I read something to the effect that NYC is cancelling all events through mid September. Not sure it can considered an event without a crowd, but who knows how that impacts the Open.
Can’t be overstated how important it is for Wimbledon to still be giving prize money. That’s great. Interesting timing on the grass court formula going away, but I think it had outlived its purpose. Surfaces are too similar now.
Nah, everything is either exho’s or World Team Tennis right now. For the men, first real tournament is Washington on 8/14. Tsitsipas and Medvedev the biggest names on the preliminary list. For the women, there’s a clay event in Italy the first week of August, headlined by Halep and Jo Konta. First women’s event in the US is the next week in Lexington, Kentucky. Serena is playing it, as is Sloane Stephens.
can never say never in this current environment if something changes from a public health standpoint but logistically it's all systems go
Strong group of wild cards. Glad to see CiCi back. Clijsters was awesome in World Team Tennis. Same goes for Nakashima.
They keep cutting to Coco's dad wearing his mask covering his mouth and chin but nowhere close to his nose and it's bugging the shit out of me.
I really like her game. Lots of touch and polish, with just enough power on the lefty forehand. Serve has to get better. Like you said, she’s got to muscle up if she wants to really compete. But at 17, you can’t ask for much better than what she’s put together.
It's gotta be some kind of unique experience to be there for what feels like a private showing of Serena vs. Venus
It's so rare for Serena to get out to an early start now that I figured she might roll up some games as well. Good fight back from Venus.
