    Insanity is a brand under beach body, there’s a lot of different workout tapes. Most are geared at women but some aren’t. Insanity is a ton of jumping in place, the workouts we are doing are more abs and weights. They are very challenging, I’m sure you can preview them on YouTube.

    I paddle prolly 5-6x per week, sometimes several times a day. Right now I’m rocking a super wide 11’ cruiser, but it can catch a lip and straight-line it. I’d like to get a 9-footer in the near future so I can start getting a feel for turns.

    Found a really good surf spot (I.e., not too huge, not too reefy) close to the house recently, so I’m hoping to start using the surfboards more.

    That’s awesome. Not sure if you’ll live there forever or not but please take advantage of it. Get a blown up picture of you surfing a wave to hang up in the nursing home one day.

    Anyone got a plan during quarantine? Ive been eating super healthy, just worried about booze.

    My yoga studio is all online, so I’ve actually maintained 3-4 days/week of yoga. Today I bought some resistance bands and kettle bell. Going to try and do yoga and/or use those every day.

    Also heading into the mountains this weekend for sone hiking. Usually my only reason for avoiding a weekend hike was to party/concert/etc, but wont have that problem for a while.

    I’m screwed. Was going to the gym 5x a week and eating healthy.

    In the last five days I’ve eaten like shit and had wine every night. Decided I’ll do 100 push-ups, 100 lunges, and 200 crunches a day. Not sure if that’ll even do anything.

    I have some resistance bands that I could use to supplement arm and shoulder workouts. Who knows.

    I got lucky and just happened to have converted half the garage to a gym about 2 weeks ago before I saw this coming. Looking forward to it every day right now just to break up boredom

    Can always make those more difficult. Instead of 100 lunges, do like 5 sets of 20 jump lunges. Do some clap pushups or whatever other harder variations are out there. Do planks/side planks/bird dogs for abs as well as crunches. Some mountain climbers. Don't need equipment to stay in shape. Watch some youtube videos and find things you want to do.

    Have a decent amount of home equipment: bench, dumbells, kettles, bands, heavy bag, jump rope, foam rollers. Going to go on a “CV cut” and do some real high intensity 35-45 sessions. Will mix in 1 day of yoga. Will intermittent fast too. Hope to drop 10lbs.

    will jump right back on my bulk and heavy lifting when this is over

    Gym closed today. It had a saltwater pool, and since December 1 I had only missed a total of 6 days swimming.

    Broke out the perfect push-up and pull up bar, went on a run. Not as satisfying and that pool really helped rinse the work stress off in the colder months when getting down to the ocean is a chore. Going to try and keep at it though.

    Luckily all of my exercising is at home. You can certainly get enough exercise to be healthy at home

    Yeah, I already added in planks and mountain climbers. Made a couple laps up and down the big cliff to the beach this evening.

    The issue will be food. I love snacking and being home all day allows unlimited snacking.

    Do some grip work and wrist curls too. Improper grip leads to medial tendon inflammation in the elbow, which is a bitch to get rid of once you have it

    Hammer grip helps too, not straight bar

    I've never fasted, but do you workout/exercise during the fast? I would be fucking insatiable if I worked out and then didn't consume any calories.

    Fucking hate it. Feel awful 10-15 mins into a workout. It is affective in weight loss/fat burning however

    Close friend and workout partner is all about it though, he is wired very differently

    did a 2.5 day fast over a weekend and into Monday to cleanse. I was a mess a day in, could not imagine a workout. I was able to take a walk and do stuff around the house but real exertion was not happening.

    I had a better experience with a short window 2-3 days where I limited food and drink to raw veggies, coffee, water and tea. I ended up making some green smoothies. I was able to hit some cardio when doing this and felt better after.

    I don't. It's recommended to do a long walk the first full day to burn through your glycogen stores quickly, but a real workout would be hell for me. I do some stretching/yoga if I'm feeling something.

    It also may be different for someone with higher fat % for fuel.

    Im kind of obsessed with fasting..the research behind how it helps longevity/ attacks damaged or sick cells / potentially slows the aging process is pretty cool

    I’ve been really diligent about working out the last 6 months, and rarely drink during the week. Where I’m getting frustrated is that despite noticeable muscle gains, I’m having a hard time losing the belly fat. Some of it appears to be just extra skin from losing weight, but it’s still mostly fat. The fasting stuff is intriguing. I just wonder if after dong fasting for a period of time and cutting some of that fat, do you gain it back if you go back to regular (albeit healthy) eating? I’m looking at the long term here and I’m not going to be doing intermittent fasting for the the rest of my life. I don’t want it to be like people who do fad diets like Atkins, lose a bunch of weight, then balloon up even bigger than before when they just eat normally.

    Outside of very, very small niche examples, fat loss comes down to calories in vs calories out. Guys hold more fat in their stomachs so it’s gonna take a while to lose that unfortunately. Just takes consistent effort in the kitchen and gym

    FWIW

    I purchased home gym equipment at the start of the pandemic

    squat rack and all that so I can do all the compound movements

    have been pretty diligent with 5x5 over last 6 months and my mid section is smaller while my weight is actually up

    I do no cardio but have now recently starting adding in some HIIT as we approach summer

    i have always struggle with mid section and love handles too

    There’s some anecdotal evidence that suggest obese people that fast have less excess skin. I haven’t seen any study that proves this or suggestions for why, outside of vague guesses, but some people have experienced this

    Honestly better than I have been in years. Maybe ever I don't know. I've always been a happy glass always half full person. But a few years of a marriage going to shit masked with excessive alcohol kept things meh. Divorce was requested a year ago, she left, and I hit a little depression masked around lots of vodka.

    Now it's over. I've been working on myself for a couple of months with diet and exercise. It's still dry January in my house. Im the slimmest I've been in 10 years at 5'9 224 this morning. So I came here to learn how to take it up a notch. Got a ways to go.

    I've started making Kale smoothies in the last few weeks and they're a game changer since I don't get nearly enough greens straight up. I just get one of those big bags and stick it in the freezer. If anyone's interested here's my recipe:

    4-5 cups kale
    1 scoop of Berry flavored powdered greens
    1 scoop of Orange flavored electrolytes
    1 tbsp Ground Flax Seed
    1/2 tsp Ground Turmeric
    1/2 tsp Ground Ginger
    2 black peppercorns
    Pinch of Cayenne
    1 peeled Lemon
    and then I alternate an additional fruit, usually a banana or avocado

    3 cups of water plus what I estimate to be about a cup of ice gives this a nice consistency

    Makes a deliciously citrus drink with a slight kick that I start sipping around lunch time

    Good on you. As I've gotten older I've definitely realized the negative effects alcohol has on my life. I've started to implement a strict no weeknight drinking rule for myself. I was drinking way too much at the beginning of the pandemic, it was tough to separate work from home when they're both in the same place and alcohol helped.

    Need to get back into the gym. I've been cardio-only since the pandemic started, basically, and miss the feeling of a good pump.
