So, I got shitfaced/self medicated on Saturday. After the fight, got into an argument with my wife about where we parked and went in separate directions. She found the truck and offered me a ride when she found me walking down University, which I turned down. I walked from Bartow to Lakeview and then from Lakeview to J Clyde.
She was actually pretty cool about it. Mad, but I've definitely gotten worse. She got over it by about noon Sunday.
BBQ thread reminded me.. I stopped in and had Saws BBQ last time through there.. got the small sampler and it was some of the finest bbq I've had from a restaurant or otherwise in quite some time. Was entirely too stuffed to consider the banana pudding but I'm guessing by how good everything was that it was surely fire as well. Good talk.
In high school Duke Buster and I got left at a party and had to walk from Grayton to San Destin in the wee hours of the morning .
It was a solid 4 hours, considering our state of being plus walking on the sand for a good portion of it. It fucking sucked.
Went went before Slicefest. First time sitting down there. Got the chicken and greens. Was delicious but good god I couldn't move and I didn't even finish it all. And I'm a fatass.
I honestly couldn't tell you. I know at one point I realized I was in Homewood and made my way to 31 and then went up over the mountain. By the time I reached McDonalds I downed two sausage egg and cheeses and then used their phone to get a ride since mine was dead. Got home and slept for like 12 hours.
After Alabama beat Georgia in 2008 we drank a bunch of moonshine and then went Innisfree. A buddy got kicked out and refused to get in the cab for the ride home. He walked the blue route home. As most of you probably know, it is almost all uphill. He said he passed out a few times in random yards. Took him 5-6 hours.
Tried walking not even 1 mile drunkenly in Mtn Brook in the wee hours of the morning once. Never again. Ever.
I had a buddy get in a cab to go from Otey's to crestline park, when some girl got in saying she called the cab and asked to go to Billy's. He agreed to share the cab. They go to Billy's, and she said she meant the other one. They go there and it's closed. She then demands they take her home to her apartment in English Village. At that point, he said "no, take me home first or let me out here." She said no, and that she'd pay the whole thing. He reluctantly obliged. So, the proceed to English Village. They pull up to the building she claims is hers, and she gets out and BOLTS. Fucking sprints away. The cab driver starts yelling at my buddy about how he owes him eighty bucks, or he's calling the cops. So, he takes off. He sprints through yards, hops a few fences, and one he feels comfortably away from the cops, sent out a pin to a few of us asking to come pick him up. Spoiler It was actually written up in the crime report in the Village Living.
Going to a wedding at Shoal Creek this weekend. I don't play golf, but I'm looking forward to riding the course on Saturday and downing a bunch of beers with the rest of the wedding party that does.
Forgive my country club stupidity, but do you think I'll still be able to walk and drink beer? I literally have no idea how this stuff works.
I went to the Great Wall on Valley for the first time today. They've gotten a new chef, apparently, and he's amazing. Our waiter was also extremely bright and helpful. We both ordered off-menu recommendations and it was phenomenal. Like NYC/London/San Francisco quality authentic Chinese food. I really like the Red Pearl, but this kicked the shit out of it.
Haven't tried Great Wall yet, that sounds great. Always been Mr. Chens and Red Pearl for me, so this would be a nice addition.
Also, there is a new place at Patton Creek called China Bistro which just looks like your standard run of the mill Chinese place, but they have a few really good menu items. Get the shrimp in dry hot pot.
I love Red Pearl, but it's generally a little too salty. Mr. Chen's is excellent, but too far out of the way for me. Great Wall was better than either one tonight. We had the steamed bun (which were the best I've had outside of NYC) and the garlic-cumin ribs and "fish in lava." Neither was on the menu, but we're recommended by the waiter. Both were fantastic. The fish broth was spicy, but still pretty complicatedly flavorful. I was very pleasantly surprised.
I wish I could tell you that Barves fought the good fight And the Mtn Brook PD let him be. I wish I could tell you that.
While we're on the topic of late night idiotic drunken walks...Pulled this one one night...Didn't use the walking route option on google because we walked the interstate, crossed 65 and walked against traffic a good portion of the route...so dangerous and stupid....but in hindsight looking at this map, the interstate was probably safer than cutting through Ensley at 2 in the a.m.
holy shit. people cant drive that stretch of 65 in broad daylight, let alone at 2am jesus a large portion of this thread/TMB should be dead/in jail based off college years alone
I have two good friends that live together in the area. Both had been at bourbon st. and one drove by the other twice while getting food and honked at them like saying hey, not I'm gonna pick you up. Only when the other walked in pissed off as shit 30 minutes later did it click that he was walking home and would have wanted a ride.
supposed to have started at 1030 but you know the clusterfuck that is uptown when an event is ongoing, especially the idiots from trussville thinking they can get a primo parking spot in the deck
The same thing happened when I saw him in Atlanta. The logistics of emptying the venue and refilling it caused the problem.
I first read this as your friend in the car had driven to get food twice, not that he passed him once on the way and once on the way back, but that he passed him four times total times. I didn't laugh, or say wtf, or what an idiot, or anything like that. My only thought was, "I bet that was Kenny going to Waffle House twice."
