not a fan of dave grohl but saw they did this a few weeks ago and thought it was really cool. the kid they brought up was goofy but a pretty decent drummer
i think they're talented musicians but their music just feels like derivative, contrived rock n' roll. i'm sure i'd enjoy a live show tho. and dave grohl does seem like a good/funny dude--the real one, not the one itt who says hurtful things :(
does that preclude me from still hating it though? it's cool that they're self-aware, but it's just not my bag.
yeah not really my thing either. i mean i went to wilco two weekends ago, and they're one of my favorite bands, so i'm not trying to act as though i'm above dad rock-ish stuff. just have always sorta disliked the foo fighters' version of it.
we're past the days where dad rock was whatever played on a classic rock station. wilco is absolutely part of a new class of dad rock. not that there's anything wrong with that.
foo fighters just feels very middle school-ish to me, not my sound. they have a cool stage set up, though, and the show looked like a good time. one of my phish friends went (not a foo fighters fan) and said it felt sort of corny for the first hour but by the end he was into it, and that the band had a solid energy and the fan base was pretty cool. RE2PECT
You do you. Music is one of the most subjective things on the planet. But 100% of anything you will ever listen to is derivative so I don’t get how that matters. But contrived? Hard to say that about them.
yeah i'm 25 and my dad introduced me to wilco when i was in like 9th grade. so that's about the best anecdotal evidence ever
and while this is still relevant, i don't get how you don't like grohl unless you're just 100% a cynical asshole who enjoys nothing in life.
I don’t dislike him, but i also see no reason to like him as I don’t find the cool dad routine to be enough reason to like him considering his shitty band and their shitty music
Quick poll here. Howls and Growls at Old Car Heaven and then bars afterwards or stay at home and watch football
This is where I'm leaning. I'm one of the last single dudes in our 30ish year old group and I'd be the lone single person in this group tonight.
I’ll be there...Mrs.DrivebyBbq is on the jr board...she said they sold over 400 tickets not including corporate tickets. Should be a good time and definitely a great cause. Also, holy shit at the costume contest cash prizes. 2k best group costume 1k best couples 500 best individual 500 crowd favorite
Howls and Growls was a great time and really good turn out...nothing like Halloween to ignite my enthusiasm for bullshiting with a bunch of strangers...I love it. There were some great costumes too. Third Eye Blind @ Iron City tonight, sold out...last year was epic, I underestimated the number of hits those guys put out.
Man, I’m tellin you, my wife drug me there last year...I think I ended up having the best time of anyone there...nothing but sing-along bangers from your childhood.
My office is in Vestavia, near the new publix and that “Patchwork Farms” development. There’s a “Baha Gourmet Burgers” there. I thought it was a chain, but it’s apparently just the second one (first being in Hoover). It’s surf/tiki themed. I guess no one bothered to find out that it’s spelled “Baja” and it’s in Mexico.
So, they just opened a Metro Diner right in front of Vestavia City Hall and I have to say, it’s pretty good. Walking distance from my house, too.
You’ll also like to know I spoke to a neighbor who claims TreeTop apts are going away and being replaced with a retail/residential complex. Factor in the upgrades to Wald Park and surrounding areas and we got a stew going.
