team 33yo is good for health Also at 6'5" 180 it's time for you to come hang in the lifting thread and work on some putting some meat on those bones
I try to avoid going into the kitchen at work the week after halloween. everyone brings in all the fucking candy they didn't give away to trick or treaters.
Anyone in here have positive experience with keto diet? Don't need to lose weight or anything but carbs/sugar seem to be affecting me negatively and don't like where my energy levels are after eating a bunch of carbs
Couple people do here and they had luck. If you don't need to lose weight or are not considering keto for any health benefits, try Whole30.
I credit my weight loss to a carb restrictive diet, but I’m not sure why you’d want to follow that plan if you weren’t looking to drop weight.
Pretty good. I want to say I lost the first 15 or so pounds pretty quickly after I started eating better and going to the gym. I want to lose about 15 more but it’s definitely gotten harder to shed the pounds. I’ve been trying to go to the gym 4-5 times per week. Diet has been okay but I’ve cheated a few times lately. Probably gonna weigh myself in a week to check the progress.
Yeah, that makes sense, but a true keto diet is (I think) ~20 net carbs or less per day. Most people start adding to that after a while, but I’ve known a couple people on it and that 20 seems to be their magic number. Big difference between that and just cutting down on bad carbs.
me too, but for me those meals usually carry large amounts of sodium or sugar. i’ll get really drowsy and thirsty afterwards.
When I play FIFA all night after dinner I'm much more likely to get absorbed in the game and not mindlessly snack when I do while watching TV #lifehack
Got back on the Keto bandwagon after a few months off. After 3 weeks, I'm right around 20lb lost. Intermittent fasting is a huge part of that too. I'm doing 18:6 ratio with a 24 hour fast once a week. I have a lot more energy and clarity throughout the day while on Keto. Plus I can make some bomb-ass food and still remain in Ketosis. I know Reddit gets shit on a lot on here, but they have tons of useful links and information. https://www.reddit.com/r/keto/wiki/keto_in_a_nutshell
It’s changed my life dude. I IF most of the day now also but i work 50+ a week run an hour a day and alternate lifting/bjj 7x a week. Keto or atleast a low carb high fat lifestyle is the only way I could be doing all this. I have more energy now than when I was a teen.
First Juijitsu competition tomorrow been cutting weight all week. Feel kinda shitty but my graph is looking good, atleast until tonight
I fucked with fasting a bit and I still do but subconsciously, which isn't how you are supposed to do it. You're supposed to be on a consistent schedule but I am not in need of that at the moment. 18:6 or 21:3, just simply the hours in the day that you can get your calories in. 18 fasting, 6 to get your calories. Or obviously 21 fasting, 3 to get your calories.
Depends on your body IMO. Some people can do it with no issue at all. I know other people who act like they are dying or turn into gigantic assholes if they don't get three meals in with snacks in between. Obviously you have to consider how you work out and plan around your activities. The more aggressive the time frame, generally, the longer between fasts. Just like anything else there are two sides of the spectrum. Some people are fucking crazy and others very conservative.
I've never done any sort of IF but I believe I've seen people say their schedule typically works out where they don't have their first meal until late morning/lunch then they'll get in all their eating through dinner, so essentially skipping breakfast and morning snacks for most people.
If you slowly work into it it gets very easy. Start off with with like 15:9 and slowly work into moving both your last meal of the day and first meal of the next day further and further apart.
Sure man. Basically means you're fasting for 18 hours and eating for 6. Which 6 really doesn't matter, preferably something that's not too close to when you sleep. I try to not eat anything 4 hours before I go to bed. I work a lot of different shifts at the Hospital, so If I worked 7AM-3PM I usually make my 6 hours from 1p to 7p. I skip Breakfast (break-fast. breaking the fast) ha ha. Then on my long fasting days (24-48) I do no food, just water and coke zero. You can also do coffee and tea.
IF isn’t hard at all. Started Crossfit about a month ago and still do it no problem. I only really eat two large meals. One at around 11 am and then my last around 6 pm. Work out at 6 am with no energy problems at all. I do it mostly cause my self control with portions is shit, so it’s easier for me to just eat two huge meals then try to be calorie conscious over several.
Monthly #Health Diary Started on 4am workouts M-F for the foreseeable future bc one guy we workout with has to be in at 6 now. Doing 20min cardio after lifting since I've got plenty of time before getting into work at 7. Gold's "Cardio Theater" is the tits. Watched 30 minutes of Dark Knight this morning. Started eating a lot lighter breakfastinstead of tacos that would end up being a ~1300cal breakfast with a 2 scoop whey shake. Cascadian Farm Organic granola cereal is pretty damn good. I like the French Vanilla Almond one. WIth almond milk and a 2-scoop shake and banana it's 786cal 104c/22f/49p Lunch is a real good chicken/rice combo: 2 boxes uncle bens long grain & wild rice. ~4-4.5lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs. pretty much just wash the thighs and toss them in a big skillet on med-low heat with a whole bottle of Baby Rays Buffalo Sauce then dice when they're cooked. pretty damn delicious and at 6 servings (a cup of rice and about 10.5-11oz chicken) it's 567cal 42c/21f/54p Pretty cheap for 6 solid meals too: Rice = $1.99x2 / Chicken = ~$8 / Rays = $2-3 and I've cooked it the last 2 monday mornings while showering and getting ready. Lunch for the week + Saturday at $2.50 a pop. #bless attempting to stick to this + ahi tuna/tilapia/salmon salad for dinner and hit around 2400cal/day during the week. No "holiday 10" from thanksgiving to new years in 2017
Fuck working out at 4 am ever again. Had to do that for awhile because I was forced to, but never again. Team come home at 6 pm and actually sleep at night. Working out after work is much more cathartic to me, like cleansing my stress and/or poor snack choices from the day and starting fresh
I will probably do it until the end of busy season. Starting tomorrow through Jan 3 we go to 7 hour days and working out at 4am gets me to work at 7 so I'm out at 3. Easy choice this time of year to actually get out of the office before it's pitch black outside. During tax season I just need it to wake up and get to work ready to grind at 7am. Once clocks go back to normal and busy season is over I'll go back to normal morning workouts and cardio afternoon in the sun
Finallly broke down and went to an ortho today for the knee pain that’s been nagging me for months. Confirmed it was IT Band Syndrome and recommended physical therapy. It hurt like hell, but still ran a new 3.1 mile PR last night at just under 23 minutes.
About a month ago I decided to give the whole wheat/gluten free thing a shot after reading Wheat Belly and realizing many of those issues sounded very familiar. I haven't fully committed quite yet as I've still been having some beers on the weekends but have drastically reduced wheat intake in all foods. The effect was almost immediate and seemingly has gotten rid of my bouts of IBS that were very frequent so it's a win in my book
If anyone wants to do a deep dive on healthier shit and likes podcasts, Joe Rogan has had a woman on 4 or 5 times named Rhonda Patrick, who is insanely smart and has tons of good info. She also has her own podcast. This ones hits on quite a few things but the interesting on IMO was sulforaphane and broccoli sprouts.
I'll piggy back on JRE and bring a very recent episode that I thought was great and related to food. He does speak to IF in this podcast.
Yea she's awesome. She's done a few eps of the Tim Ferriss show too...there are always so many words that go over my head. But she's the one who convinced me to cut back on a lot of refined sugars.
Heard about her through a friend who found her on Rogan. She actually has her own podcast (foundmyfitness) where she deep dives into shit. I did a pick and choose because like someone mentioned, I can't even pronounce some titles, but she does a really good job of breaking shit down. If any of you are interested in fasting at all, she has a really great podcast that breaks it down. I usually check her titles every few months to see if she is covering anything of interest to me. EDIT: BP sorry missed you said she has her own. I've only ever listened to her, never listened to a Rogan podcast.
Was just randomly checking out this thread, but good luck in the competition man. I did my first one back in May after just a few months on the mat, and the adrenaline dump is real. Most helpful thing was having another guy in my corner reminding me to relax and breathe while we rolled
Over the past couple years I’ve made a big effort to cut sodas and sugary drinks out of the diet. Down to about 1/week compared to 1+/day when I started, but I was getting sick and tired of the zero-carb poweraid/gatorade options. Lately (last 3 months) I’ve stopped buying juice altogether and instead just get handfuls of limes and lemons. Nice big glass of ice water with a squeeze of citrus in the morning is soooooo fucking refreshing.
