Here to recommend the Garmin Fenix 3. Love it. Has a 2 week battery life with minimal GPS use. Been using it in the pool. Since the 5 is out can probably find it "cheapish"
Busy this weekend so moving my long run on Saturday up to tomorrow. Finishing up week 4 of my marathon training with a 12-miler. Should be decent weather, looking forward to it.
14 miler on Saturday. Friday is supposed to be a rest day but I'm going to want to run a 5 miler tomorrow morning. I should just rest.
One last important recommendation for the Apple Watch 3. Went on my run and about 15 min before my youngest gets out I get a call that no one can pick her up. I had time to change my course still get my miles in and pick her up. While that might not help in running having that piece of mind is worth it to me. Yes I know I can take my phone but they are so big it’s cumbersome to take with you.
1 day with apple watch and love it. Need to quit using it in the car though, 1 outside @ 7:50 with a heartrate way too high by the end of it then 3 on treadmill later. Also played a hour of tennis and says I only burned like 100 active calories, was all Got like 16 or 17 days till I do the 1.5 swim/6 run. Gonna chill on weights till I get myself in better running shape.
I know there’s a huge discrepancy between calories burned on my MapMyRun vs my wife’s Apple Watch when I’ve used hers.
I’m not a very good runner like most of you guys. But I just ran 10 miles for the first time in my life and actually felt good doing it.
My Apple Watch generation 1 is about to die. An old crack in the glass has now fallen out. It's a sliver on the edge about the thickness of a toothpick, but now the rest of the glass face is trying to lift up. And there was a deal like two months ago or so for Verizon customers to get an Apple Watch 3 for like 70 bucks, "but mine is working totally fine, why would I do that?"

Anyone used Altra running shoes? I apparently get half off for being a PT so I was looking into getting a pair
I’ve reached the end of the road with my Altra Instinct 4. I bought them at the end of January, trained for a 1/2 marathon in them, and still use them. I've conservatively done over 400 miles in them. They are zero-drop, so they took some getting used to. Would buy again even though I don't like the boxy look they have.
watchOS 5 will be released in September and will have improvements in the fitness app. watchOS 5 delivers high-performance features for running enthusiasts, including a new cadence (steps per minute) metric for indoor and outdoor runs and walks, as well as a new pace alarm for outdoor runs that alerts users when they are behind or ahead of their designated target pace. A brand new metric — rolling mile pace — is introduced as an additional option for runners to see their pace for the immediately preceding mile in addition to their average pace or current pace.
The Apple Watch is awesome, but PSA if it already hasn’t been discussed - get AppleCare+ or a screen cover, those screens are made of celophane. My wife has cracked two in six months. Apple won’t cover it unless you have AppleCare. Without it, it’s $260 (with tax) to fix.
1 in 7:31 in 88 with 60% humidity, little break then 2 others a minute slower. Some progress and got ice cream after Decided(for now) that after my race in 2 weeks, main goal is a 6 minute mile.
Had my "dress rehearsal" run for Chicago. 20 miler, first ten at an easy pace and last ten at 6:50 per mile was the goal, I think I hit, im too stupid to do the math, but my splits were: 6:50 6:42 6:51 6:50 6:53 6:56 6:47 6:57 7:01 6:31 All the miles above 6:50 were net uphill gains, so that makes me feel better since Chicago is supposed to be really flat. Overall I think im in good enough shape to go sub 3, but you never know until race day.
Did a little over 6 at the beach in about an hour. Not blazing fast or anything but it felt good. One of the best things in life is when you hit your stride and you’re just running and feel like nothing can touch you. Your legs are turning your breath is perfect and your just lost in your thoughts/music your self. I like this thread.
Just checked and there is. Which is awesome, because most marathons only go 3:05. Staying in that group will really help I think.
I already qualified last fall with a 3:03:53 time but that probably wont get me in, sub 3 or even 3:01 and im pretty much a lock.
Yup. Mine is broken and now I am looking at the AW3. For anyone that has the cellular version, what are you typically spending a month to add it to your cell plan? I have Verizon fwiw.
That I can handle, that's awesome. Do you think that 3 months free deal is via purchasing it from Verizon, or I can bring any ol' Apple Watch 3?
Mine was through A&TT so I don’t know about Verizon. But my was because I purchased it through att it’s been awhile but I think they also had 3 free months (didn’t charge the price of the watch) obviously if you buy the watch elsewhere that won’t apply to you. I think that’s ($10) the standard amount except for T-Mobile which IIRC was 5 a month to add a device.
7:17 mile a few hours ago in 90+, gonna be at a 4 minute mile in no time . Best feeling is making progress. Lifting was all I cared about for a while and was stalling even though I was going 5x a week and had me incredibly frustrated. Swimming is really good right now and improving daily on running so has me in a great mood.
Hey guys I am running a half marathon in late October. I am trying to raise money for St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. I hope you guys find it in your heats to donate a few bucks. None of the money goes to me. http://fundraising.stjude.org/site/TR/Heroes/Heroes?px=4942214&pg=personal&fr_id=87329
I love mine. Have a street pair and a trail pair. They're great if you have wide feet. Pretty cushy too.
Since you’re into the swimming do you tag your other hand when you’re swimming and do you keep your elbows at 90 degrees in the catch portion of the swim? I try to keep my elbows up during the catch but tagging the other hand is something I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do. I hate to fuck with my stroke a whole lot because I’m a pretty good natural swimmer right now.
Didn't know that people did that and don't know the point of it. Pull while other arm is going forward. Try to have my shoulder hit my ear/cheek area going forward to get a good glide and keeping a consistent(not hard) kick. Keeping body in a line is big too, see so many people with choppy strokes and legs kicking out of the water; doing so much work and going nowhere.
My coach has me "double" once a week where I run 8 in the morning then 4-6 at night. That second run is so fucking hard, and im even going at like a 9 minute plus pace. I hate it so much.
Lol Kipruto won the 3000m steeplechase in the Diamond League final after losing a shoe in the first 500m. Nowhere else to really post it but sheesh.
Got 17 miles on the schedule for tomorrow morning. Not really looking forward to it, but it will serve as a great excuse for me to just devour ALL THE FOOD afterward while watching games.
I did 5 today in a heat index over 100, slow as fuck and pretty sure I was hallucinating by the end of it.
First month hitting 80 miles since April. It’s nice to be back to adequate mileage to feel comfortable a November marathon is possible.
Ran 24 days in August for 162 miles. Best month of the year so far. Need to keep it up... ~190 on the schedule for Sept
How much do you twinks weigh? I'm quite happy fitting into 30" pants comfortably but just too heavy to be good at long distance. I'd have 92 injuries if I tried to run 190 miles in a month.
I’m 5’9, 162. I ran 262 this month but I’ve been gradually working up to that for 2 years. You just gotta build up gradually.
Did 12 tonight, went well. Did so with a water backpack for the first time. Figured it'd be good to have for the runs as I get closer to 26.2. Took a bit to get used to but ended up being ok.
