It was great when it first opened but I’ve been on a heater of bad experiences there and it’s currently in free fall on the DriveByBbq Bham venue power rankings. Why do you hate it?
well the staff usually sucks, but it's mostly how stale and corporate the whole place is. also the last time i was in there they charged me for water and also had a $10 minimum on cards. so fuck all that.
Not who you asked but I hate that layout - one way in and out walking past the bar is always a clusterfuck.
Yes, the ingress/egress at Iron City are less than ideal. Also, fuck their ridiculous pat-downs and security.
The show I saw was damn near perfect sound. Not crazy loud and I was right by the stage right stacks.
yeah i can't say i agree with the sound complaint. saturn's one of the best venues i've ever been to in that regard.
My ears were ringing like a motherfucker the entire next day after one of the truckers shows at Saturn a couple years ago. Permanent hearing loss isn’t cool. Found out after the show there’s a gum ball machine with ear plugs somewhere in the building. Maybe just turn the shit down?
It's not necessarily a complaint about the quality of the sound but rather how loud it is and how the sound reverberates off the brick walls. There's sound absorbing foam up on the walls to help prevent this, so I don't think I'm alone in this. I will say that I do have hearing issues after a lifetime of loud concerts. I've been to several shows at Saturn where, if not for ear plugs, I would have had to leave because it was so loud. Boombox and Jimmy Herring come to mind. On the other hand, Perpetual Groove a few weeks ago wasn't all that bad. Probably has to do with whoever they have running sound that night There are free ear plugs behind the bar that's in the music room. Just have to ask for them
Be happy you're not noticing these things, but also be mindful of the permanent damage that also may be occurring. When I was younger, I had no problem standing next to speaker stacks. Nowadays, it's gotten to the point where I've even been at outdoor festivals and left because of how loud their speaker stacks are (and because the Killers suck)
Sooooo my in-laws are members at The Club now and we are going to the "Jingle Bell Buffet"...this isn't really my scene, but wanted to see if any of you 1%ers had been and can tell me what to eat. Spoiler can't drink much because kids
The Club is a neat spot because of the view and it's a cool building, but the food isn't anything to get worked up about.
Yeah, I know, but I figured one of you expense account people might have gone to this and could let me know what to eat
The olives in the martinis Thursday night were salty and delicious. Haven’t had a proper meal there in several years, but I generally investigate the prime rib station first and work back from there.
We went to Abhi and Carrigans the other night. (the new Avo/Dram) Abhi had some pretty good sushi and had a martini at Carrigans. It was a good time.
Never done Abhi (MB or Summit locations) but do Bamboo on 2nd a good bit and enjoy it. Supposedly same ownership
Love Abhi at the Summit. Yet to try the new MB Village location. Summit location always has tables open and the food is just as good as Bamboo so we default there. The new outdoor patio area at The Club is great. Much better than before.
If you guys use instagift they have their gift cards on sale right now. I bought Paramount, El Barrio, Crestline bagel. Some places have really dumb red tape, but El Barrio and Crestline bagel definitely do not as I have bought them before. El Barrio is spend 50 to get 70, most work out to a 20-30% discount. On black Friday I bought Bongiorno 12.50 to get $25. Seems like a good deal but you have to spend $75 to use it which sucks.
Didn't a restaurant called Walk On's recently open? I remember SVP and Russilo talking about the one in Baton Rouge when they'd visit for big games. Curious if anyone's tried it yet.
What’s up my dudes - driving over from Atlanta this weekend to visit my brother and sister-in-law, think they live in the Mountaindale. Anything going on this weekend? Ideas on things to do? From Mobile, but really don’t know Birmingham well at all
Lol - went to Oteys with my cousins over Thanksgiving and literally every guy had a Barbour Jacket on
Next time ask one of them if they are wes tegg theres a 93% chance it’s him or he hears you ask the question.
I live right off Mountaindale. Didn't realize they lived so close. I would imagine everywhere you go would be pretty busy. Avondale is close and has a lot of options.
Don’t have your number any more. Think we’re going to cook on the Egg one day, you should stop for a minute. Am sure BF would love to see ya
I’m somewhat of a Unicorn...have never owned or had the pleasure of wearing the uniform. Sensing some defensiveness Mr wes tegg
I heard you’re not a true Mobilian unless you were conceived under a magnolia tree during Mardi Gras.
I was in Atlanta for work a couple weeks ago. Sat at the bar talking to bartender. Him: Where are you from Me: Birmingham Him: Alabama, Do you know people from Mobile? Me: Yeah a bunch Him: Do they talk about anything other than inventing Mardi Gras? Other guy not in the conversation: They are the worst.
It’s mostly the UMS (I’m an alum) and St. Paul’s crew that gives us the bad rap....and it’s always a few people that unfortunately come to mind who are not the best representatives. Most of my friends do not talk about Mardi Gras incessantly. That said I don’t expect to change hearts and minds on TMB so let the beatings continue
