I would probably give Back Forty a C on beer, but I must admit, I don’t mind a Bama Mosa in the morning sometimes. I like how Cahaba didn’t even warrant a ranking too.
Honestly now that Avondale isn’t selling bong water anymore all the breweries have good beer, before good people bought them it was basically just a cool venue
Underrated Birmingham experience, having a meeting or working at an O’Henry’s, then when you shower that evening you smell like wonderful coffee.
Wife and I went for the anniversary recently. I had never been but was pleasantly surprised. Not the best atmosphere in there, but I really enjoyed the food and service.
Atmosphere is the worst part about it, need to switch from classical music to jazz and turn down the volume I imagine eating with classical music that loud it what it’s like to be a Bond villain
Yeah, it’s a bit stuffy for this day and age. I honestly thought it was gonna be all blue hairs in there but there were young couples too.
o'henry's has pretty crappy coffee imo i only get it in a pinch. but it could just be that the one in highland park sucks and other locations are better idk
The addition of HotBox to Good People is incredible. Just wish it wasn't on that side of town the parking was a little better.
Hot diggity dog was OK but the bar next door was fucking terrible. Was basically a place for girls to take instagram pics, the drinks didn't hold a candle to any other bar in town. Hopefully Ferus is good in the Fancy's on 5th space. I've been to the Trussville one once and it was good.
TrimTab is still probably the best brewery in Bham but they also love the smell of their own shit. Half the tiki beers taste the same, Flotation Device was sweet kool-aid nonsense. They peaked when they were still selling the gallery series beers. Now they just churn out as much as they can with less regard for quality. In the opposite, Ghost Train was very up and down when they first kicked off and had some real quality control issues. I think 3 or so years ago one of the guys from TT left and when to GT and every since their beer has been steadily rising and has a better hit rate than TrimTab. Don't fucking @me
Some guy was trying to explain to me how Ghost Train makes their sours the “real way” that you are supposed to while Trim Tab does it the short-cut route. I don’t know enough about the beer fermentation process to know what the fuck he was talking about, but I found it interesting. I’m just a “this tastes good/this tastes bad” simpleton.
You're just blinded by Birmingham jingoism. Listen I still said they're probably the best, but a lot of that is based on past production. Their highs are still very high. But their lows are bottom of the barrel trash water. They stopped putting thought into what they're doing. Every beer they make is to look marketable on Instagram. It's kinda pathetic.
I have a really neat trick where I put a crowd members dick in a box and make it disappear. So far I've only lost one, sorry Snakes .
I am shocked our resident Shelby County poster is agreeing with a Mobilian’s take on Birmingham beer.
I've been in Birmingham more recently than Mobile. And I'm also not stanning bay area beer. It's largely trash or average. Big Beach down in OB was the best by the time I left. Braided River was on the up and up.
Oh I see now. We have a bunch of sour and fruity beer drinkers in this thread. That explains the love for Trim Tab. Yeah I bet it still blows.
Have you ever had a Sour from the Jolly Pumpkin Brewery? Do you think the shit Trim Tab makes holds a candle any of their offering? Suck my dick
I've been in here saying TT is overrated idk read the thread. I've had sours from Southern Grist to Aslin to Parish to Bottle Logic and a hundred places in between. Trim Tab's Gallery Series 002 is the best guava beer I've ever had and shits all over anything they've made in the past couple years.
I'm just fucking with you guys anyway. If you like Trim Tab and think it is the best brewery in town I'm not going to argue about it. Back when I worked at BBVA we used to hit up a lot of the breweries after work. This was back when Cahaba was in the space that Ghost Train has now and pre renovated Good People. At this point I think Trim Tab only had the Raspberry Berliner, a Black IPA, and a couple of other offerings on tap. While the Black IPA was pretty good, their other offerings were fucking horrible. Of course this was 7 - 8 years ago, but that is what I based my opinion on. Now I have had a Stout Collab they did with Hero's Doughnuts and a couple of their Special Release (D)IPAs that were really good.
My friend wants to stay here.. Is this a horrific area? Again all we are doing is playing golf and going to dinner. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/449425...1631821462_ByoVjbPcEIo0tZdy&guests=1&adults=1
