They're showing a #LivePD chase in Jefferson County. Pursuit near Center Point. edit: nm, from November 2nd.
was sitting around listening to Bully earlier and wondering when I might be able to see them again they're playing in Bham tomorrow at Moonstone Festival. What a cool lineup for a small festival
And we’re getting a rate increase. We’re no different than water works in other cities. NYC ww is $30B in debt, Atlanta $3B, Nashville $892MM. It’s expensive to maintain a city’s water infrastructure.
Lets throw another couple mill and not have the water works building filled with total incompetence. I'm sure everyone has had an awful experience, but I had a time that my apartment water bill which was usually 40 bucks was 700. Took months to sort out.
I’m not excusing the incompetence at the BWW. I was surprised that other cities’ water works all ran at deficits as well.
Yes public utilities are generally heavily debt laden. Constantly having to maintain and build large depreciable assets is expensive as shit.
https://www.al.com/news/birmingham/...untain-brook-was-selfless-servant-leader.html It’s crazy. They were married in Feb of ‘18, shoots her a first time a year later, and then finishes off the job less then 2yrs after getting married. Damned shame he was let out the first time.
Tragic and sad story. I met and got to know her a little bit because she volunteered at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society with the Mrs. I don’t know much about the circumstances or the rest of the story but she was always friendly and welcoming towards me in the limited social interactions we had. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat animals. I think anyone who freely donates their time and money for the benefit of animals is worthy of some respect and admiration. Just a terrible, wasteful loss.
yeah...she was very open and candid about their relationship/his abuse and posted a lot of content about it on social media. (Part of the reason I’m inclined to discuss it now) The guy is mentally ill, a danger to himself and obviously a danger to others and society. He should of been in a secure mental hospital/ prison cell etc...
On a completely unrelated and lighter note; played (and won) a four ball match with the aptly named Long Ball Larry a few weeks ago and can verify multiple 300+ drives. Let the record show he can poke it out there. Forgot to mention it at the time.
Her father is Johnny IronMan Montgomery. I'm not from here so I didn't recoginzie him but he's a well known realtor around Vestavia/Homewood. (Per my wife) Her and her husband were also on House Hunters in 2016 which would just be a macabre thing to watch now.
I haven't been in awhile. My wife hates my record collection. I've probably only been a few times since Jimmy and the pricer guy in the back era. You would have thought that if they were gonna fold it would have been 15-20 years ago when the digital downloads took over instead of in the middle of this vinyl revival. Seasick seems to be doing well.
The Saturn is a great venue. First time there a couple weekends ago and was really impressed. Best small venue I have been in in a long time.
True story: I live right by Seasick...and have never been in. AMA. Also...there's a new indy bookstore between the pharmacy and Subway in Shoppes of Crestwood (or whatever we call it now where the Filling Station is): one of the owners is a neighbor. It will have everything from kids to adults. Went in tonight. Much better than expected, but shouldn't have doubted my friend...very good person and great writer (she's had a book on the NYT book review, etc., best new book of 2017). Go check it out and send your friends.
Going to be back in town after moving about two years ago. We would like to go check out a new place to eat. We haven’t been out in Birmingham in the last year or so. Anywhere new that we definitely need to check out?
Just because something becomes more popular doesn’t make it more profitable. I would guess that they used to be able to get used/unsold records cheap, but now that there is demand and competition their margins are far lower.
well they're about to move shopping centers (going into the one where mom's/sheppard's pet supply is) so stop by while it's convenient! i noticed the bookstore the other day. will check it out.
Yeah I was basically referring to the fact that they survived selling mainly vinyl through the cassette, CD and digital download eras but are now folding in the middle of the vinyl revival.
Records today cost about $30 on average. $4 in 1980 (the going price for vinyl around then according to my mom) would be equivalent to the purchasing power of $12.04 according to the CPI. Seems that they probably have gotten more profitable, notwithstanding popularity or differences in quality.
I enjoy Saturn a lot, as it has good line of sight to the stage, pretty good sound, pulls bands that in other cities would go to a bigger room like Iron City, has cool staff, has easy to access bartenders, and has an awesome/unique green room. But fuck they need to figure their sound out, as that place is loud as shit and causes hearing damage. Fortunately, when I forget my own ear plugs, the bartender in the music room has a goldfish bowl full of plastic earplugs.
Romeos just left, didn’t know Seasick is moving too. Did rent go up in that shopping center or are stores just expanding?
Moved to Vestavia, which makes sense given their target baseball crowd, just curious bc location hasn’t been an issue before for them (I’m assuming this bc they’ve been there forever)
