Nice gym in the hotel I'm at so did 3 in 25 on the treadmill, some productive lifting, then 3 in 24. Feeling pretty good so gonna ruin my progress by drinking till the early hours.
Good stuff. I did 12 yesterday down in Miami going back and forth over Rickenbacker bridge. Day #1 of 16 week marathon training. Jealous of you guys who have hilly routes on your daily running. I have to go to bridges. I'm looking at a 2-week schedule like this with one of the mid-week Easy days also being an option rest day if I feel I need it, giving me 5 or 6 days per week of running. days Mon / Tue / Wed / Thu / Fri / Sat / Sun week1 Speed / Easy / Tempo / Easy / Long / rest / Easy week2 Easy / Speed / rest / Tempo / Easy / Long / Easy repeat 8x Spoiler: goliath
My calves fucking hate me, doing all I can to improve strength but always killing me after I push myself running or swimming.
Sorry, been disengaged a bit, but sorry to hear about your race. Real question, though, how does the Charlie Brown swag look? I'm probably doing Kings Island again in the fall.
It's not bad. The hat is surprisingly good quality and the shirt is nice. The women's shirt is a v-neck (not deep) that looks better - wish the men's was too. 10K and half shirts are tec shirts, 5K isn't.
PR'ed my 5K again but still 40 seconds away from joining the sub 20 5K club. It would help if I wasn't such a dope and ran a race with the strategy I put together. Like the horn goes off and I completely lose my mind. Splits were: 6:10 () 6:40 () 7:00()
I sprained my ankle on the first day of my Europe trip and haven't been able to run in nearly a month. All the gains are gonna be lost.
Starting up my Detroit Marathon training this next week. I am starting about a month earlier than I did last year, I want to increase my long runs for each week at a little slower pace. My goal this year is to knock off 24 mins from last years time. I want to run under a 4:10 marathon, it is going to take some work to almost cut a min off of each mile (which would put me around 9:30 mile). My left upper hamstring has really been bothering me over the last couple months. I need to do more stretching before and after my runs, somehow I have to get ride of this lingering pain. I can run through it on a 7 mile run, I am just worried once I start running over 10 miles again how the hammy will feel.
I would suggest not stretching before. Maybe after a 1 mile warm-up but cranking down on a cold muscle is asking for more damage imo. That is all and best of luck.
Ran 3 today at 11:12/mile. First run since the half debacle. Felt OK. Going to look at a 3 mile and a 5 mile each week with more of a focus on lifting for a while.
Nice job! My 5k splits are normally like that :/ It's hard to pace yourself that first mile since so many people sprint off in a 5k
Did a mile trial on the track today at 5:37 Was hoping in the 5:20s Running a mile on the track is so much harder Than a mile loop at a park :/
Just curious, do you run 4 laps or account for the metric conversion somehow? I'm not really familiar with the markings on a track or how people handle that.
Any of y'all run with your kids/is there an age-distance thing/what age should you get specific running shoes?
Yesterday I did the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation climb up the Westin Peachtree Plaza. Fun event kind of like a 5K, but it was cool that all the firefighters and EMT's did it with full gear to honor their fallen brothers from 911. Apparently they sponsor events of this type all around the country. I also decided to stay in town for the holidays this year and run the ATC half marathon. Yesterday's tougher than it should have been stair climb motivated me to get going with training again, so I'll start that after vacation is over in a couple of weeks.
Yeah on most tracks there is a marker for where you would start a mile and then you would do 4 laps from that line and then finish a little past that one at the track finish line
Had that forever. Only thing you can do is stay off of it and massage it a few times a day with a rubber ball, golf ball, or tennis ball. Took me about a month of no running to get rid of it Prayers sent
Went 14 today and it was hot ( 80 degrees, which for Seattle is really hot) which made it so much harder than I'm used to. Gonna have to pull dawn patrol next weekend.
Shitty days at work+not super hot evening = awesome stress relief run. Just did 6.2 at 7:03 pace. Felt like I was flying.
10 miles this morning, which is the longest I've run since a 10 mile race I did in March. The humidity is just brutal. Outside of dropping 10-15lbs (getting there) and starting at like 5am, I have no idea how I'm going to get through anything over 13 miles having to marathon train in the dead of summer. 20 mile runs aren't until September though, so hopefully I figure it out by then.
Just reduce your pace a bit and do it, Hank. And start at 5:30 AM. And you'll naturally lose a few lbs. It'll be fun, I promise. (I'm in the same boat with an October marathon)
did a 3 mile continuous tempo at 6:36 pace on tuesday and then an interval workout of an 800m (6:07) + 400m (5:50) + 800m(6:07) + 400m(5:58) hoping to be ready for a 5k on the 4th and getting sub 19:30
What's your plan for the first mile? Do you set a plan or just go all out? Good luck, nail it! 19:29 5k is 6:16 pace
15 mile long run done. Heat index 92F at 5:30am. I planned on 14 but miscalculated where a water stop was.
Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice.
Did 3 at 10:58 yesterday. The first 2 felt easy, not the third. But lifting this past week was awesome. Starting to get to where I have some strength and endurance, just need to combine it with some running now.
Had a pop last year and definitely not an expert as have had some problems since but it's gotten better. Would take it easy for a couple weeks then build yourself up slowly plus doing exercises to strengthen them.
First ever sub-6:30 mile yesterday...aiming for 1:40:00 in my second half-marathon in October (my first was 1:43:43.)
ran a sub-40 minute five mile tonight for the first time in awhile. fourth run in four days, but i still felt really good.
I usually try and go about 5 seconds faster than goal pace the first mile and try and hold on but I failed this weekend, 19:55 :/ But it was a hilly course and very humid so oh well
If anyone likes Brooks, they are having a big sale on older models. I run in Pure Flows and just got the 5s for $55 with free shipping.
I wish I liked Brooks more because I get 40 percent off since they are a client, but outside of the Launch I really hate their shoes.
I can't long distances in that minimal of a shoe so i cant vouch for that. But the Ravenna and Ghost I am not a fan of. I like their apparel though.
I ran my fill in the Flows a couple of years ago with no issue. I have to wear the minimalist shoe or it feels like they weigh 100 pounds.
Brooks Glycerin fan here. Bought a pair off ebay a few days ago, older model 13's - because they're nowhere else to be found and I haven't tried the 14's or 15's yet.
Anyone else have chronic IT band issues? I've always done a stretch a physical therapist gave me once where you lay on your back and lift one leg up and across your body with a belt.
