Watched Blair witch last night. Best horror movie ever. I know those were actors, but the frustration and fear was real. Apparently the director fucked with them unmercifully and made it hard as hell for them to get any sleep.
Only one I've listened to is Vision. It was creepy as shit. Not sure how it compares to others obviously.
watched the new "I spit on your Grave" last night. Nothing thrilling, but it's a decent watch, brutal as hell. And the chick is hot.
I was living in Orlando 6 months after its release, the hype for it was still obnoxious. Probably turned me off from it (both directors went to UCF).
I wish more horror movies went this route. Most of the fear, for me at least, comes from the anticipation of something terrifying, and movie "monsters" typically aren't all that scary looking.
It's just so freaking intense because you can feel the frustration. Anyone who has ever been even a bit lost in the woods knows the feeling is terrifying. Someone/something fucking with you adds another level to it. The director also starved them so you can tell that all of the frustration between the actors is 100% real. I wish more movies would follow suit. The unknown is typically way more frightening than anything that a director could produce with CGI.
Which is exactly why the most terrifying movie moment for me was in The Conjuring when the little girl is talking about what's behind the door staring right at them, but we can't see anything.
I will say this...while I love this movie and it is super creepy, it is very dialogue driven. Also, it ignores Exorcist 2 completely.
The Omen has always been a favorite...and I watched it when I was really young so it scared the bejesus out of me
I just read a bunch about the story the Conjuring is based off of. Pretty terrifying shit. The thing that gets me is that they didn't move for 10 years. If it was that bad (alleged rape of the little girls by a demon etc) I would have to think that they would have gotten the fuck outta there
Most websites take exceprt from that book which is about the Warrens. I read parts of it on lunch breaks. Scary stuff. Has the real Annabelle story. Much better than the movie.
When the Warrens were writing In a Dark Place, the book upon which the cosmically forgettable 2009 film The Haunting in Connecticut was based, they contacted horror author Ray Garton to help. Garton went into the project thinking that he'd be interviewing a family who truly believed they were being haunted, but quickly found that the family was deeply troubled, and no one involved could keep their stories straight. When he expressed his concerns to Ed Warren, he responded, "All the people who come to us are crazy ... just use what you can and make the rest up ... make it up and make it scary. That's why we hired you."
I actually said it was my favorite horror movie back in orientation for my job (was hired in late Oct 2012) and no one in the room ever thought of it as a horror movie. I convinced them otherwise.
I am mostly because GDT is my favorite current director. Critics that I trust really like it so I'm looking forward to it.
I saw a preview for this a while back and dismissed it but it's gotten good reviews. You watching it through Torrance?
