather.
Was wasting time at work today and was looking for a 2018 half in San Fran. The one I found was in early Feb. Did the math and noticed I would start training in mid-Nov. In Chicago. Fuck that noise.
19:58 5k today course was a little long and hilly (100+ feet of elevation gain), so feeling pretty good about that time
Really? I feel like there is way too much of easy running (so many 8:10 paces) to break 3:00 (6:51 pace). Did you break 3 doing this?
Heading out in the morning for my first Spartan. Looked at the course map and it's a little over five miles. I'll post the GoPro video after I get it edited. Wish me luck.
