The Paul Johnson saga comes full circle this weekend where his protege Bohannon with KSU is almost certainly going to beat our asses.
What are you feeling on Collins? Id still be willing to give him some more time as long as he doesnt completely tank this season but saturday had to be a step in the wrong direction. Also looking at the schedule KSU is pretty important in not starting 0-5.
Funny enough local paper just did a feature on Fagan. This part caught my eye, WTF Fagan had worn No. 4 on his jersey since his Pop Warner days. He was allowed to wear the number his freshman year, but as a sophomore when Willie Taggart became Florida State's new coach, they changed his jersey to No. 24. He pleaded with the staff for his number. Instead, no player wore No. 4 that year. "That really hurt me. I even cried in front of one of the coaches," Fagan said. "It was my dream to wear that number for that school, and they just said no to my face. I did nothing wrong. I'll never understand why they did that."
I try to be realistic with gt, we aren't going to be a juggernaut ever but it would be nice to run a normal program and maybe reach double digit wins every few seasons. Our schedule is impossible this season, our ceiling was 5 Ws. Now it's probably 3. It was a truly awful loss, we didn't look good anywhere and still aren't running an actual offense. Losing Sims didn't help but as others said he looked lost while he was in and I think many people think he is way better than he actually is. I can look past a lot of the weird stuff Collins does if he can recruit well and seemingly move us towards a normal program but we are years away and it will probably be the next guy that has some success.
I do vaguely remember Willie taking away single digit numbers from everyone one spring and having to earn it back, but I assumed everyone got them back since our team was full of shitheads in single digits.
You know how many teams reach double digit wins every few years? It isn't that many. Shit, in the last 65 years you guys have only done it 4 times.
“You have to earn single digit numbers” Murray number 8, DJ Williams number 7. Taggart was so far in over his head. Happy fagan found a home and is making it work. Sometimes you just need a new environment for the light bulb to click.
Not sure a game against USF is going to tell you much about evaluating DBs but glad he's happy up there
True, we'll find out this weekend though. He'll get plenty of action going up against a Mike Leach offense.
100% what will happen. Collins will recruit well, coach poorly, be fired in probably 4ish more seasons (counting this year) and the next guy will come in and be in a position to succeed.
even if I didn't hate GT already I think I'd be cheering for KSU anyway just for this it's their version of the turnover chain and it fucking owns
Hope somebody YouTube’s this interview with Jim Phillips during our game. He’s asked about the alliance and immediately goes “Let me just say, we still pray for the victims of the September 11th attacks.” Then proceeds to try to and explain The Alliance for five minutes and not once expresses any concrete purpose for it.
Also ACC Network advertising hitting new lows with “If you go in front of a train it will kill you” PSAs
He’s been there 8 years and there has maybe been 2-3 weeks total during that time where the program had any national juice. I think there were some top 20 games there during the Ryan Finley era. I have alums in my extended family that are just fine with him too, it’s like the mediocrity has seeped into their brain.
I get what your saying but lets not act like State has been a juggernaut ever in the last 40 years. We are a mediocre program other than like one year with a hall of fame QB. He basically wins 8+ games a year which is hard to do in college football consistently. Last night was super frustrating cause I thought we could finally take that step.
Friday UCF (-7.5) @ Louisville (7:30, ESPN) Saturday Virginia Tech @ West Virginia (-3) (noon, FS1) Michigan St @ Miami (-7) (noon, ABC) Western Michigan @ Pitt (-15) (noon, ESPN3) Albany @ Syracuse (noon, ACC) Boston College (-16) @ Temple (noon, ESPNU) Georgia Tech @ Clemson (-29) (3:30, ABC) FSU @ Wake Forest (-6) (3:30, ESPN) Northwestern (-2) @ Duke (4, ACC) Virginia @ North Carolina (-9) (7:30, ACC) Furman @ NC State (7:30, ESPN3)
we beat the entire state of Georgia by like 40 points yesterday and you nerds are acting surprised by a 9 point spread
I don’t think not having a great history is an excuse for not wanting better. You’re in a power 5 conference, good location, good facilities, fanbase that shows up, no in-state juggernaut that at you are competing against. I’ve just always seen potential at nc state. And let’s not act like he’s winning 8 tough games a year, the pack’s non conference scheduling is as weak as it gets. Serious question…does Doeren have 1 signature win in 8 years? I just don’t understand the apathy. I had season tickets for a few years after grad school, the atmosphere at Carter Finley is awesome. There are coaches that can win there.
