If you actually have a stress fracture you are not running that Marathon. Or if you do its gonna make it a lot worse and you will regret doing it.
A much cooler morning today than usual. 75! Gave me a boost to my interval times today. Mile warmup, then 1600 @ 8:26, 2x800 @ 8:06, 4x400 @ 7:06, mile cooldown. Feeling fast.
NEW SHOES Karhu Ortix Saucony Kinvara 9 25 miles in the Karhu's this week. Liking them. Kinvara's arrived today. CAN'T WAIT.
I was going for 5 miles today when at 3.8 my left hip starts to bark, then my knee starts to hurt, and then my left leg pretty much goes numb. Not great, Bob.
Amazing how much heat and humidity affect running. I’m usually right around 60 mins for my 10k training. Last Sunday it was low 60’s and rain, I ran it at 55 mins. Today it’s 60’s but the humidity and dew point are really high, 58 mins and had to stop and walk towards the end.
6 easy miles this afternoon because this was the only time I could fit it in 90F, heat index 101. Wasn't too bad. Little bit of a breeze.
14 miles in a shade under two hours on Saturday, felt good man. Longest run I've ever done. Up to 15 on Saturday. Full is now 2.5 months away. Really like where I'm at mentally, even more so than where I'm at physically right now.
Nice! Mental barriers are great to breakthrough in running. I've done three 14 miler's in the past month, 1:58, 1:56, and 2:01. Long run pace is supposed to start around 8:45 then drop to 8:00 for the last few miles. Sticking to that fairly well but I don't go too crazy with pace adherence, lot of the time just go by feel. Kicking it up to 16 this Saturday. Sounds like we're on similar plans.
20 miles this morning at 2:45. Went off too hot and was struggling to keep the last few miles under 10 minutes.
10 today. First double digit run since the half in May. Listened to ND Wake instead of the usual music and I really think it slowed my pace, but in my mind it was one of the more relaxing and quick-passing long runs I've ever had.
Must not have been a stress fracture, but it was definitely something painful. I decided to rest it almost 2 weeks and went on an intermediate (11ish) mile run today with no issues. Also got new shoes just to be safe (and it was time anyway), so I’m sure those helped today too. Only missed one long run in my training plan, so I should be good for the race.
Strongly considering doing this interesting ultra: http://humanpotentialrunning.com/races/tommyknocker-ultras/ It's literally in my back yard about 15 minutes from my house. General info: 12-hour "race" with various trail loops with differing degrees of difficulty, length, elevation gain, etc. The course your run is determined by chance with ping pong balls you draw after you complete a loop. The balls are color coded, which correspond to one of the loops. So whatever you pick, you have to go run that loop. You just continue on for 12 hours straight to see how much you can do. Now I've been a casual runner for over a decade. When really focusing on running I'm doing maybe 25 miles per week. Nothing crazy since I'm usually mixing in gym time or hiking or skiing with my spare time. I've done a few 1/2 marathons and some 10k trail races. I've never had the itch for a normal marathon before. But I do a lot of hiking in the summers here in Colorado (and throughout the year). This summer I ramped up my hikes and started turning some of them into hybrid hikes/runs. I had a realization that I should probably try and step my game up after I did a 22 mile hike in about 5 hours because I probably ran close to 2/3 of it. So it's got me thinking of going big. I don't know if I'm crazy thinking of opting for this or not since I've never done a regular marathon before, but the thought of a marathon on paved streets just sounds way too boring. This 12-hour would be all trail. Cliffs: am I dumb?
Fucking wild you have to had run a 3:00:08 to get in. Really hoping I get sub 3 next week in Chicago. Coach says im ready, but im nervous.
Have a buddy trying to qualify for the Boston today actually. He told me you have run at a 7:37 pace I believe.
50 It’s his last try at it, he qualified once before but it was the year after the bombing and the times were crazy low he said.
Signed up for a half on Thanksgiving Day. Will be my first race since 2016. Have to get myself into shape quick.
Finished with 180. Happy with that. Pretty close to the plan. 8 weeks in a row with 5+ days running per week, and the past 4 were 40+ mile weeks. This consistency better pay off!
Old but came across this on youtube and got pretty inspired, gonna add a 7 minute beer mile to my list of goals
