I don’t know how it is on other nights of the week, but we went to Carrigan’s with another couple after dinner and all thought it was lame.
went to back forty for the first time the other night. beer was meh but goddamn i was really impressed with their food.
Back 40 is awesome. It dawned on me the other day that is is very close to lakeview and you don't have to dick around near avondale and go the back way to get there. Food is exceptional.
hmmm i'll have to try that then. i've never really liked their beers but the other night was the first time i tried something outside the truck stop honey/naked pig.
Rojo and Saws are pretty damn awesome. Also the Civil Rights Institute is really impressive. i was only in Birmingham for a day but I enjoyed it a lot.
The Civil Rights Institute near the federal courthouse? Used to work at the courthouse but never made it over to the museum because I was a "busy student." How was it? Think I may take the fiancee some time soon given that we're both new residents here. Nothing against her whatsoever, but I doubt she really knows much about the 16th Street Bombing. Really want to get down to EJI's Museum and Memorial in Montgomery. Have a lot of respect for Bryan Stevenson, but I imagine it being extremely intense (and rightfully so):
I thought it was really interesting. I knew a fair bit about the civil rights movement beforehand but I learned a lot and the exhibits were really moving. I liked the exhibit on the freedom rides because I didn’t know much about them beforehand. It’s worth a visit for sure.
Happy New Year's Eve Hope everyone's tuxedos are freshly pressed for the midnight champagne toast at Innis Free
Tried to go see “they shall not grow old” last week and it was sold out. Wanted to go see it today and it’s not playing anywhere in the metro. Sweet.
Very excited to take an Uber from 5 points Waffle House to Irondale Waffle House because 5 points will be a total fucking disaster.
Nah it was the fairly standard crowd and they were handing out champagne and NYE party favors. We had low expectations since it was a last minute plan but the wife was pretty happy about it.
I'm excited it's supposed to rain tonight so I can have a semi excuse to skip the NYE clusterfuck and stay in. I am definitely, 100%, not going to Trotline at Zydeco. If anyone tells you differently they are lying. I promise. Haha
This reminds me I need to Venmo you for my ticket. Still can't believe how cheap you got them in the fan club pre-sale.
Heard a BMR ad for a bar crawl that’s like $10 bucks for the first bar and $5 for each bar after; Atomic, paper doll, queens park (I think) and some others...but not sure if that gets you anything other than in the door. For that price it’s probably just to get in. Rain definitely impacting my motivation to get out.
Rain is supposed to die off later. I have no desire to leave the house but I remembered my wife saying something about a dress she bought would be perfect for New Years. So now I’m fucked.
Oasis, 41st St are good options. I'm going to the fucking Woolworth which will suck. Hopefully can leave that by 10 and get somewhere else. Marty's till super later obviously.
mal630 and DaveGrohl What did y'all end up doing last night and how was it? Edit: Mal how was the Woolworth?
Went to Freddy's Wine Bar because the wife wanted to be classy. Ate a large charcuterie board by myself. Made best friends with some strangers that sat with us. 8/10 - good night. oh, and the uber from Freddy's to Crestline Park was $40
Woolworth really sucked at the beginning. Started clearing out a bit and they opened the roof top which was nice. We stayed till midnight then went to Marty’s. I decided after non stop double gin and tonics I needed edibles at midnight and don’t remember much from Marty’s.
Definitely a place that looks cool on instagram. Painted Pin, Pinewood Social, etc. do it better. Usually a bunch of kids there. It doesn't completely suck just not what I wanted for NYE.
