Watching these trains wrecks of cabinet hearings and this inauguration coverage fucking sucks. But, I can go to sleep knowing that I didn't support a candidate and a party that is run by and supported by literal nazis, that fetishizes guns and thinks dead school children are an acceptable price for having them, that openly thinks LGBT people shouldn't have the same rights as straight people, that hates other religions because they worship a different god, that fears and demonizes brown people. They don't give a shit about poor people, and would have those poor people get sick and die rather than work with a black president. Oh and then do everything they could to delegitimizate that black president through non-cooperation and outward racism. This is a group of people who have been on the wrong side of history on every issue that matters and continue to be so. /Rant over
It's somewhat nice to know that someplace, sometime, people of their ilk will have their skulls bashed in.
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/senate-russia-hacking-investigation-trump-233836 apparently senate republicans tried to not include a look at the trump campaign as part of the investigation into russian interference in the election
That's certainly something you can take personal pride and comfort in. Your conscience is at least clear. On the other hand, I doubt the 64% of Germans that didn't vote for Hitler slept better at night when the Russians were raping their country.
i wonder if don will give any indication about what his plans are beyond building the wall and making things great again
I'm getting my wisdom teeth out today. I've been "joking" all week that maybe I'll get lucky and they'll play fast and loose with fentanyl and versed and I'll never wake up. Maybe trump will never be my president. Wish me luck guys.
It's that time again, when the OK legislature writes up lunacy. Joseph Silk, one of our premier nutcases, submitted a bill removing the word "inseparable" from the OK Constitution in regards to Oklahoma's relationship to the US, thus allowing for future secession. Andrew Sykes is another frequent offender, and he has submitted a bill extending in-state college tuition ONLY to those who not only are state residents but have GRANDPARENTS who are also state residents and have submitted OK state tax returns for the past 10 years.
As a citizen of the rest of the country... maybe this isn't so bad. That will attract young professionals to Oklahoma. Come to Oklahoma, where your kids will have to pay out of state tuition even in their own state.
did you watch the video? it's basically just listing all of obamas accomplishments, it doesn't do much with maddow herself
It's such a small percentage of the budget. It's almost like you'd have to have a grudge against it or it's part of some grander scheme to cut it.
Here's another fun addition by the OK legislature. Nathan Dahm, who has been a real piece of shit for years, submitted a bill that would ban the use of any public funds, or people being paid by tax dollars, to speak out against gun rights expansions. He is specifically targeting the state universities, which have been very vocal about not wanting campus concealed carry.
yeah it's all about making a statement that the hifalutin times of rolling in the NEA dough have passed
One of my favorite talking points from the formidable conservative brain trust on tmb is that the election was the complete rejection of Obama's policies. I'm sure all the mensas who voted for Trump had a real firm grasp on that.
... actually I misread this post but I'm going to leave what I wrote anyway Someone was talking about this, maybe Jonathan Chait. Basically when the Democrats attempted health care reform in the 90s, the Republicans were like "no single-payer, but we support a system where everyone is forced to have insurance," because at that time they still had to give some reasoned explanation for why they opposed something, even if the real reason was that it was a policy proposal from a Democratic president. So Obamacare ends up being essentially the system they proposed as an alternative two decades ago, but now it's the worst law ever written, etc. Funny how that works.
I think my favorite polling anecdote was that at one point his "qualified to be president" number was at like 38% while like 45% said they were likely to vote for him, ie there were people who thought he was unqualified to be president but were voting for him anyway
"He tells it like it is" but "you can't take him literally" "He's a man of faith" but "he's definitely not a role model." "He's a guy that gets Middle America" while living his entire life in Manhattan as a trust fund baby. "I'm tired of celebrities getting involved in politics" but I'll vote for a tabloid whore who hosted a reality TV show. etc.
