DC news, events, and stuff we can discuss and maybe learn from. Maybe.
Just let me do this, guys.
We can start with this.
So, they arrested this motherfucker.
I am both anti-violence on Metro and also anti-assholes on Metro, so I'm a bit conflicted. Hopefully he receives a reasonable sentence while the video still serves as deterrent for the kids who often act like shitheads. If it scares tourists off Metro, even better!
It's as hot as Africa this week
Hotter for the most part.
FTA safety inspection report on WMATA came out today, and, as expected, it didn't go well for Metro
Of course they use their cell phones on duty.
I thought Puerto Rico was the 51st state.
No that's Guam.
Those are both colonies, iyam. Colonies 1, and 3, iirc. Believe Canada is colony #2.
what about Hawaii
Sure it's not American Samoa?
The British Virgin Islands
This Metro stabbing case is puzzling.
I mean, that's messed up.
Sounds like he stopped taking his crazy pills last week or something. 18 years old and I hope he burns in hell.
Miss DC so much.
If I didn't have kids I'd still be there.
So many terrible human beings in this city. You see a woman lying on the ground in the middle of the day, not moving, and you didn't bother to see if she was alright? ... Yet managed to knock off a 4 paragraph email to a fucking blog.
Damn. I actually walked by that lady but at the time there were two cops and a handful of firefighters surrounding her.
I love how the person didn't stop b/c he/she was afraid of "gang related issues," while pointing out that she was a normal woman in work clothes.
At 8 am.
I hate popvillers.
Popville commenters are the worst of the worst.
They really are.
Neighborhood blogs like that have their place and I frequent them at times... but the comments.
I plan on being back soon. Maybe Halloween or the week before. Thanks
I love the prince himself (and JD from JDland -they're really providing fantastic services for free) but there's at least one user-submitted post per day that goes horrifically wrong for OP, and the commentariat is brutal.
here's a fight on top of a firetruck.
Visiting noma/mt vernon again?
My friend was living on l Street northwest but she just moved to somewhere that I don't remember the name of
I feel like I was every main bar district though. We did a lot of hopping. Will probably do the same
Good to see this thread has dodged all the summer stabbings, shootings, and murders.
So, the Pope is coming. Everything is going to be a mess downtown.
115 so far this year (as of Monday). Up 50% from last year. http://dcist.com/2015/09/four_weekend_homicides_2015.php
Cops arrested and charged this prick though.
Shitty Maryland driver
So thankful to be out of town for business this week.
Summer is a scary time in the projects. Can't wait until it's cold out again and the loitering slows down considerably.
Did you get a "community outreach post" in your neighborhood like we did? (basically a cop sitting there under a tent playing on his/her iphone all day.)
did not know this thread existed.
what is everyone's hood? also go to restaurants and bars?
Petworth checking in.
Bars: I like the dives. Wonderland. Looking Glass. DC Reynolds. DC9. Velvet Lounge. Little Miss Whiskies. Petworth Citizen. Rock and Roll Hotel sometimes.
Restaurants: the only restaurant that I can say is lights out and affordable every time I go is Toki Underground. Looking for other suggestions.
I live on U Street right now and we have luckily avoided most of the violence this summer. Come next week I will be a home owner in Eckington though so we'll see how that shakes out.
Do you live near the 6th and P post? That's the only one I've come across.
4 blocks west of there.
I live off of 7th and Q. Right in the middle of like three of the shootings.
Crazy to me how expensive that area got with so many projects still active. It's like a couple apartment buildings went up, a few restaurants opened, and everyone assumed the gentrification was complete. Uhh, not yet.
Here's an article on how much of a complete mess the National Mall is.
Does America Really Need The National Mall?
anyone eaten at Bad Saint yet?
They can start raising funds by charging all the goddamn softball and kickball for-profit leagues that make large swaths of the Mall unusable for anyone else every day.
No, I think my gf and I were going to go there last week or something but it was pouring outside and we ended up at our usual dive across the street.
Flying up to see some buddies for Halloween but I'm coming up Thursday. I'll have two days of bumming around the city by myself while they're working. I've only ever driven through DC before. Suggestions?
check out National Mall one day: Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Natural History Museum, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Capitol building, White House. You will sleep well that night from all the walking.
suggestion two: Eat at Toki Underground.
