Hiring the Northwestern AD feels so perfectly ACC that it should be formally announced by Jefferson Pilot Sports
Like his current title isn't even AD. It's "Combe Family VP for Athletics & Recreation." That's just too perfect.
it's Dexter Reid put some respect on that poor man's name! but yeah that was my first thought when it happened too
I don't remember his recruiting story at all but how is it possible that he only had offers from Carolina and ECU (think that's right)?
i may be imagining this but i want to say he was likely going to give up football and just go to unc as a regular student until we offered. that may apocryphal tho
Did you see our defense play? He wasn't good enough to play on that Spoiler seemingly good kid and I think he could be a good add. Played a decent amount
we already maxed out names on the Carl Smith Center, Home of David A. Harrison III Field, at Scott Stadium. Lambeth Field is still kept up and has room for a few more names, we have the George Welsh Indoor Practice Facility, and the new practice fields for football can take a few names iirc.
Seems like we are interested in Durden as well, presumably as a depth piece. Our DL starters are pretty locked in for next year.
"There will be immediate challenges for Phillips upon his arrival in Greensboro. Swofford was considered a fine steward of the ACC for his 24 seasons, but he leaves the ACC with a glaring issue with its ESPN television contract. That will become an immediate priority for Phillips to attempt to rectify. There’s extreme concern on the campus level that the ACC’s television deal, which goes through the 2035-36 season, projects as woefully inadequate. Phillips’ television chops will be tested early, as it’s expected that it will take dynamic action to change that ESPN deal. ESPN isn’t in the business of ripping up contracts that are lopsided in its favor, which means something seismic like a membership addition would be needed to shake up the deal." https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-ac...-phillips-as-next-commissioner-043554647.html
You better atleast lead him on like hes got a chance to be a starter so he doesnt tear your locker room apart before the season even starts.
If the situation is as desperate as it sounds, they may just offer us a deal that we can't say no to, imo.
But seriously, I think most ND folks would have expected hell to freeze over before we ever played a conference game. And things aren’t so bad this year for us. Beyond that, we’re starting to see a major financial disadvantage with our current NBC deal compared to SEC schools. As much as we want to remain independent to cater to our biggest donors coast to coast, the media dollars are beginning to outweigh that. And now you have a commissioner that worked as our Asst. AD to make the pitch. If it doesn’t happen now, it never will.
Really excited about the future of the ACC with a solid core of Clemson, Notre Dame, North Carolina, and FSU as title contenders for the foreseeable future. Now, get rid of divisions.
they just need to surround Howell with some more dynamic weapons and then the Heels will be right there competing for championships
