Sorry bro Marathons are tough You can have the best training then just feel like crap on race day Seemed to be a not ideal weather day for Chicago
The weather was shit, I also think I tapered too much and didn’t do enough long runs at tempo. I was on pace for sub 3 halfway through, then hit a wall and gave up mentally.
Thought this was pretty entertaining. I have a hard time understanding how most of these people can complete a marathon though. https://www.runnersworld.com/news/a23634309/runners-attempt-world-record-marathon-pace/
For anyone as crazy as me 4x4x48 Challenge https://www.fusionsportsusa.com/pages/fusion-4x4x48-challenge 4 mile run, every 4 hours for 48 hours. All money goes to support the troops with Beyond Brave http://www.beyondbrave.org/
Hahah I just had a monumental brain fart. I was like, sure, I could run 16 miles across two days... Oh wait, that's 48hrs/4hrs=12runsx4miles=48miles. Oh nevermind.
Been a while since I posted. I’m just now to the point from my back surgery back in February that I feel like I can seriously start exercising again. I’ve done light workouts every now and then but haven’t really pushed it. This morning I did half a mile on the elliptical and ran up and down four flights of stairs at my apartment. It felt so good to do it but at the same time so frustrating at how I have no muscle/cardio. I’m pretty much starting from square one. Goal is to get back in shape to do some OCR races at the beginning of 2019.
I decided to run as hard as I could for the last mile of my 12 miler on Saturday. It ended up being a 6:54 mile. Fuck every little thing about doing that for a full marathon.
Marathon is now a little less than seven weeks out. Did a half on Saturday. Weather was in the 40s so that was nice. Wind kinda sucked at times but oh well. Then I turned around for the final two miles and ran into brutal wind + snow/sleet/hail. Not fun at all. 1:46 time, so was pleased. Goal for marathon is gonna be 3:40 I think.
I don't know what it is but I can never get this 8 mile hills run done before having to cut it short to go to work. Woke up at fucking 3:45, but it's so flat around my house that I have to drive a good 15 minutes up to the hills around the mountains. I took it too hard last week and did 7m at just over 9 minutes per and I was hobbled all the rest of the week, so I took it slow today for 7miles @ 10:30-11 per. Hopefully I'll be good.
Taking this month off of running. Gonna lose ten pounds, lift and hit the pool. I ran Chicago at 164 and for 5'9 thats relatively heavy ( not by normal standards, but runners) and I need to get down to at least 155.
Damn I'm at about that. 5'10 and regularly float between 160-165 lbs. I know getting into the mid 150's would be great and I'd just feel leaner. I can't seem to find the discipline to get there. Simply "marathon training" doesn't let me lose any more weight. Anyway good luck.
I'm surprised at my lack of weight loss. When I was running 25-30 miles a week in April I couldn't keep weight on. Now, at 35-40 I'm just flat.
My body is telling me I needed 3 plates of Italian food today and 4 beers tonight, and I'm listening to it damnit.
I weigh 190-195. I have to starve myself to get to 180-85. I’ve realized that about 2 for a half and somewhere in the 4-430 for a full is the best I’ll get. Luckily cycling has cut down my ankle and knee issues.?
Whatever this was/is flared up again yesterday. 10 days until the race is not great timing. Gonna rest it and try to get a few short runs in next week before the race.
Don’t think so based on location. It’s pain and soreness at location 6 here: It’s not a bunion, but it doesn’t really act like a stress fracture either.
Marathon is six weeks from tomorrow. Running 18 tomorrow, once again the longest I've ever run in one setting. Weather should be pretty great for it. Day before runs like this is always interesting for me because I'm basically just mentally preparing myself to be able to do it.
I ran my first half marathon this morning. I can't even imagine running another 13 miles. I don't know how you marathoners do it.
I'm not a good runner so it was 2:03:40 but i'm just glad to have made it the whole way without stopping.
Been quiet here, but just did a 12 miler leading up to a Nov. 11 half raising benefitting Honor Flight. Pace today was 10:10. From where I'd let myself get shape-wise, that's a pretty good bounce back.
I love em. They are different, so you cant just get them and run 10 plus miles your first go, but they are great.
3:43:42 for my first marathon today. Tried to run with the 3:30 pace group, made it halfway, then did the second half in about two hours.
I'm on cloud 9 after yesterdays run. I was running a 10 mile race and was hoping I could keep an 8:15 pace the whole way. I ran a 7:46 pace and crushed every PR I had!
Mileage varies, but I track my mileage with Strava. I'm a stockier guy, so mine tend to wear out by 300 miles. Somewhere post 250 I start looking ti replace them.
In addition to repoocs, your tread starts showing wear and tear. Also, get rid of them when they start to smell.
I think I'm well overdue then. I got mine in late March and I've covered 492 miles in them, after doing the math.
I keep track on the box. After every run I put how much I’ve run. Shoes are usually good for 300-500 miles. You can also check the soles and see how much thread they still have.
Marine Corps Marathon is in the books. My first and likely my only marathon. Was slower than I was hoping for, but at least I finished.
