This is just a complete farce now.
What a clusterfuck
Coco up a set and break two different times on Ash but couldn’t pull the 2nd out and flamed out in the 3rd. Encouraging result I think against the world #1 to start a season.
So it seems the Border Force, even without a support from the Victorian Government on his visa, can let him in anyway and likely will according to the newspaper story.
Fuck Djokovic. Such a shame he’s the way he is. We were spoiled with Federer and Nadal.
Tiafoe loses to Kokkinakis. Glad to see Kokk back at it
Replay of Shelby - Sakkari on TC. Shelby looks to be in incredible physical shape, even compared to where she was last season which was a big step forward.
what a loser
Get fucked Novak
As much as he deserves to be going through this grief at the moment, I'm embarrassed for my country by how messy and chaotic the whole thing has become. We're not normally this incompetent and a lot of it smells like political opportunism with an election coming up in the next 6 months.
That said, Serbia's president can fuck right off.
Every country has been using Covid for political gains unfortunately
If Novak was unhappy with fan treatment before…
Sure that’s always going to happen, you don’t have to explain political opportunism to people in here, we could probably teach a doctorate level class on that.
I don’t care about that, just glad you have some people that have a fucking backbone there.
TC Live starting now on TC. Interested to see what they say.
Up until now, our government's generally been making decisions based on people's welfare and safety. There's been some mistakes here and there, but their hearts have usually been in the right place.
This, though? This looks like they've looked at the reaction from the general public about Tennis Australia's ridiculous decision and decided there might be some mileage in it for them.
Oh, I am - if this somehow prevents an unvaccinated Djokovic from entering the country, then I'll be thrilled - the right result will have been reached. It's just that all of these organisations resemble the Keystone Cops right now and it's pretty embarrassing.
Truth is that Novak is a moron.
Can't argue that.
This guy Safiullin, I have never heard of, having an ATP Cup to remember.
Is this another Russian thats going to have a Karatsev type of year?
Matteo and Medvedev in a tight 2nd set
Felix beating Sasha In 3. Nice!
Nadal on Djokovic:
"Of course I don't like the situation that is happening," Nadal told reporters after winning his match at the Melbourne Summer Set ATP 250 tournament. "In some way I feel sorry for him.
"But at the same time, he knew the conditions since a lot of months ago, so he makes his own decision."
“It’s normal that the people here in Australia get very frustrated with the case because they have been going through a lot of very hard lockdowns,” Nadal said.
Nadal said that he believes “in what the people who know about medicine say, and if the people say we need to get vaccinated, we need to get the vaccine,” before pointedly adding, “If you do this, you don’t have any problem to play here.”
“If you are vaccinated, you can play in the Australian Open and everywhere,” he added.
So where is the war criminal now? Saw something today where his family was holding a press conference and he wasnt there.
Quarantine hotel until his legal appeal is heard I believe
Kenin/Barty right now
I tell you, fucking Tennis Australia and their bullshit exemptions...
"Veteran Czech Republic tennis player Renata Voracova has been detained by Australian Border Force officials and had her visa revoked, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
"A source familiar with the case said the Czech player entered Australia with a vaccine exemption on the basis she had been infected with COVID-19 in the last six months. This was the same reason used by Novak Djokovic," the newspaper says.
Voracova, 38, is believed to be being held in the same Melbourne hotel as men's world No.1 Djokovic, who is contesting his revoked visa in a court hearing set for Monday morning."
Regardless of the result of his appeal, heads need to roll for allowing Djokovic and Voracova into the country on that basis.
Becoming painfully clear that Tennis Australia should never have put a player exemption option on the table. Would’ve avoided all this mess.
And it would’ve been fine. There are least two mens players who are skipping the Aussie because of the vaccine, Djokovic and others should have joined them.
Craig Tiley is about to get fired.
So this is more on TA than it is Djokovic
Starting to look that way. It's still on Novak in the sense all of this could be avoided if he'd just get vaccinated and not doing so invites issues. But TA definitely fucked up and seemingly led him astray and/or tried to pull a fast one on the government.
As much as I hate the guy, he's clearly been misled by TA on this. As such, Tiley has to go - this is a fuck up of monumental proportions.
Still wouldn't have made any difference though, as I don't see him vaccing up to enter the country - the lunatic's made his opinion pretty clear there.
Why doesn’t Djokavic just fly home ? fighting this then eventually playing anyway would be a massive shit show . Trying to turn it into a geopolitical fight is embarrassing
He could fly home. Why doesn’t he? For the same reason as always with him. He’s a gigantic fucking douchebag.
Lots of good info in here.
He was always going to challenge the decision - he's such an arrogant douche that never thinks he's in the wrong. And being an anti-vaxxer just means he's even less likely to accept the government's ruling and take it to the courts.
Putting aside the fact TA fucked up badly in the first place, I don't see how he wins this. The government has made it clear - you don't enter the country unless you're double vaxxed or have a valid exemption, and he's got neither. Surely a court can't overrule that.
Now we get Felix Medvedev
I can't believe Shapo ended up winning that - I turned over to watch a bit of Grigor in Melbourne & Shapo was in a bit of strife in the 3rd. Great win against a serious player.
Ash Barty now 16-1 against top-10 players since the beginning of last season after beating Iga 2 and 4 this morning.
I hope she learns from last year and has a light week going into the AO. I can't remember which slam it was where she made a bunch of finals leading up and then had nothing left for the actual major.
Edit: Just checked - it was the French. She'd won 16 matches on clay and, surprise!, ended up retiring from the French with a hip injury. This early in the season, players really need to be careful going into a slam with either too little or too much preparation.
