I'd rate it like a 6.5 or 7 out of 10. At least the ending wasn't fucking stupid like a lot of his movies have been
Just watched Malignant and thought it was pretty good. Not anywhere near perfect, of course - the actors playing the 2 cops were so bad - but there was enough demented shit to keep me entertained. And Gabriel's reveal was hilarious.
I would have liked to see the book ending in theaters. Solid film overall. But the ending wasn't my favorite.
Starting Infinity Pool, will likely be a 2 night event as there’s no chance my wife doesn’t fall asleep in the next two hours
Watched Horror in the High Desert and Horror in the High Desert 2 this weekend. I thought the second was actually much better. WOuld recommend if you're into found footage stuff.
Talk to Me Review: A24 Horror Movie Offers Brutal Ghost Story https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/talk-to-me-review-a24-horror-movie-ghost-story/
Fall was actually a pretty decent movie. Unless you have a problem with heights - then you're fuuuùcked.
Huh. 87% on RT? I didn't expect it to be so high. I mean, not that it's worth a pinch of shit anymore, but that's surprising.
Just got out of Evil Dead Rise. What a piece of unmitigated, awful shit. Worst movie I've seen this year, and I'm already well into double figures.
Just saw the timeline and not sure if a spoiler or not since I haven’t seen the new movie Spoiler so this takes place right before the Ash vs Evil Dead series?
I actually kinda enjoyed it--or didn't hate it at least--but also don't care about the series/how it fits into a series (if it does), was simply trying to enjoy a Thursday night movie with a crowd (solid crowd btw, have missed that). Regardless, i was a little surprised that the RT score was so high and it was the 4th of 6 movies I saw at the theater last week (Sisu, the original Superman, How to Blow Up a Pipeline, Evil Dead, Renfield, and Chevalier), so maybe was just right time for something different.
A buddy of mine from my dorm in college who has made a couple horror movies--including one called "Found Footage 3D" that was available on Shudder for a while (and may still be)--has already seen this and loved it. Spoiler: His quick FB post about it
Evil Dead Rise was an entertaining horror flick to me. I’m an Evil Dead fanatic (2 is my most watched film of all time of any genre). I rate it just behind 2 and AoD. I miss Bruce obviously but understandable that he just can’t keep appearing in the Universe. Not as many laughs as I expected but pretty brutal throughout and I thought the high rise was done extremely well as a new location. Enough Easter eggs to satisfy the fanatics. Spoiler Interesting that they said that their version of the Necronomicon was one of three that existed. So hopefully that gives us a new type of location, time and protagonist dynamic for the next one. Going back to the cabin setting again doesn’t need to be done.
I still need to watch it sadly. Really cool that they got it made and found some minor success with it, I still remember getting a FB messenger note from him years ago, maybe a decade now, when they were first trying to raise money for it. He has another film or two in works now, recently shared a teaser trailer for one, really cool that he continues to follow this dream and doing something different than most folks i went to Rice with.
I too am a massive nerd for ED2, next to John Carpenter’s The Thing, it’s probably my most watched movie (watch it every October). Imma be honest, I actually really enjoyed the requel Evil Dead directed by Fede Alvarez. It gets knocked because it lacked humor but Sam Rami didn’t set out to make a horror comedy with the first one. I just hope Evil Dead Rise is gory, menacing and has some fun uncomfortable moments.
I’d be lying if I said I paid strict attention but I remember some cool stuff in a kitchen scene, etc. I think they mentioned it in some found footage documentary and that’s how I found it.
I don't expect everyone's experience to be the same as mine - there's still plenty of gross bits to enjoy if that's what you're going for. But I thought the direction and acting was lousy, the characters were bland, and it looked and felt as though it was done on the cheap. I thoroughly enjoyed Fede's 2013 version, but it was almost as though they took what worked and got rid of it, relying solely on the blood and gore - there are literally no scares or any humor in this film, which was the wrong choice for me. But it's been raking in the $$$ so what do I know.
I love ED2 and AoD, but mostly for the insanity and laughs. This doesn’t look like that in the trailer and been trying to understand if it’s “funny” from people but everyone giving different answers has me skeptical
I hope it’s not funny, the brutality and sort of no nonsense possessed by evil spirits shit of the remake is what makes it special. They don’t need to try to recreate the camp and humor of the originals — EVIL DEAD remake might be the most effective ‘possession’ film outside of HEREDITARY since Exorcist 3
There’s a lot of context lost on why the Evil Dead franchise is the way it is. It only was deemed camp because it was so low budget it morphed into schlock. Rami and Bruce’s entire agenda was to make a true horror film but the budget just didn’t allow it. So for ED2 and AoD they completely embraced the schlock and humor. They always wanted to make a true horror film and they did that with these requels. They’re not meant to be funny outside of ridiculous gore and demons being cheeky assholes.
That’s not lost on me at all. I just prefer it to be funny and I think the majority of the fans do as well thus my question
Have you checked out Ash vs Evil Dead? It’s a perfect continuation of the franchise and is damn good.
5 was bad, no idea why I watched 6.it was even worse They are Sci - Fi channel original movie level bad
