the 4-7pm storms are going to be developing right on top of bham those are the ones that will carry the most risk
the analogs (basically, when the weather is set up similarly with past events) point to april 27 2011 as having similar dew points and synoptic patterns still not convinced though. think we'll get a nice low rolling thunder storm in the morning and then small strong cellular storms in the afternoon that will be short and popcorn
Is it supposed to get bad this afternoon? I had to come to work today but they saying we might be leaving early this afternoon? I'm not seeing it on the radar.
I came in, but my boss is worried about the atmosphere warming back up, creating instability. Also thinking about letting out early. What's up Swim Cantore?
*If the sun is shining where you are, the severe weather risk is NOT over. It will simply help in the destabilization process. *The tornado watch is being cleared for some counties in Central and West Alabama, but another watch is likely within a few hours that will carry us through the afternoon and evening hours. *SPC is considering an upgrade to “high risk” for parts of East Alabama on their new outlook due shortly. But, that isn’t all that important. The impact we have been forecasting is the same. *A few supercell storms are likely this afternoon over the eastern two-thirds of Alabama; all modes of severe weather are possible, including large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. *A few strong/violent, long track tornadoes are possible over the eastern half of the state this afternoon and into the evening hours. *The threat of severe storms will end in Tuscaloosa around 3:00… Birmingham around 4:30… and Anniston/Gadsden around 7:00.
That line of hail that came through around 5:30 was brutal. wes tegg did you see RR on the news? His house in Cahaba Hts was crushed by a huge tree. They took cover minutes before and all are fine, but their house is fucked.
Yeah, I saw that. Wild. My office is by the Colonnade, so I'm not far from there at all. We got some crazy wind/hail.
So weird. We're on the west side of 31, just behind Publix in Vestavia and got nothing. Our friends directly east of us on the other side of 31 all got covered in hail.
Huge tree fell on my neighbor's property and missed my car and garage by about 3 feet yesterday. No real damage other than destroying my neighbor's fence That storm was one of the most bizarre in my life. It wasn't bad at all in my area and just got insanely intense with wind, pounding hail, etc for like ten minutes and that was it.
http://www.al.com/business/index.ssf/2017/04/this_horse_drinks_a_good_peopl.html You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink, the saying goes. Beer? Now, that's another story. Take Mac, a horse at King's Home in Chelsea. Mac drinks a Good People Brewing beer a day. King's home provides services to women and children who have been abused or who are at risk of being abused, one of those services being equine therapy. Mac was given to King's Home, but he had some health problems like Cushings disease. A symptom of his ailment is Anhidrosis, or losing the ability to sweat. His vet told the staff at King's Home to try giving him a beer each day, in addition to other therapies like supplements. The staff gave it a try, and his condition improved. He's been drinking a beer a day for almost a year. "Beer has ingredients that can open the pores and help them sweat," King's Home Development Director John Tidwell said. There's no alcohol allowed on King's Home's campus. Mac's beer is locked in a cabinet. Mac's in his early 20s, but they're not sure exactly how old. That's around middle aged for a horse, and Tidwell jokes that he's started drinking in his midlife crisis. Tidwell knew Good People's Cofounder Jason Malone, so he called him and asked if he'd essentially sponsor Mac's medicine by donating the beer. Malone happily agreed. "Apparently, he's a big fan of IPAs. He'll be our biggest, literally and figuratively, IPA fan," Malone said. Mac's health has improved immensely and he's working with kids again. He visited Good People's Brewery before it opened on Thursday. "God has just really provided for us in an incredible way," Tidwell said.
My flight from Michigan to Birmingham today was cancelled and rebooked for tomorrow. Just got notice that flight was cancelled and pushed to Saturday. I'm about to to lose it
The wife and I went to Roots and Revelry for the first time, tonight, and we both really enjoyed it. Cool spot with good food.
Drinks and dessert could use some work, but everything else I've had there the two times I've been has been great.
80s/60s all damn wk. Pretty dry. Ridging settling in on the eastern seaboard. May be 2-3 wks until rain. Which sucks. So. Yeah. Next week you prob gonna need to water grass/plants
I won VIP passes last year and they were awesome, but no way would I have been able to justify paying for them ($325). I think that the iron passes may be worth it just for being able to skip beer lines and for the A/C. I'm probably going to regret only getting GA this year when it's miserably hot, but I got them for $99 apiece during the presale so can't be too mad.
If any of y'all have never been, I'd strongly encourage going to Barber at some point this weekend. It's one of Birmingham's best events.
could depend on what day/what time you're trying to get there. but generally, i've found that the parts of day that people go are staggered enough to where uber isn't really an issue.
Do you uber to the outlets and then take the bus in? I don't think it'd be a problem on Saturday, but I can't imagine ubering on Sunday. I live that parking pass life, though.
Half the property is parking spots. Have been to probably 6-8 races and never had trouble finding parking. I did have a pass for most though.
You don't really need a pass any day but Sunday. On Sunday, if you don't have one, you have to park at the outlet mall and take a school bus. It's not that big of a deal, though.
are you talking about the stuff at barber? i thought DaveGrohl was asking about parking for slossfest, so now i'm all mixed up.
classic mix-up. well yeah, i've always been fine using uber for slossfest. the one slight annoyance i seem to recall was leaving being more difficult than getting there, but i was pretty drunk both nights last year so i'm having trouble remembering whether that was even a big thing. i'll let others chime in, but my gut says to skip the parking pass.
