So, this is going on around here. http://heavy.com/news/2016/05/glady...murder-suspect-wife-federal-protective-photo/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/loca...1e6-81b4-581a5c4c42df_story.html?tid=pm_pop_b
Staying on the transportation theme that this thread has sort of meandered into... this dude (presumably) got popped for taking kickbacks and/or skimming funds. Was a program manager for the streetcar and other projects in wards 5 & 6. https://www.washingtonpost.com/loca...856816-1ba7-11e6-b6e0-c53b7ef63b45_story.html

About a 33% chance I'll be moving to Springfield this year. I've been idly looking at houses to rent around there, mostly in Burke but I'm totally unfamiliar with the area. I'm in my 30s, one kid (who doesn't live with me all the time) looking at <2000/m. Thoughts?
Might want to look up towards Vienna/Falls Church as well - you'd be reverse commuting, so travel times shouldn't be bad that direction
I have field work this afternoon; I'd like to be able to leave my car parked for the rest of the week after today and just bike / metro until monday.
Going to be tough finding a house to rent for under $2K / mo in Vienna / FC. As a reference, my brother is renting out his house (albeit a 3 br with a finished basement and in Arlington) for around $3,700 / mo.
A 1b/1ba in the fairfax area is going to run you about 1500$ a month. Depends what you absolutely want/need
to be fair, i wonder how bad this one is going to be. there's almost no buzz, IMO, about this like there was for Obama's.
Quick Zillowing popped up a few townhomes at that price, and Dunn Loring/Mosaic District is one of the better locations around the Beltway. SFH will be tough so Burke or south and east of the Springfield Town Center are probably the best bets if that's what he wants.
You don't live within blocks of the Convention Center, iirc. http://wtop.com/inauguration/2017/01/navigating-around-inauguration-road-closures/
Luckily, I'm on H St so I can avoid most of the mess. Our office is in DuPont and giving us the work from home option on Thursday and we're closed Friday.
Yeah that's what I was finding too. Zillow/Homedotcom was pretty much showing Burke as the closest thing in my price range - the rest was down near Quantico (eww Marines) or on the other side of the river (fuck that). I just didn't know if Burke was a decent area.
Yeah, Burke is nice - not exciting, but a good residential community. Quantico/Triangle is a shithole to be avoided at all costs.
Would go townhouse with your price range. West Springfield/Burke- Nice areas, some decent restaurants, close enough to things, and traffic isn't bad Kingstowne- Somewhat recently developed area, nice. A lot of restaurants/bars/etc, traffic can get annoying at times but isn't awful North Springfield- Where springfield towne center is located, not nearly as nice as the areas above. All the highways intersect here so traffic can be a bitch at times. Franconia/Alexandria- Hit or miss, not a big fan of the area. Not a ton to do and too much traffic.
Staying with my cousin for the weekend in Arlington, he lives right north of Barcroft park. Are there decent restaurants/bars to watch the games at within walking distance? I know DC ok but haven't really spent time in Arlington.
Yeah plenty of good food and drink in Arlington, just get off at Clarendon metro stop and walk in any direction.
He's like as far away as you can possibly get from the metro while still being in Arlington Shirlington's the only thing in walking distance, but it's kinda crap now. I'd suck it up, take an uber to Crystal City, grab food somewhere, and head to Crystal City Sports Pub to watch the game
Shirlington has Carlyle which is pretty good food, most the great american restaurants(big area chain) only have a TV or 2 though at the bar. Been to capital city brewing a few times and remember it being ok but it's been a long time, no idea about other bars in Shirlington.

Nice. I was shut out. Had 9:30 Club presale access on Thursday then the cluster that was Friday. Should be an amazing show.

Not I - I can't motivate my girlfriend to go. My boss goes quite a bit mid week and swears by it though.
I decided to go into the office today b/c I'm way behind on some things... and a small branch (more of a large twig) fell on my windshield as I was driving on Military. Scared the piss out of me.
