drops on 1/28 (prime) cliffs: its an adult animated series based on 500+ hours of improv/a d&d campaign. animation done by titmouse. etc.
no https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titmouse,_Inc. big mouth, adult swim stuff, community stuff, some recent work with marvel. ive always been a fan without realizing it.
Little more adult than I thought it would be but hey, my kids have to learn about this stuff sometime
Was just texting Andy Reocho on how surprised I was that it is amazing. Not just as a fan of the show, but the pacing was great and it looked amazing
It’s ridiculously good. I knew they’d make a good show, it’s been their dream; but it’s an incredibly well done adaptation.
Then end of episode 5 was just as tense a reveal as it was in my imagination… even more heartbreaking even with the scenes before
Si. Checked them out for a bit last night, I get the appeal behind D&D. Matt is one hell of a storyteller.
Yep. The animated short form is really doing a good job of hitting the highlights and main points. The stream/podcast is definitely a long form storytelling that doesn’t appeal to everyone.
12 episodes. First season is just the Briarwood Arc, maybe it'll tease whatever the second season is at the end. Guessing the Chroma Conclave for season 2.
Spoiler I'll be sad if Percy kills himself. Or I interpret it as he is killing his own blood, Cassie betrays him
I won’t spoil anything, but Percy’s vengeance plot line is really, really good. not a spoiler if you’ve seen the recent batch of episodes, but there’s a quote in either ep 7 or 8: Spoiler “Wait, who’s the sixth barrel for?”
Spoiler darn, I assumed that quote was meant to be the path of vengeance is never completed as there will always be someone left/next. All caught up, so I assume he has to kill Cassie or he kills himself. Sad.
Either way, this has been a wonderful series and experience. Wish I knew DnD wasn't just nerd stuff and followed Critical Role sooner.
honestly haven't had the chance to watch more than an episode but i'm happy to see it creating new critters
5.5 ish years ago saw Critical Role on twitch randomly one Thursday night among most current viewers and was like “wtf? Who watches/plays DnD?” Watched an episode and was hooked. Had never played DND and to the day have played less than 10 actual games/sessions. Still enjoyable and if I had more time would totally play more, it’s really, really fun if with a good group.
honestly I think watching Travis play DND as Grog was my gateway, seemed like a normal, sports loving guy like myself and made it seem way more approachable and fun. I actually really dislike Liam’s intense/broody vibe but he’s grown on me over time.
I try to not compare moments in the show with moments in the Live Broadcast, but I really don’t like how they portrayed “Scanbo”. In the broadcast he was really slick on how he went about that operation. Was really the first time you saw Scanlan’s intelligence and cunning. LoVM just made him out as a bumbling fool
