We used to live pretty close to Mr Ps before moving to Vestavia. Kool Korner and Diplomat just can't compete.
Kool Korner is delicious you fucking heathens. Also apples and oranges. If you want a Cuban go to Kool Korner, if you want something else go to Mr P's. There.
I find Mr. P's to be overrated. Sandwiches are good and I enjoy them, but I don't see anything to rave about. Mr. P's, Diplomat, Kool Korner, Sol's, Brick & Tin, NY Butcher all have good sandwiches that I like, but I still feel like there is room for a truly great deli in Birmingham which we don't have.
Scroll up dumbass Hope this thread likes drought again and could be even worse..since you people gotta have your tball and family outings as we go 3+ wks without rain in our wet season. Light rain sat night.
Going to a wedding in Sylacauga this weekend.... Isnt one of the Auburn posters from there? Is there anything to do during the day? Or should I plan to hang out in Birmingham and just drive down to the wedding? Pretty sure it's dry, and the reception is in Harpersville.
There are a few things to do during the day. Odies deli is pretty good for food and marble city grill isn't too shabby either. If you want to have some good beer the fermenters market is really nice. https://m.facebook.com/Fermenters-Market-At-the-Rex-736029716427987/ Farmlinks isn't too far away if you want to go golfing or skeet shooting. Just google pursell farms and it should tell you all about it. It's kind of expensive but it's a great course.
Bham's deli game is terrible if you're used to good, East Coast (hell, even CHI/STL) delis. I have always left Diplomat disappointed. Will be trying Mr. P's soon.
Very. There's a "funzone" that has all sorts of kids' activities. The one thing I would recommend is bringing some kind of hearing protection for the little one if you get close. It's nothing like Sunday when you have the Indy race going on, but it still gets loud.
Always found it interesting that the southbound road sign where the Red Mtn Expressway meets Hwy 280 says Sylacauga. How many people are driving south from Bham and heading to little old Sylacauga?
Appreciate the advice. Unfortunately, I think the wedding party is going to have Purcell booked for the day. Atleast the shooting portion of it.
My brother swears by that Fermenter place but I've never been. You might want to just hang in Bham but be careful driving through Harpersville if you have a couple.
And lists the mileage going up the hill to the waterwrks randomly saying the distance to childersburg and slyacauga 99.9% of people are driving between there and chelsea
Sorry; just saw this. Y'all are walking distance to saw's and close to otey's. If y'all went out with the couple, I bet you ended up at Paramount.
I already miss saws and the breweries more than anything. The Georgia beer game is dog shit compared to Birmingham.
Savannah, yes. Atlanta/Athens, not even close. We did just get Good People here, and I've really been digging Hitchhiker. How y'all liking it down there?
One of the guys we're staying with recommended chez fonfon. Is that burger good? Otherwise going to saws
Debatable. And I'm more talking about the laws regulating how breweries can serve the public. You have to "take a tour" to actually drink there and it limits the experience. They don't operate as fully functioning bars. The best bar in Birmingham is arguably Avondale. I don't even love their beers but the setup is amazing.
And I love it so far. Don't really know too many people yet but Jesus this place is beautiful. It's also a pretty interesting mix of people. I also get to work from home so I actually see the sunlight during the day and honestly it's made me more productive at work. Y'all have to come visit us sometime. I think we're gonna try to get your brother over here soon and you should tag along.
The beer laws here are so absurd in that regard. Thankfully new legislation was passed this year that's going to change it.
Scofflaw is my favorite brewery in Atlanta. Highly doubt they'll be going too far outside of the local market, but if you ever come across some over there, buy it.
Ah didn't know that. That helps immensely. Do you know when it will go into effect? I honestly like Hoplin IPA but the southbound experience wasn't nearly as good as bham.
I've grown to really like Red Hills. Their beer is solid and sessionable. Sammy Meatballs and I sat up there for like five hours of the "one more beer" game a couple months back.
Love Orpheus. They're a little polarizing because they do so many sours, etc but they do really well with the pales/ipas too.
