i'm looking to read a good book to get smarter on Marx and his views. not sure i have the time or fortitude to take down Kapital or the manifesto. do you guys have any suggestions? this book caught my eye, seems like the kind of thing i'd be looking for:
more modern books that attempt to speak for marx are all very heavily colored by the authors own biases and end up being more confusing at the very best - i.e. david harvey is the type of social democrat that marx and engels spent most of their lives arguing with i would just read marx, its more approachable than people make it out to be. the subject matter can be confusing at first but he wrote everything to be comprehensible for working class people back in the 1800s
The problems is it's extremely dry and boring. Also - the meaning of a lot of words and phrases has changed in the modern vernacular so some stuff gets lost in translation, so to speak
Alternatively David Harvey has a “podcast” lecture series where he covers Kapital Vol 1 I think. I thought it was pretty good coming into the subject fresh. It’s called “Reading Marx’s Capital”.
it's been 22 years since I was last in Seoul, but their subway bathrooms were pretty tight and came in handy a number of times. On the other hand, it was annoying as shit that the trains stopped running after midnight.
Korea has become a pretty stratified economy, much like ours, with a quickly rising wealth gap. But somehow they can still have proper public transportation.
The last time I used the word “Dialectic” in a conversation, the other person thought I was referring to regional accents.
Pissing off my PNW friends by saying that Nancy Pelosi kinda sucks and also being a professional politician isn’t a real job.
Does anyone have a link to a good explainer on Peru. I know the broad strokes - They elected a leftist POTUS after rejected decades of shock doctrine, theyre trying to oust him, he called to dissolve the congress ect. But looking to get a better grasp on it.
Late to the party here but it seems pretty underreported that her ascension and power is heavily tied to her ability to raise money, and then wield that money as she sees fit. McConnell isn't much different in that way
Yes it does There are like 4 or 5 dermatology practices around here. None of them accept Medicaid because Medicaid doesn’t pay shit and takes forever to pay. My practice frequently gets Medicaid patients that rely on public transportation that end up needing to be referred to a dermatologist. Since no dermatologist accepts Medicaid here, I have to refer them to UVA Dermatology that’s over an hour away, which almost all of our Medicaid patients can’t do. And VA insurance is even worse to deal with. Patients literally have to get approval from the VA for every office visit outside of the ER. Can pretty seriously delay needed healthcare because the VA moves slow as molasses. And half the time you’re dealing with someone at the VA that doesn’t have a fucking clue what they are doing. I don’t get why those two can’t be run like Medicare. At least at my practice, we don’t have to get authorization for anything. Even the hyperbaric treatments which is insanely expensive - like at least $1,000 charged per visit for 40 visits for complete treatment - and no authorization needed. Doctor can say throw them in the hyperbaric chamber and we can get them in there same day as long as we have the availability. Don’t know what it’s like dealing directly with Medicare as the patient, but damn it sure is better for the patient on our end. Never have any delay in providing needed healthcare for Medicare patients unless they have a commercial supplement or replacement. Feels like the government basically just said fuck poors and veterans when creating the VA and Medicaid.
I have several things from personal experience that I would love to be front page of a newspaper like that and they all involve our healthcare system and children. Hard to explain that sort of anger tbh
Let me tell you about a young man named Bernard Sanders and his plan to just let everybody have Medicare.
Yeah VA community care is a bitch. In my experience it's at least a 2 week waiting period from referral to whenever the civilian doctors get a hold of you. My initial appointment for an in-lab sleep study took 3 months.
Finally finished that article. If there's anything that could turn me into a unabomber style terrorist or an honest to god revolutionary it's that sort of shit. It's really impossible to explain how soulless and empty much of the American healthcare system, insurance companies in particular, is unless you try to navigate it personally. It's hard to explain until you try to navigate it, even as an educated person with the means and education to pursue the claims.
American Insurance executives would be high on the list to be the first to put their head in the guillotine. Just all around evil mother fuckers
Call me crazy but I’m just not sure Jimmy Dore has any interest in the truth. It’s tough when you’re trying to connect with Alex Jones viewers.
