whether wait staff should be get raises to the minimum wage ($15/hr) by 2026.

-edit: it's probably a little more complicated than that, hence not making a decision on how to vote yet.

Took a week off in between jobs and showed up at 3:45 to stand in line for Rose’s Luxury. There was one other person there’s so now I’m just getting drunk in some random Eastern Market bar

Dunno, figured I wouldn’t chance it. It appears they are not.

Update: Line has formed but probably not before 4:30 (they open at 5)

the line there has certainly chilled out at least on weekdays. Also, it's Labor Day weekend so that could have affected it too. still good food but quality may have dropped down a notch compared to 2 years ago

Rose’s Luxury is so good. Probably the best dinner I’ve had since I moved to DC. The lychee salad they have is insane.

There was more of a line than Rose’s. I got there around 4:30 for a 5:30 opening and there was already a decent line. I could probably have waited until 5 or so, the line didn’t start growing until then. They’re not kidding about only seating 24 though. Most fast casual restaurants have more seating.

The food was great but overall I liked Rose’s luxury better. For as hyped as the place was, it didn’t live up. Would also recommend not going in the summer. The space is so small and the kitchen exposed that it was burning hot in there. That + summer + spicy food wasn’t comfortable. It did feel very authentic, and the service was great.

Overall a good meal but not otherworldly. Prefer Rose’s or The Dabney.

I abhor political ads, but these for the House race in Virginia are hilarious. The Democrats are all, “[She votes all the time for Trump stuff.] Comstock? More like Trumpstock.” And the Republicans: “[She raised taxes big time.] We got Wexton’d.” (In case you’ve somehow missed them, these are verbatim.) It’s like they hired folks from Reddit to come up with these things.

I will be in town with the wife for a few days early next week. This is the food/drink list we have been working from. Is there anything you would remove or add? Not looking for the fanciest, most expensive meal, just good solid local food spots. Thanks <3

All-Purpose has the best pizza in the city in my opinion. The Buona is incredible. Maketto and/or Peregrine Espresso if you're a coffee fan. Union Market has a lot of cool pop-up/food stands inside with great places to eat. Are you down for Ethiopian?

Drinks at Columbia room dinner at the Dabney for a night if you're feeling fancy. A Rake's Progress at the LINE is pretty chill

If you're going to right proper swing by all souls before or after for a cocktail.

Georgetown cupcake can be skipped unless you're really into the cupcake scene.

You guys should put "Washington" in the thread title. Would be a lot easier to search for. :twocents:

I'm coming next week and couldn't find a relevant thread. Thought I'd have to rely on tripadvisor to tell me what to do and where to eat.

by the way, on a crisp autumnal day, Great Falls (Maryland side is better, imo) is a fantastic way to kill a half day.

Takes some time to get there, and not easy to get to if you don't have a car (unless you want to bike 2 hours each way), but it's really quite a nice change from the usual monument / museum tourism downtown.

I like The Sovereign for beer.
Fiola Mare always gets good reviews, is on the water, but a bit on the pricier side.
Haven't been to the new Jose Andres America Eats Tavern
Farmer's Fisher's Bakers is probably the best combination of price/quality/location.

havent eaten in Georgetown in forever. I think last time I ate there was Paolo's and it was decent. not super pricey either. edit: Looks like it closed. I've never eaten at any of allothersnsused recs but the reviews seem pretty good.
