Jesus, you aren't kidding. Just looked at the 15 day forecast and it says thunderstorms every day through July 24. Love that muddy humidity, baby!
Since when are you a Birmingham Thread approved weather source? I only take my weather advice from One Two
Also I'm going to proceed believing this is related to the few weather posts I've made in here and not that this is an offhand "I know you IRL" admission
Anybody seen Grapefruit Topo Chico in greater Birmingham? I've already been to a Mi Pueblo and two Britos
i've been a bunch. it's a lot of fun. a little skeptical of how enjoyable it will be with that many people tho.
ironically their weekend crowd actually gets super fratty, similar to the way parkside can be on a friday. but yeah i would imagine for that sloss pre party it will be more of their weekday hipster critters.
The only time I've been on a weekend, it was my brother and I, and we came from Parkside. We probably contributed to the super frattiness.
I go all the time. I definitely like it more on the weeknights than the weekend. I'm not a hipster but you can drink cheap beer and throw darts.
Also Back 40 brewery near sloss is amazing. Good beer, good food. I'm sure it will be a total shitshow this weekend but I went yesterday and really enjoyed it.
Fried chicken sandwich. Also at the table we got wings, lamb burger and charcuterie. Also tried 2 of the desserts, that lemon ice box was great. The regular burger and the pulled pork looked amazing.
RE: El Zun Zun...it's going to be awesome. I know Becky Satterfield reasonably well, and she's a super researcher with anything. This concept is going to be awesome. Can't wait.
The El Zun Zun convo just reminded me. A couple of weeks ago we tried out Tropicaleo for the first time. My wife asked if they had anything "similar to al pastor" tacos. They get an attitude and started lecturing about how it's not Puerto Rican food. Told them it was everywhere in San Juan. They told us we must have just gone to tourist traps then. So I then told them I would have "the very Puerto Rican hummus and the definitely not Italian bruschetta". Fuck them.
They haven't been able to get any traction in town, and it's surely because of the bitchiness. The Cuban place downtown is as good, and the people are chill.
I wasn't either until I discovered the "hazy" style and now I'm hooked on that stuff. Also like the unfiltered and the dry hopped stuff
Whats going on fellas - I'm in town for a wedding. A group of us have a reservation at Ocean tonight; any recommendations?
I'd recommend pre gaming with a few beers and shots at Innis free and then heading next door to Nana Funks around 11pm. If you've still got any gas left in the tank around 1am head on over to the Furnace. You can kill that hangover tomorrow with a number 5 from Milos for lunch. I'd recommend the peach pie
At Ocean the grilled Lobster is good stuff. It’s not on the menu. Blue Monkey and J Clyde are close by and pretty cool. Head to Lakeview after.
Downtown I love Atomic and Collins, our two cocktail bars but they can get pretty crowded late at night and aren't very big. Carrigan's has pretty good drinks and good beer and should be an easy crowd pleaser. I don't know how old you are but Lakeview can be fun. Innisfree, Tin Roof, Sidebar can be good but they are definitely more college age to 25.
In al Best bar in Lakeview is Oasis in my opinion but I'm also 32 years old. Avondale is another good area, specifically park side and Brown Derby, emphasis on the latter for an awesome dive bar later in the evening. Are either of the people getting married from Mtn Brook? If so a lot of this is null and void bc you will be at Oteys at some point
Post wedding will be Brown Derby most likely. I love Oasis but they got rid of my cheap Stella pitchers in the back and don't honor my membership card anymore.
Best bars in the area are Otey's, Dram, La Paz, and Billy's in English Village. Anywhere else is garbage.
