Phenomenal choice. We got a few of those grilled lobster tails for appetizers. I ended up getting a few sushi rolls - they were on the same tier as Chucks IMO (then again having gone to school at UA and moving outside of the state, I find chucks totally over rated)

Hilariously ironic, because we had to go to Otey’s to meet the wedding party post rehearsal...might as well of been back at The Booth. Anyway, we moved on and met some friends at Saturn. Lots of cruchy brahs in town for sloss..

It actually wasn't bad. Kind of the right level of crowded where you could still easily get drinks.

That's my best guess as well. It sure was nice though because I couldn't get enough service to pull up my tickets on my phone to get in.

It was a rookie mistake on my part to not have them pulled up long before I got to the venue like I normally do with any tickets.

That said, I wonder if they'll try to scan tickets today or just keep on keepin' on.

Got there around 4:00, people watched and mingled for a couple hours before being herded under the overpass, despite it not raining. Stuck around there for about 45min before packing it in and heading home.

Spent way too much money relative to the amount of music I heard and fun I had. 1.5 stars would not do again. Line up was iffy to begin with, doubt I’ll go again next year.

Hopefully this clusterfuck of a weekend is enough for them to reevaluate the festival a bit. Not sure what you can do to avoid the weather situation but moving it up a few months might help a lot. I'd say move it back in the calendar some but football season reigns supreme 'round here.

They should really do it in May. But you have a lot of other fests happening nearby. 420fest late April, Bonnaroo early june, Hangout in May. Plus like one or 2 more Atlanta fests. And Slicefest usually around then as well. I get why they put it in July but it's just a horrible time for it.

Cask and Drum was fun the one year I went, but both Auburn and Alabama had games that day, so a bunch of people were either at the TV tent or on their phones.

Agreed. That said, aside from Hangout, I just don't know how much any of those other festivals would pull people away from SlossFest. I haven't seen any stats or anything but my own personal assessment from this Saturday was that at least 50% of the crowd was 19 and under. Seemed like ton of local high school kids (who should get off my lawn).

If only there was another Birmingham Music Festival that could have predicted these issues. Like one where they put the stages in the city.

Another thing i was disappointed in at Slossfest was the lack of local vendors’ presence. That’s probably due to the fact the event has grown to the point where confessions are bid out, but I wish there would’ve been a bigger local food and beer selection.

The same company that runs Bonnaroo started Slossfest. AC/Superfly, if I'm not mistaken. A lot of these fests have radius clauses for bigger acts. Meaning they can't perform within a certain area however many days before and after the fest.

Sure, but it's still something to consider. People aren't going to both if they're the same weekend, and if SlossFest wanted to do that they'd crush Slicefest, but that's not good PR for SlossFest and would create some community resentment, from those business at the very least.

Thanks. Yeah, nothing major. Small gash above her eyebrow that could’ve used a stitch, but we butterflied. Lots of blood when it happened. Pretty bad black eye and some nasty road rash on her ankle and leg. We were coming down a hill and she panicked heading towards the intersection and layed the bike down.

Anyone know a good handyman/HVAC guy? My house isn’t cooling like we want it to. Home warranty company sent people who told us our AC units are fine. Need to know if it’s my insulation, windows, or ductwork (or if the home warranty people were wrong).

When’s the last time you changed your filters?

This is what happened to me. I moved into a house last August and forgot to change the filters for a few months. After having an AC guy come out and top my Freon off and tell me everything looked fine he told me to look at the filters. Solid inch and a half of dust and dog hair was coating it. Not sure how long it had been in there before I moved in but we saw a noticeable difference immediately after we changed them. He recommended that we change them once a month for the next 3 months to play catch up.

Yeah it seems to be a trend around here unless the house has been flipped recently. Got one quote to replace them at $16k

My friend owns Thermaguard, a local window installer. I recently had him out to quote the windows at our house and I knew I was in trouble when they both pulled up in a brand new F250 and Chevy 2500.
That being said, my quote was significantly lower than yours, albeit mine was only quoting 12 windows.

Yeah, I think ours is 20 windows and some extra work because of the way they are framed (there’s a word for this but I forgot). Plus the wife wants some of the better options. I had a couple of friends tell me it’s not a bad price for what we need done. But damn I don’t want to bite that bullet yet.

I'm guessing your house is pre 1960 like mine (1927 here). Those windows are expensive bc they were made before things were somewhat standardized and it all has to be custom.

That being said is this the first time the AC hasn't been as efficient? Could be insulation issues of not cause I'm sure you know old homes aren't very energy friendly if they aren't insulated to hell and back.

I've got an AC contact I can PM you if you need it

This is what I need someone to look at. The ceiling of the attic itself isn’t insulated, just the floor (and the insulation looks ancient). I’ve found mixed opinions online of how hot air needs to escape so you don’t want to insulate everything up there. I also have turbine vents on the roof and don’t know how those affect things. I might need to take this to the Homeowners thread.
