Eh, child abuse loses me, but I think there are very real and important discussions to be had about the exploitation of college athletes, especially with regard to football. I would welcome that comparison.
Is it exploitation when thousands of kids try in vain every year to be "exploited" the way college athletes are?
is it exploitation when people in poor countries line up to work in sweat shops? i dont know if you thought that point out very much
I dont care to get into one of your beloved semantic tiffs, but it was both in this case. Good day sir.
It wasn't ironic at all. Not one bit. So now you're using semantics incorrectly. It's not semantics. It is the actuall definition of a word. You used it incorrectly.
A. You just used sweat shop workers to complete an analogy with college football players, yet I had a poorly thought out point. B. It's not the NCAA's fault there is no viable NFL minor league option. C. I'll buy that Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield, Jake Browning, etc., give more to their schools than they receive in return. No argument there. That argument stops for me when you get to Ball State's backup right guard. There's a line in there we can debate, but I won't buy that the rank-and-file of college football is exploited, let alone your typical Olympic sports athletes.
eHo to be fair regarding your Jenna Jameson discussion, we talk shit about bannon and trump's appearance not to mention this Miller guy and others. Why isn't it wrong to talk about trump being a fat slob but it is wrong to talk shit about Jenna Jameson's looks. I thought she was beautiful at one point now I think she is beyond fugly. Am I only misogynistic if I find a woman unattractive? I am against "slut shaming" in any form. I don't think porn stars (male or female) are any less human because they fuck on camera. I just am not going think an ugly one is worthy of me killing some unborn kids.
I haven't researched it but just seeing these teams put up these massive facilites while seeing individual players get suspended for 4 games for signing their name for a few thousand dollars, seems kind of fucked up.
I agree with that. You shouldn't have to give up rights to your likeness just because you play a college sport. But I can't get behind the idea that a college scholarship is akin to a sweatshop when we have record numbers of college loan debt among young people in this country.
Obviously getting a scholarship is not on the same level as working to death in a sweatshop...I doubt anyone thought that had to be spelled out
First, it annoyed me mostly because she said entirely awful awful things, but it seemed to be completely ignored in favor of her looks. Secondly, (and I know this is an unpopular position) but it is my opinion that there is a big difference in discussing the appearances of men and women. While I suppose it's possible for a man to be discriminated against due to his looks, women are way more likely to experience sex based discrimination. Calling Bannon or Trump a slob or an orange or whatever doesn't have the history of discrimination behind it. If we get to a point where women aren't discriminated against due to their looks, I'll concede the point.
Fair enough. I'll just speak for myself. When I call someone ugly I don't care about their sex and or gender. I think some in that thread attached her views to her looks and went after her even harder. This board has grown and was way more misogynistic. I remember a time someone mention not wanting to watch New Girl because it had girl in the title therefore it couldn't be funny. So baby steps.
This thread ironically has a lot of pussy in it. I feel so much better about the future of mankind after watching you slapfight amongst yourselves. Good job, good effort.
I don't doubt that, and I'm not going to act like I'm 100% above it at all times. Still, in certain circumstances, it might be hard to differentiate the actual misogynists from the folks who agree with the comments but not the underlying reasoning.
communism and capitalism are mutually exclusive, unless we are talking about things communist "parties" do yes, any instance where surplus value is expropriated is exploitation
Who the fk is rickyrubio? Seems like a troll alt account but its been around since 2009 with 5k posts --- Was it this thread or the Trump thread that linked a Podcast (which I thought was being ran by Crooked Media) that was a conservative vs liberal type discussion. Cover art was like two George Washingtons - one wearing a tri tip hat and the other a pink knit beanie
Nvm Crooked Media literally updated their iTunes Podcast page today and has it listed. "With Friends Like These"
I think he's just doing Kucinich things, which is basically disagreeing with everyone. He's run as an independent in Ohio before though, 1980's.
