I think JRAD is more fun than Dead & Co., but I’d be lying if I denied that these past few nights’ set list look pretty fun.
I'm packing my battery. Do people on Shakedown Street sell oil cartridges? I feel like such an old man. Back in the day, prior to moving to Texas and it's garbage music scene, I knew the Shakedown set up like the back of my hand.
If you see someone stumbling around in this hat and perhaps a balloon in tote, it's probably me. Come say what's up.
I was wondering the same, and I’m sure there are people pedaling cartridges, but I’ve never seen them. Here’s to finding them, though.
$100. Usually get them mailed to me for $75 but not sure what they retail for in California where I get them shipped from.
Jesse Jarnow's review of it is really incredible - can't wait to read it the book. https://www.wired.com/story/the-ghost-of-john-perry-barlow-lives-in-his-posthumous-memoir/
Brown Eyed Woman, Althea and Morning Dew were the highlights for me. That West LA Fadeway was nice and funky. I don’t remember which song but when John and Jeff were going back and forth
Well this sounds amazing. http://www.dead.net/store/music/new...e-recordings-boxed-set?intcmp=home/bigbanner1
Just talking with some of my buddies this morning and Loose Lucy came up. I didn't know they shelved that song for 15 years. Had to go back and listen to that show to hear the crowd go nuts. It didn't disappoint. Look at that setlist and with Brent on the keys!
Spring '90 is so awesome. That box-set they put out a few years back is a must have IMO, I spin it all the time.
Without a doubt the last great tour. Vince makes a lot of post-Brent Dead virtually unlistenable to me - he’s just that bad. Shame Hornsby didn’t take the gig full time.
6.21.80 is one of my all time favorites. If you’ve never heard it, or it’s been a while, do yourself a favor. And if you don’t have the time, at least listen to the Sugaree opener. Can’t imagine how fucking sick seeing the boys at a high school gym in Alaska would’ve been.
summer 90 was all around great too - but maybe I'm biased. I remember waking up (beautiful summer morning, iirc) and hearing the news of Brent's death; I had just seen them for the first time just a few weeks prior. I guess I was too young and stupid to perceive just how much this would affect the band and their sound -- but as it turned out they were just never the same after he died. Anyway, yeah, Vince was typically pretty bad, but it was Jerry's heavy drug use and diabetes that made so many of those shows unlistenable (92, 94, 95 = all dreadful). Going to shows was sometimes a bummer too -- he just looked so bad up there.
Friends said that there was some interview with Shapiro saying that Lockn would be the last shows for Dead Co this year. He would know, but he could also just be meaning before the fall/winter is announced. Any ideas?
Tomorrow is the 29 year anniversary of this little gem that came up on my playlist yesterday. Brent just leaving it all out on the field.
