Sweet axe. Oldest Lau brother had a Parker similar to that one for a while. Parkers are excellent guitars
Saw them in Charlotte last night. Awesome show and awesome to see them, but a bit disappointed in the setlist.
Dead & bro, bro. I am. This is...its...music (!?!)...and I like the grateful dead. I think they learned the first 15 seconds of passenger and were like "fuck it, we're good".
Dead & co has its flaws, but it produces some cool moments too. Overall the tempo's never seem to make sense, and mayer's style is a bit too similar (and his voice...well, yeah). But I'm stoked to go hang out in the lawn in a month and get weird for a few hours. I think it could actually be pretty good if they just played some of the stuff a bit faster, and turned Oteil up.
I take that back, I wish John would stop being a goober on some of the singing and dressing like a gay train conductor
Yeah, it kinda works on some of the songs - but it's impossible to replace Jerry / his voice is so distinct. Ultimately it doesn't annoy me that much. It is what it is.
I don't think the intent was ever to replace Jerry so it works for me My beef is just every once a while and it seems like its at the end of a verse he'll flub a lyric almost on purpose
The Jerry reference was just on how much it stands out. If I appreciate anything about mayer's voice, it's that it's perfectly forgettable. Just sometimes the contrast of what he's singing and his voice is overly apparent. I liked that terrapin, fwiw.
I like mayer's playing on some of this, but dear god stop showing his face. Give me dancing bears, swaying Donna, swaying axl rose, a close up of Mickey...whatever. Anything but mayer's face.
Just listened to the 2nd set w/ Ornette Coleman. This is a new-to-me show...pretty cool shit, especially for 93. https://archive.org/details/gd93-02-23.sbd.hall.1611.sbeok.shnf
And this is fucking monster Scarlet > Fire https://archive.org/details/gd78-04-24.sbd.mattman.20605.sbeok.shnf
6/23/74 is from the gods. The aud recording is great, but I prefer the and/mtx because you get more Phil. I've listened to parts of at least 6 shows today from 73-95. But it hasn't been exhausting...its been fucking uplifting.
RIP Rob Wasserman. Longtime Bobby Weir collaborator, was also a noted session bassist... was his sound on Lou Reed's seminal New York album for instance.
Dead and co the next two nights at Folsom Field. Would've been cool to see them at Red Rocks, but Boulder will be fun too.
Dead & Co tomorrow night. Pretty stoked after checking out some of the recent streams. Dark Star also announced their fall tour, including Ann Arbor in sept. I've never seen them, but will definitely hit that up. (Chris Robinson brotherhood the night before too).
Man, they're sounding really fucking good of late. It's been a pretty great couple of weeks on the couch tour. Phish also killing it.
I had my 11 year old ask me why Casey Jones was driving that train high on cocaine. I answered by reminding her how she liked that song about the monkey and the engineer, then left it that the Dead sing a lot of songs about trains. I feel like I should have been better prepared.
CBR is much spacier than the Black Crowes and then go into rocking jams, I've really enjoyed them the last few times I've seen them.

Bob Weir is playing the Ryman during one of the nights of the phish run in Nashville this fall. Think he would come out to play a few licks with the boys?
I saw Dead & Co on Saturday at Shoreline. Fuck what a great night. I appreciated their music before going, but after seeing them live I get it. I understand why they're such a cultural icon and why people love them so much. One of the guys I went with is 60ish years old and was a dead head in his youth so he was pretty much an expert on everything. He took us to shakedown street in the parking lot before the concert and kept dropping little bits of trivia during the show. I had no idea, but Shoreline is actually designed to look like the skull logo from above. Was also proud of John Mayer since most of the people I went with were all around 60 and were skeptical of Mayer's talent on guitar. I told them he was amazing and he proved me right. I really hope they announce more shows so I can see them again and would love for Bob Weir's vision to come true:
Mayer wrote a pretty cool note/reflection on the experience (jambase and relix both posted it). Picked up a lot of respect for him. He can really play, and his mentality towards the whole thing was really great. This tour brought a lot of life to those tunes.
