Staring down your own physical erosion is a bitch. Can't deadlift or squat - groin tugs. Can't leg press - knees hurt. I think I'm officially out on leg days.

Never lift weights in my life; would like to get a 3x/week routine going. Can anyone point me in the direction of a basic weekly rubric to use?

A StrongLifts 5x5 is a good place to start in your position. Start light, focus on form. Don’t try to be a hero and go heavy. Tons of content on YouTube to help with your form. Don’t be shy about recording your lifts to watch and critique yourself/post and get feedback. There’s a weightlifting thread you can post in and everyone is pretty cool there except that one guy (you know who you are).

I highly recommend using an app to track progress. I use gymrun, but there are a bunch and even some pre-populated 5x5 apps. It's always hard to remember how much you lifted in each exercise the last time you worked out.

Just drink when you're thirsty. The amount of water itself isn't as relevant as long as you're consuming enough electrolytes in your diet in the form of salt/magnesium/potassium/calcium/etc

Killin it. Went sober Oct 15 - Nov 15 and then again all of January.

There's a grimy, dirty, bare-bones gym like one mile away from where I'm staying, only free weights, dumbbells, and benches. 100 pesos/visit. I love it.

I haven't really done free-weights since pre-Covid, love getting back int he gym.

Still in the middle of losing some weight but I've developed some really great new habits. I've found physically active activities that I enjoy, have cut alcohol completely, am enjoying all foods but managing calorie intake to within a specific range every day, and am working out 4 days a week in addition to walking around 20 miles a week. I feel great. There's no mental strain and fatigue like crash diets of the past have created. In it for the long haul.

Doing intense 45-minute workouts 6 days a week. Only weekend alcohol (and much less). While I’m not terrible with the diet, I need to clean it up a bit if I really want to get rid of some of this belly fat.

Started to feel bad about going to the gym during lunch so I switched to going at 5:30 am a couple of times per week. Feels great and gives me a chance to increase my calorie intake quite a bit.

ok fellas, turned 40 last year and used it to motivate my ass into some long term positive life changes. Doing really well since start of 2022 and have tweaked my focus this year to a handful of money sapping pseudo-science supplements.

    Right now my stack is:

Daily nutritional all-in-one shake alternating between a couple Kachava flavors and Huel Black. I typically add a greens blend superfood from Amazing Grass.

On top of that I’m poppin pills:

    - Daily 5g creatine
    - Lion’s Mane
    - Alpha GPC
    - Some combo capsule with Ashwaganda, Maca, and Fenugreek
    - Spirulina+Chlorella

Some of these I’m going to take for the duration of one or two bottles to see how it goes (if noticeable at all) but the two I’m really buying into is creatine and lion’s mane. Could be placebo but my mental clarity and focus last month has genuinely felt like the sharpest I’ve been probably ever (for my fans out there that ain’t sayin much, I know.)

Anybody have any opinions of this stuff? One thing I’m worried about is taking too many things and getting some weird amounts of stuff that isn’t helpful. For instance spirulina I believe has a lot of copper.

Think studies show any vitamins in pill form don't really get absorbed. Expensive piss and what not.

Agree to drop everything but the creatine.

Took a similar dive myself recently and have started to listen to a lot of people like Andrew Huberman, Peter Attia, Rhonda Patrick, etc. One of the kick starters for this was I did 23andme for funsies and part of that I found out I have the EPOE4 gene variant (people with this variant have an increased risk of Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases). I have looked into lions mane a little but haven't gotten that one. Supplements I'm taking now are:

Vitamin D 8,000 IU (was still low on my last blood test so probably need to up this, according to 23andme I actually have some gene variant that makes me more likely to need high levels of vitamin D)
L-Citruline (last year I gained a bunch of weight and stopped working out, blood pressure ticked up and this helps bring it down a little)
A couple different magnesium ones - Magnesium Citrate, and Magnesium Threonate are the two main ones, the threonate I take at bedtime
Just got some Theanine but haven't started it yet, that's a super popular on on the nootropics subreddit
DHA heavy omega 3's - I got into Dr. Rhonda Patrick because she talks a lot about neurodegenerative diseases and she is a HUGE proponent of omega 3's

Did amazing greens for a while, but got spooked by the potential contaminants. My stack is limited to omega 3 liquid fish oil, vitamin d3 (dr.'s orders), and whey/citrulline on workout days

Had an annual doctor visit one year after living on a plant-based diet. My BP moved into the ideal range, as did my cholesterol. Cut my LDL and triglycerides in half (both numbers were in the normal range to begin with). My doctor said it was the biggest percentage drop he had ever seen year over year, including for patients who started on statins.

    I will never go back.

Yeah I meant the pill form doesn't get absorbed. I'm cheap and wanted to see if I was wasting my money one time when I had been recommended it.

I suspect this is true, but I rationalize it by taking the liquid form of a reputable brand, mixing it with fat (yogurt) for better absorption, and doing it every day vs. what I would begrudgingly do with real food. I just can't stomach actual fish, unfortunately.

You mentioned being cheap, which is also my game. I use this, which seems a lot cheaper than taking those big horse pills. Just tastes like citrus and I can't tell it's there in my yogurt.
