I was trying to park to go to Collins yesterday and you couldn't turn onto 22nd. Cops were blocking it between 1st and 2nd.
I live on 1st ave N and haven’t noticed much today. Granted, haven’t driven yet today but didn’t hear any movie explosions or anything.
Probably just backed up from people trying to get on 20. Morning news said it was just construction at the junction. Pictures looked awful.
Zimmern bigdicked us at brunch. I had a reservation for 11 at ovenbird. We knew they might be filming there. Got there at 11:02, told them about our reservation, and the manager sat us at a table in the middle of the restaurant. These two bitches sitting next to us were all made up and dressed like fucking idiots for a Saturday post-farmer’s market brunch. Lady Tegg knew one of them and said hello. She started frantically telling us she was mic’ed up and that Zimmern was supposed to sit at the table where they put us. We order our cocktails, and the girl dressed like an idiot gets up and walks toward the hostess stand. She comes back, and fifteen seconds later this huge cunt producer comes up accusing us of seating ourselves at Zimmern’s table and demanding we move. As the hostess was hurriedly rushing us to an outside table, Zimmern rolled in and took my table cool as a cucumber. Didn’t even acknowledge my presence. They moved us to the outside, around the corner area next to a super hungover couple in gym clothes. It was humiliating. We waited 20 minutes without the drinks we ordered inside before having to go inside and remind them that we’d been exiled to the kids’ table. The manager then waited on us and the food was great. Zimmern did say hello when he passed by us on his way back in after burning a cig in the parking lot, so he’s okay. But, the producer and the dumb tattletale cunt can get fucked.
Think I would have sent my bill either to zimmern and the uppity “mic’ed up” lady or would have just not paid it at all. That’s poor treatment. I’m mic’ed up might be one of the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard anyone say in Birmingham Can you describe what ridiculous dressed woman looked like? I want to laugh!
The Ovenbird people did make it right. They were very apologetic and comped all of our drinks (2 cocktails and a bottle of wine). The mic’ed up woman was wearing some kind of silk shorts, heels, a Seinfeld-style puffy shirt, and a Panama hat. Her friend had on a scarf tied around her neck like a fucking extra in Grease. When she said she was “mic’ed up” and showed us the microphone in her blouse, Lady Tegg thought she said “I ordered the duck” and reacted accordingly with a “cool story bro” look, which was pretty hilarious.
Don’t go if Andrew Zimmern is in town... It was hard to stay mad because the food was great and the bottle of wine was fantastic. It was noteworthy that Hastings never came by to apologize. If something like that happened at Fon Fon Frank Stitt would’ve given us equity in the restaurant.
He’s kind of a creep too. I’ve watched him openly hit on co-workers of mine, both of which were like 25.
Hastings sounds pretty cool. Who wouldn’t hit on 25 year olds? Also, what did you expect to happen, Tegg? You got all of your drinks comped and got a hello from the GOAT. I feel like this is a rant SWIM would have.
Well, he’s married for one. And has two kids that are the same age as the girls he was hitting on. It really isn’t an uncommon sentiment that people find him to be quite dick-ish.
I didn't expect anything. I don't know how you read that story to think I was complaining. I shared it because it was funny.
A while back, someone in here posted a hypothetical about what kind of establishment we’d open in Birmingham if we had the resources. My suggestion was a “classy” bowling alley establishment where you could get good food and cocktails somewhere downtown. It looks like my dream is getting closer to fruition with the upcoming opening of Woolworth Recreation and Refreshment in the Bailey Bros building in Five Points.
For the longest time I thought there was a lack of quality breakfast places. Higher end diner type establishments. But I guess a lot of other people recognized this same thing because we had 2 metro diners, 2 Big Bad Breakfast, Over Easy, First Watch and numerous others all come in over the last few years.
Bogue’s is our go to weekend breakfast spot. Not high end but their over easy eggs are near perfection every time. Coffee is always on point. Their service can get overwhelmed at times but it’s worth the wait. Great meat and three during the week too. Love that place.
