Going to run the San Luis Obispo Marathon on 29 April. I’m really just getting back into distance running and struggled to run 8 miles tonight, so my training will be interesting.
Just bought some new Newton’s, gonna get back at it after like 2 years. What’s the couch to marathon book/program.
Anyone have a garmin forerunner 235? It's not calculating my treadmill running correctly. Have you had any luck fixing this?
If anybody's ever wanted to try simple hydration bottles, they're running a special for a few more days. They're not for everybody, but I have no desire to wear any kind of belt so these work for me with a tight drawstring.
It will be next year. The race I ran to qualify was two weeks after the deadline. Not too mad about it looking at this weather
This is such a cool atmosphere. You here Cornelius Suttree? I’m on Bolyston near the south end of the library
I hung back in Coolidge Corner. Mile #24 marker. Still had a whole lot of people out and about despite the weather. All the restaurants on Beacon St were slammed
What type of socks do you all wear? I’ve been running in some kind of heavy Under Armour socks for a while but I think I need something lighter.
Daniel Ocean Did a trail half yesterday in 2:07 that spits out on the beach in Santa Monica. Love nature
Where did it start? Was it 13 one way? I’ve only ran once this year but have 1700 miles on my bike tnus far
Started at caballero canyon trail the top of reseda Blvd in Tarzana, which is where I usually run along mulholland crest. I usually go east toward Encino or west to Woodland Hills. This time went south into Temescal canyon and pacific palisades. 13.75 one way. I’ve done mountain bikes up there too but am hesitant to go solo bc I’m scared
Only ran 32 miles in March. Needed a long break after last year's summer marathon training, October marathon, more training, January marathon, February half. Was just mentally out of it. Ran 6 times in the past 8 days. Just short 3-5 mile runs, but I feel like I've rebooted. Want to qualify for Boston in 2020. Fun times ahead.
Man, good luck. This winter/spring is showing me why I wish I'd gotten into this sooner. Like before kids sooner, because as tough as it is getting into a rhythm now with the usual activity of middle schoolers, it would have been tougher with younger kids that couldn't be left home alone while running. But I kind of burned out last week while prepping for my half on May 6 so I took a week off. I ran last night, and while I wasn't fast, it just felt better and I enjoyed it more. Signing up for long races gives me the discipline to keep me moving, but I'm wondering if I wouldn't enjoy it more if I just did it regularly, mixed with other workouts and had the discipline to keep at it. Who am I kidding? After I drag my slow, old, fat ass across that Flying Pig finish line, I'll start searching for a new race in the fall to replace my usual which isn't being run this year. I'm giving serious consideration to a full in Columbus in October...just once to cross that one off my list before I get too much older. (I'm 44 for refence and ran my first half at 42.)
Yeah I need to sign up for something to have motivation to keep going. Boston winter has made me take so much time off. I’m ready for spring
I don't know how people with kids do long distances. I run 4-5 miles in the morning and then do crossfit after work. Then I have to fit in time for pushups and situps. I feel like I have no spare time. I couldn't imagine running more than 10 miles in a day.
To be honest, long runs are only once a week for me, but even those are tougher to fit in between this year's crazy weather and my son's baseball season starting.
I'm pretty much 25 miles a week with most of it on the treadmill right now. I'll do more outside when sun comes out and I can get my pale ass some color. Pretty much split evenly between swimming/biking/running, every time I think I'm a runner I end up hurting myself.
Did the Capital City Half Marathon here in Columbus at 1:39 flat (beat my half PR by two minutes). Aiming for 3:40 here in October for my first full.
I’m training for a sprint tri and enjoy mixing it up now. It’s definitely easier on my feet since I’ve fought PF and tendinitis in my right foot. Gonna shut it down after the sprint tri and let this foot heal up, gonna attempt to train for a marathon in 2019.
Running with someone makes it so much easier to slow down and focus on form and breathing. I need to find a solid group to get runs in with. I have no patience when it's just myself.
wait, holy shit, did both GamecockInCbus and Walt Disney run a half yesterday in 1:39 flat? lol ok maybe that's why I was confused congrats both on the races but yeah I think Walt Disney has run a full before and he's who I was thinking of disregard
yeah I died hard around mile 9 was hoping to get under 1:35 but its also a pretty hilly course for a half, 600ish feet of elevation I only ran about 30ish miles a week. I need to up that next time
Welp fella’s a broke down and joined Team Hoka today. After a quick 2 mile jog to see how they feel I’ve got to say I’m impressed. They maybe the ugliest things I’ve ever put my feet in but they feel good.
