Finished this Spoiler Hard to believe how gullible these people were. I get how people get scammed by email and such but to this level is hard to believe. Freegard is the worst of the worst. Kind of amazing one of these victims family members (especially Jake, his current victims son) hasn't just murdered the guy over the years.
Thought the new Aziz special (30 mins) was weak. It had an attempted Chapelle delivery vibe without the payoff.
I've never liked Aziz as a comedian. He works for a schtick role in a movie or tv series, but beyond that I don't think he's capable of being the main attraction.
I feel like this show has no identity. Is it a straightforward drama? Is it a self aware satire? I can’t tell but it doesn’t seem self aware enough if it’s the latter.
outside of Cobra Kai, I feel like I haven't watched anything on Netflix in months. Any shows from the last year worth checking out that I might have missed?
i won’t judge because some people like it but I got off the show in season 2, I don’t think it’s good at all.
Yeah watching the first episode now... Was described as a comedy and not seeing the humor in it. Other than the dropped casserole dish thing.
It becomes more like a parody as it goes. Confused my wife and I a lot. By the end I think I understand what they were trying to do, I think they missed the mark though.
After nearly 50 years of hiding, Leatherface returns to terrorize a group of idealistic young friends who accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town.
The title should have told you guys it’s satire parody. Having read a bunch of books in this genre it does a really good job at doing what it intends to do. It’s self aware without being self aware. It’s so over the top it’s imo great because it’s taking itself so serious yet extremely ridiculous.
I’ve read plenty of books in this genre, understood the ridiculous title and still thought it missed the mark. Like I said I understood what they were trying to do, just don’t think they did it. It’s subjective though so what misses the mark for me may be right up your alley which is great. I don’t regret watching it. Far worse ways to spend 3.5 hours on a Sunday.
the posts I quoted made it seem like people were confused on what it was meant to be. I thought up until the finale it walked that line of not being too over the top and the last two episodes (especially the last) went full on ridiculous Naked Gun territory. I might also be giving it too much credit because of my love for Kristen Bell.
Netflix been going haam on Korean content lately. Picked up All of Us Are Dead and while it’s fairly enjoyable the dialog is weird and awkward. Not sure if it’s cultural differences or just shitty writing
I’m late on this, so might be missing the context but I’d guess most would have a subscription to the criterion channel. That’s like 11 or 12 bucks a month or 100 dollars for the year. I know MUBI also has a decent collection of foreign films. That’s 6 dollars a month if you have an Amazon prime account. Also, now that film festivals are going remote, I think tickets are more available to the general public, so I’m sure some go down that route.
I’m not sure what the selection is like on their streaming platform, but it definitely does include docs
Really the weird dialogue and exchanges weren't an issue with Train to Busan or Squid Game so I’m just chalking it up to strange writing
When I’ve tried to watch Asian movies dubbed it always feels like the facial emotion/expression doesn’t match the English voices. Can’t do it
It’s not the humor. It’s the fighting. They’re constantly fighting in it for silly or inexplicable reasons and it makes no sense.
The first half of the first episode of squid games I noticed all all the characters inexplicably yelling or fighting with each other and finding it odd. I think that’s a cultural thing. I thought All of Us Are Dead was amazing. Really well made. The only trouble I have with Korean shows is that I have trouble telling apart a few of the cast members so I’m constantly confused and mixing up plot lines. That’s just my inherent racism though.
