I know they're good players and all, and the depth in the women's draw is ridiculous, but Sabalenka and Muguruza are ranked way too high right now - there's no way they're #2 & 5 in the world.

 

Sabalenka was one of the most consistent women this year. I’d actually be interested in seeing some sort of comparison on how many played with a breakdown on where they finished. Sabalenka went deep many times. Depending on how bored I get at work next I might do that.

 

2 Slam SF's and a Madrid title will propel you quite a bit.

 

For sure, but I'd argue too much. She's #2 in the world without even making a slam final, let alone winning one.

But then, the WTA ranking system has always been bonkers. The number of girls that have been #1 without winning a slam - or prior to their first - is crazy. It shouldn't happen. I know I bash Barty a bit for some of her performances, but at least she's won 2 of them so she deserves top spot right now.

 

I think we’re saying the same thing in that there’s no way she’s the second best woman on the planet. I don’t hate her at all, I hate the ranking system though. It’s not her fault though, everyone knows how that’s determined and to her credit she battles and goes deep often.

I don’t really understand why people are mad about that. Emails from the tours get leaked all the time.

 

My theory is that the issue here is that the vaccinated players don't need to be in a bubble or isolate - this may change if the general public gets a wind of the plan, since the locals are supposed to be in lockdown / quarantine frequently.

 

If you aren't mad at something, you're wrong. Be outraged and move on.
