Rotten tomatoes is definitely fair. I would say it’s entertaining, in the same realm as the Underworld movies for me.
Bright was as bad as I expected a David Ayer movie written by Max Landis to be. There's a decent premise here but no real mythology or world building to make this interesting. This is nothing more than a derivative cop movie that we've all seen before with orcs and elves that might as well be human. How was the production budget for this $90 million? I think Okja is the best Netflix movie so far.
I have not. I've been slacking off lately. Have a stack of shit I need to watch. I haven't seen anything by maddin; any good?
I am out there and loving every second of it. This movie was bad. It wasn’t as bad as The Snownan which was turruble
I will never trust your movie opinions again if you say you like that irredeemable piece of shit. I was legit mad upon leaving the theater that critics positively reviewed it.
There are certain genres they over/under rate. Anything with serious subject matter, especially docs, are way too high. Welcome to Lieth was garbage and they gave it a 97. Their opinions on comedies are worthless, too. Also, Bright was an easy watch.
I mean, what's some of your favorite shit? Seeing that the box office was $17k I can't imagine there was shit for a budget. I tend to give the benefit of the doubt to those that are trying to uniquely tell unique stories. This gives off every appearance of being one of those types of movies. Not even sure how you got turned onto watching this given how small it is.
Rotten Tomatoes is by no means a great measure of film criticism. To knock it for reviews of comedic movies isn't exactly fair, though. It's very rare that a comedic movie cuts through the landscape to be considered a cinematic masterpiece. What comedy ratings do you have gripes about? When you have someone like Chaplin that pumps out shit like City Lights, The Great Dictator, and even Modern Times, the bar was set at impossibly high levels early on.
Nothing exciting I’m sure...standard stuff for the most part. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is probably my favorite movie along with The Master since NCFOM. I was just curious if anyone could like that movie with a straight face because it’s so hilariously shitty. After I and the 20 other people walked out of the movie I looked up some of the reviews and some of them were so cunty and absurd...basically saying ‘this movie is nonsensical and awful but that’s the point’ and I thought it was the dumbest attempt to positively spin garbage I’ve ever seen.
joe the know-it-all what did you find know joe ? smuva kid . GUBBS GOT THE SMUVA BOYS LOL! YOUR SO SMART HUH ? NEXT TIME JOE THINK BEFORE YOU COME AFTER THE MASTER ? SMUVA DICK.
Maybe unfair, but the vast majority of people want to know how funny a comedy is. Not whether it holds a candle to classic movies. No gripes in particular, btw. Just in general.
Brights problem is that it takes itself too seriously. If it tried to go more of a Men in Black route it would probably have been a lot better.
Being on Netflix really helps because the perceived cost of seeing the move is essentially nothing. If this had been released to theatres, the people that saw it would be much more critical of it.
Oh. I like plenty of contemporary movies. Its really hard to make it on the list of greatest movies ever made, though, and the same applies for all of the arts, really.
Imagine being Will Smith in his prime and rolling with Jada Pinkett when you were working next to Nia Long for years and couldn't or didn't pull that.
I Pretty much agree with this. I’ve paid full price for tickets to movies that I enjoyed less. I’m sick and sitting in the couch and was moderately entertained for 2 hours. I’ll allow it. With respect to spagett’s argument, i would add RT has no business rating horror genre movies. I’ve never agreed with them, but I like Rob Zombie movies so fuck me.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is one of my favorite movies, but nobody I know even remotely liked it (a couple of them turned it off halfway). That cast was so good; glad to know there are others who enjoyed it.
Just saw it. Enjoyed it. Was better than several of the horrors I saw this year. Not anything great just a change of pace. Will Smith was better here than Suicide Squad, not that is saying much but he was.
One of my favorites too. I enjoy movies that thread like that one. The Good Shepherd was in a similar vein.
Bright was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it. The cast was great. In a movie like that it’s hard to build the mythology well, so it did leave me wanting to know more. I doubt we will ever get any backstory. Are there public metrics on Netflix show streaming numbers? I’d be really interested in that.
Okja - 86% First They Killed My Father - 89% The conspiracy against straight to streaming movies is not based off reality. That is one of the widest splits I've ever seen between audience and critics, which really makes me curious. I'll definitely watch. Has anyone seen the mini series, Godless? It also got a high score on RT, 88%/89% split.
Bright dialogue was funny. I think a tmb’er wrote it. Go too weird in end though. WIlling to bet many of you don’t know this, but cop and tmb’er NolenBlue is an orc.
