Whole 30 is not meant to be long term; it’s meant to last 30 days. The whole point behind it is to learn how your body reacts to certain foods/ingredients so you can make the necessary adjustments to your diet after the 30 days.

The best diet is not keto or paleo or vegan, it's the one you can stick to and not be miserable.

Saturday night was the first time maybe ever that I ordered a pizza for myself and only ate half of it before saving the rest for another day. Didn't go back for a late night slice at 1am. Baby steps

Use frozen fruit. I prefer to add unflavored protein powder and/or Greek yogurt. Splash of juice and the rest water.

Probably not for everybody, but I actually love arugula as the green in a green smoothie. It’s kinda earthy and peppery. Far better than kale which tastes like shit

Speaking of green smoothies, has anyone ever tried Athletic Greens or any other powdered greens?

I have a jug of athletic greens, tastes awful but I can stomach it with half a bottle of Gatorade zero. It will be going in smoothies too

It took me a while to realize the advantages I have as a single guy with no kids when it comes to things like portion control.

I basically don’t keep snacks or food in my house in general. If I’m cooking I buy what I’m gonna eat that day and that’s it. A bit of a pain for me, (I have little self control with food so that’s my way of dealing with it) laughably impractical/impossible for anyone with a family.

It takes a lot of discipline, and if I had that kind of discipline naturally I would never have been in the predicament of carrying bad weight. Plus, when you grow up with the “you need to clean your plate” mentality it’s very difficult to overcome the reflex against throwing out extra food once you’re full.

Picked up a couple bottles of Kombucha from the store the other day. What's everyone's thoughts on it? How often do you drink it? Will it cleanse me out or is it more subtle? Do you have a favorite? The ones I got were GT's Synergy, seems to be pretty high in sugar (16g).

The point of Kombucha is getting good bacteria in your gut and for antioxidants. Basically probiotics. You can get the same thing from fermented foods. I’ll drink one a week maybe if it’s on sale. You can also brew your own pretty easily.
Cleanse is basically a buzz word. Kinda like detox. That doesn’t really have the affect most are trying to sale.

Yeah man, I hear you. Anything strict or rigid is going to be impossible.

The way I figure it, if I can be as diligent with the rules as much as possible … but also have the flexibility to have some fun foods … it’s a positive change and has a chance to stick. I know that isn’t “Whole 30”, but I think it will work for me.

I do like so far that there is enough compliant whole 30 foods that I can make things work.

I like the portion control idea as well. I work too hard in the gym to not try and optimize my nutrition.

I was drinking my morning smoothie while making sandwiches for lunch. One of the sandwiches was just going to be an almond butter sammich, but then I looked down at the container of blueberries I put in my smoothie that were still out. Took a big ass hand full of blue berries, put it in the nutribullet, and splashed a bit of almond milk in. Vrrr, vrrr. Kinda soupy consistency. But I’ll be damned if it didn’t make for a delicious pb&j sandwich on Dave’s thin sliced multi grain bread.

    sorta kinda healthy I guess

pretty sure I've posted this before but since we're on the topic I'll do it again, I just don't like eating salads and what not to get my green intake so I knock all of that out with (delicious) smoothies that I sip on throughout the day in the same manner I'd be sipping on water regardless, it's 100% changed my life for the better (also wonderful for hangovers):

Kale - 4 cups (I just grab the pre-chopped bags and stick them in the freezer)
Berry flavored Powdered Greens - 1 scoop
Orange flavored Powdered Electrolytes - 1 scoop
    Ground Turmeric - 1 tsp
    Ground Ginger - 1 tsp
    Ground Cayenne - 1/4 tsp
Whole Peppercorns (for turmeric absorption) - ~4
    Flax Seed - 2 tbsp
Flesh and Juice of a Lemon
And then I alternate days between a banana and an avocado

Toss some ice in as well and 3 cups of water gives the consistency I want, great tasting citrusy drink with a slight kick from the cayenne/pepper. You'll need a pretty powerful blender though.

I, too, am not real fond of salads. Especially because I don’t care for dressing and I either eat them dry or with just a bit of olive oil mixed in. I don’t really eat them so much for the value of the veggie intake. I eat them because they’re lower carb and have less calories than eating a sandwich or some type of protein with a side of rice or potatoes. It’s just filler.

Made my own Booch for a year or so. It's incredibly easy as long as you have somewhere in the house to store it that doesn't have big temperature swings. After buying the initial kit you get each gallon batch for ~$4 every 2 weeks, which is probably cheaper than one 16oz bottle in the store. Really easy to flavor as well.

I'll probably get back into it once Texas weather is done being Texas weather and I'm no longer doing Keto. It's a good substitute for either morning or afternoon coffee for me just to cut back on having 2 cups of coffee a day. But you can get the same primary benefit by putting 1 spoonful of apple cider vinegar (with "the mother") in a drink once per day.

i also use frozen fruit. i keep banana slices, spinach, and blueberries in the freezer. i've learned frozen spinach, turnip greens, and kale have almost no flavor, and freezing lasts a long time.

So definitely a proponent of the D8 gummies. Haven’t even had a drop of alcohol for like 2.5 weeks. The gummies are not the same obviously, but they do the job.

Tell me about these gummies? What is Delta 8? Like I am 40 and old please. Are these just a relaxation tool?

Also, unrelated dropped 6 lbs and have still progressed in the weight room despite following the Whole 30 (for the most part). Breakfast is a morning smoothie and main carb source is potatoes, think I can do this pretty consistently.

One weird thing I've noticed is that if I take it more than a couple of hours before bed, it really disrupts my sleep. If I fall asleep within an hour of it kicking in, I sleep like a baby.

D8 is good. There's also an HHC gummy that's a bit headier. It gets you pretty fucked up. No hangover. No nothing the next day. Beware of the munchies though. The struggle is real

Love me some Delta 8, I did recently switch to using a pen though. The gummies were a bit annoying trying to get the dosage dialed in and then having to wait an hour for it to kick in. With the pen I take a couple rips to get to feeling good, and then a little later I'll take another to kind of top off. Seems to be working really well. Probably no cigarette smokers in here but delta 8 also helped me kick that habit. For the last year or so I had cut back to only smoking after work, usually while I was having a couple drinks. Cutting out the alcohol plus when I was on delta 8 I just had zero urge to want a cigarette was what did it.

I like fresh berries > jelly/jam with nut butter, sandwich or not, especially if they are good and ripe. I use blackberries, raspberries, and/or blueberries whole, and slice strawberries. Put them right on a sandwich, or have some with a few spoonfuls of nut butter. Really no need for the extra sugar in jelly.

Does anyone have a favorite brand of large/thin flatbreads? I've tried the Flat-out brand wraps and they're fine but they're generally small and I usually have to make two.

I don't care too much about limiting carbs, just kinda looking for a low calorie type of flatbread that I can load up into a wrap with vegetables/lean meat.

I eat a lot of the Mission Carb Balance wraps. Wish it was easier to find wraps/burrito tortillas larger than 12 inches so you can really load them up, but those are a decent size and hold up pretty well.

I eat probably 2 packs of these a week. They make a larger size and you can order, but the original size is available at my local grocery store. I don’t care that they’re low carb at all, just that they’re whole wheat, 50 calories, high in protein and absolutely loaded with fiber. Great for tacos and wraps, I’ll even roll them up and dip into salsa or hummus for a quick snack.

Found these at my grocery store. Made some chicken/hummus/veggie wraps and the two were about 800 total calories.

Had a long, busy day at work and realized that I hadn't been hungry or thought about food in 9 or 10 hours. Would recommend.

Trying to put on the weight lost from not working out much since covid/baby craziness. Found this stuff at trader joe's as a low sugar vessel for nut butter before bed because they've never done me wrong.

In my early 40s I lost a lot of bad weight by simply eating/drinking less and working out more. I wouldn’t say it melted off because it took awhile to really be noticeable to other people, but I saw results pretty quick.

I’m 49 now and after packing on bad weight over the last two years I’m back on the wagon for the last month or so. It’s definitely been harder to start seeing results this time around. Age is a bitch.

It's very hard to keep weight off if you drink. Obv it's got tons of calories and you make bad food decisions when you're drunk. It's why I basically don't drink except for special occasions

Guinness has less calories than most beers but a rake of them sets you back a few days.

The worst part of getting older is that the old 1-2 month crash course to get fitish again now needs 2-3. And it comes back with a vengeance. I still don’t mind having two week get loose periods around Christmas and summer holidays though.

I’m this way at 40. Still in good shape but not what I know I can be in. It’s definitely harder because at this point it’s not like I’m super motivated to just drop a lot of weight other than I feel better when I do. I lift 3-5 days a week and do cardio but it doesn’t peel off like it used to. The Hawaiian pizza I ate yesterday isn’t helping either. I got my first blood work done for starting TRT again. I did it like 7 years ago and had great results with just some minor side effects so I’m going to do a different cycle this time.

Yes and no. You can cycle off. You’re not taking the levels of what people like bodybuilders take. I took 100cc a week and those guys take over 1000cc a week. I’ll start at 200 and then go to 140 a week for 6 weeks this time and adjust based on what my lab work says. I did it and came off and had a kid. My brother is the same. He takes test and tren and came off so they could have a kid and got back on.

My biggest thing is the recovery aspect. I’m one year to the day today of tearing my right bicep lifting and having surgery. I tore my left one a few years prior. For me to be able to lift what I need at my age I need the extra “umph” for recovery or else I’m just able to lift every few days.

It depends. It’s duration and person dependent. Once your body recognizes exogenous T, which is pretty quickly, it shuts down natural production. It can come back online once you stop, but just depends on how long you were on exogenous T and your own body’s ability to restart. If you do go off and your body starts producing again it’ll almost always be at a lower rate than prior.
