Hadn’t heard anything about it until I got a random email, but Shovels and Rope + Frank Turner are playing at Avondale on 4/26.
Non profit event season is upon us, with a couple more good events coming up this weekend and next. This Saturday from 11a-2p at Railroad Park, is the Girls Inc Cajun Cookoff. One of my coworkers is on their board, so our company sponsored a team, last year when another team dropped out at the last minute. We the won top prize and we’ll be looking to defend our crown this weekend. I’ll be helping this year and need to be there at 6a. Going to be a long Saturday because I’d love to head over to Cahaba Que afterwards, which goes from 1:00-5:00p. Y’all come out to the Cajun Cookoff if you’re looking to do something in the morning. Lots of really good food, zydeco music, stuff for kids, silent auction and weather should be nice in the morning. Kids under 12 free. Adults $25.
Oh, and in 2 wks (4/13) is the best value of all the events in Birmingham. Wing Ding in front of Vestavia City Hall. Kids free adults only $5. All you can eat wings, beer provided by Back Forty, and stuff for the kids. I think this benefits CF.
Any of you guys go to Automatic Seafood yet? I went last night and thought it was pretty good. Didn't really get a bang for your buck on the appetizers but the entrees and sides we had were very good. Cool atmosphere.
Someone tell me more about Marty's PM in Irondale, please. Didn't even know this was a thing until quite recently. Of course, my drunken late night loyalty lies with Bourbon Street but I've always liked Marty's in Southside and I'm happy to know there's a closer location (to Crestline Park/Crestwood/Crestline).
I think the one in Irondale is Marty's GM. I've not been, but I think it's more geared to normal hours. I love the Southside Marty's.
I haven't been in a month or 2, but it is more of a restaurant than Marty's PM. They close more at 11-12pm than 7am. I would definitely recommend going to dinner or happy hour sometime. The burgers are really good and they have a good bar.
We talked about Automatic a while back. It’s the chef from the Optimist in Atlanta. Haven’t been but I’m excited for it.
We went tuesday and loved it. Great selection of oysters. Homemade hot sauce. Mahi was cooked perfectly. The field pea side dish is delightful. The design is awesomely posh, Seriously pleasing to the eye. It's obvious how much time and thought they put into every aspect. They were still hammering out some of the service aspects. Great experience, two talented hard working people. Looking forward to the oyster bar experience.
I went Wednesday. I was very pleased. Service has some issues but was very impressed with the food. Whole fish was excellent. I’ll add it to the rotation with frank stitt’s restaurants and dos hermanos.
Anyone checking out Trim Tab's 5th Anniversary this weekend? Noon bottle releases are annoying, hopefully there's still some around later tonight.
There will be long stretches of what seems like months where there is nothing happening on the weekends in Birmingham. Then you get to March, April, May and there are 5+ events every Saturday. Yeah, I get it, Spring weather is nice.
I guess in the Fall everything revolves around football games, Then it’s holiday stuff and then nobody leaves their house in January/February. And a lot of vacation time in the summer with people out of town.
Wedding szn Also thanks for the Automatic recommendation. Made a reservation for next Friday so the wife is pretty happy about being all bham trendy.
I get so uncomfortable when I'm in the car with someone else and they are cruising in the left lane going at or just over the speed limit and they start to complain because someone is riding their ass. I immediately find myself siding with the person riding their ass and want to yank the car into the right lane
So I had Great Wall for lunch. And learned that their Szechuan chicken is real Szechuan chicken, wth nothing but Chicken, onions, garlic, ginger, and hot ass peppers. There is a 99% chance today is the day I shit my pants at work
i believe it's BudKilmer who introduced me to the term "pro birth, not pro life" fits this state extremely well
Optimistic but still skeptical. They approved (6-4) a similar bill last year that didn't survive. Hopefully this one getting approved 11-0 bodes well for it in the future.
Yeah I’m supposed to go on a bumble date tonight (cool brag, I know) and debating on whether to reschedule so storm analysis is welcome
Tornado sex bruh There is some disagreement on timing. Previous thinking was mine line wouldn't reach I65 until 9-10pm time frame, looks like it could be earlier, like 7-8pm earlier. Most ripe tornado environment will be southwest of here, but none the less Be weather aware Have a plan Respect the polygon
Lol Well it’s just drinks, so if there was a legit tornado warning I would prefer to just do it on Sunday or something. But, point taken.
And risk meeting one of you freaks irl? Fat chance Nah actually I would’ve done that but she suggested carrigan’s (maybe a red flag) and I didn’t wanna be stubborn so went along with it
