Any news on when the BBQ joint is opening in Avondale? I've been hyping that for a while, figured it would be open by now.
Sent the BFF to Western in Mountain Brook to load up on wine. She says it's chaos and there's Lululemon everywhere.
Anyone been to the new BBQ place in Homewood where Urban Cookhouse used to be? It's right at the intersection of 18th St and 29th Ave in downtown Homewood. Coworker went and didn't like it but I've yet to try. I think the name is Mark's Joint BBQ.
Went to Saw’s Juke Joint at halftime of the Saints game to get some wings and beers by the fire place for the second half. Of all places to be closed on Sunday, why that one? IMO that’s an odd business decision, but maybe I’m overhyping Saw’s.
Mafioza’s is your best option for Sundays in the area. They have 1/2 price apps and dollar off drafts and their wings are really good.
I was in a FF league with the owner of Saws one year. Only time I met him was at the draft. If I remember the story correctly opening Sunday after a late Saturday night was always a mess. It wasn't worth the headache.
^^^This, except i think it’s $300k+ per day. They’ll finish before deadline. This is similar to that fire under the overpass in ATL a couple years ago. Similar contract and they finished well before their deadline.
Currently or are we talking once the closure begins? If now, I-20 to 20-59 through downtown. If after closure, I-20 onto 459 near McCalla and going through Hoover and then towards Trussville.
Yay Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey calls for gas tax, new prisons https://www.al.com/news/2019/01/alabama-gov-kay-ivey-calls-for-gas-tax-new-prisons.html
More upset about the prisons than the gas tax, although we all know that the money for infrastructure could come from somewhere else. But it is humorous that her base is firmly in the “democrats will raise taxes” camp and are now being surprised by this because Dementia Debbie refused to debate.
I agree, but my understanding is that everything about the state government is underfunded so any tax increase can potentially help. I love how Republicans in their second term are pro-tax increases. EDIT: Bentley did the same thing.
Are there any groups actively advocating for a lottery these days? Where does that and sports gambling stand?
Go ahead and legalize cannabis while you’re at it. Seriously, what kind of revenue would that create for the state? Legalizing lottery, gambling, and pot all in one fell swoop.
Lottery, weed, and gambling. Tax it. Alabama becomes a utopia. Would love some legal weed with our lakes and beaches.
Candidates on both sides are talking about the lottery. I'll believe it when I see it. We have to get about the worst return on our sales and income taxes in the country. I feel like I bottom out on major expressways routinely. We are last or close to it in education. At least sell beer on fucking Sundays and let me buy scratch offs. In Nashville the liquor stores are open on Sundays and you can buy liquor and have it delivered to your house through an app!
RSA wants legalized Gambling and Weed in Alabama. They realized all the synergies from turning all their hotels into casinos and weed stores.
I know a guy who has been selling weed here for years. This state could use some more progressive businessmen like him.
Yeah, I was a little surprised the RSA went public with their position like they did. The Indians and Mississippians are still much larger influence and it’s years away but was glad to see an organization with some clout take a stand for personal liberties. I just wish the RSA would have done it while they owned Raycom and could have plastered the pro-position on every station they owned in Alabama.

Great news for the colony of drifters that live under the bridge and already walk around brown bagging whiskey bottles all day
I’m guessing the police will have a heavy presence early specifically to deter that if they want it to survive.
