I have a guy I go on trips with and play golf with all the time. We don't mind spending money. Two other guys just come like once a year and are a bit tight. One of them sent me this and I was like uhhhh let me check on it.
The AirBnB is next to the "Samuel Puccio" place in the bottom right corner: Aspen Run is a Highland Park par 4 away. https://abc3340.com/news/local/susp...on-shot-at-aspen-run-apartments-in-birmingham https://www.al.com/news/birmingham/...shooting-at-birmingham-apartment-complex.html https://www.wvtm13.com/article/death-investigation-underway-in-birmingham/29384570 https://www.al.com/news/birmingham/2016/09/birmingham_man_sentenced_in_st.html https://www.al.com/news/birmingham/2018/06/double_shooting_leaves_one_dea.html
I will agree with whoever made fun of TrimTab’s labeling for all these one off beers. This one with the fucking Ayn Rand quote lol
Have reservations at Helen and Automatic the Friday and Saturday I'm coming in October. About 50/50 I can convince my friends to actually eat at both places.
There are other good cheaper alternatives but they don't take reservations. El Barrio, Bamboo on 2nd, East West, Paramount
Helen order: Smoked Fish dip Biscuits Snapper Ribeye Potatoes Okra Cheesecake best dining experience I have had in 2+ years. Holy shit those biscuits are incredible.
It sounds like your friends are going to be eating at Arby’s. You should definitely eat at Helen and Automatic with your non cheap friend. Stay in one of the areas that was recommended in this thread and veto your cheap ass friends.
I ended up just using my hyatt points and staying in Hoover. driving into town for dinners isn't an issue. Think my people are on board for the restaurants.
If you aren't super far from it Walk-On's is an awesome sports bar. It is a chain but I would go there all the time if it wasn't in Hoover.
It's owned by Drew Brees I think, bunch of TV's, Louisiana-ish food but also a bunch of normal stuff. Beer taps at the table so you can pour your own beers.
You had me at tvs and Louisiana-ish food. One of my friends doesn't eat any seafood or beef. Automatic is kind of a stretch. If that doesn't work this seems like a great place to watch football Saturday night.
Beyond Van Gogh coming to Bham in November if any of you are interested. https://vangoghbirmingham.com/
Walk-Ons isn’t convenient to me so I’ve only been once. But I really enjoyed it. I got some sort of fried catfish smothered in etouffe and it was pretty solid as far as bar food goes. TV and beer situation is great and they have the tables with built in taps if you wanna do that.
Assuming you are at the Galleria Hyatt, you’re 15-20 minutes away from Helen (mostly interstate) and another 5-10 of city traffic away from Automatic
if your friends even considered that awful fucking hostel airbnb then they can't afford automatic or helen.
Did the one behind the galleria close when they opened Vestavia? Also I think there is one of those knockoff Hooters places out there too.
Yeah twin peaks is right there. Awful place but their food is above average for one of those establishments.
I would think both Automatic and Helen have some pretty great vegan options. Especially Helen, their sides and small plates are awesome.
that dish is actually excellent too. Went with a similarly close minded to seafood family member and they let me try it. Delicious.
Yea the guy can eat chicken one night and veggies the other. What's the move at automatic? Gulf shrimp fried rice sounds amazing. Getting a steak at Helen for sure.
Automatic really doesn't miss. I had a whole fish special there that is one of my top 10 all time meals.
I'm probably going crispy grouper collars and either the ribeye or Kansas city strip at Helen. I'm not even going for a month and have trips to the panhandle and Biloxi between now and then but I'm having a great time planning this out. Great thread you guys have here. All very much appreciated.
This guy has literally 15 people curating an entire trip for him and his pals. Well done, It'sAlwaysSunnyInAthens.
