Thiem is carrying over his momentum from the ATP finals. He’s looked fantastic all week. If it’s Nadal/Thiem next round I wouldn’t be surprised if Thiem wins.

Also, I know there were more upsets on the other half of the bracket but it really looks like Nadal got fucked on the draw compared to Federer/Djokovic.

 

They should just let the coaches sit on the court. And let them coach on change overs. Coaching from the stands is weird as fuck.

 

This is about over. Hopefully Medvedev/Wawrinka is more competitive.

so Kyrgios have any chance vs Nadal? I only know him from Deadspin's coverage and he seems pretty unreliable

 

He’s 3-4 against him in his career. I’d put it at 20%.

 

Kyrgios hates Nadal so he always shows up when he plays him. I guess he could break down physically since he doesn’t take care of his body as he should and he just had that marathon against Khachanov last round. It honestly depends on the Kyrgios serve. Even when Nadal beats him he struggles against the serve and usually has to win in tiebreaks. I put it at 60-40 Nadal.

 

Medvedev’s defense is insane.

 

That’s a really impressive win from Wawrinka. Medvedev didn’t play poorly at all.

 

Nick came to play. He just needs to not go for too much and he’ll be right there.

This is fantastic. Love to watch everyone get behind Nick. Regardless of the outcome I think this may be a turning point for his career.

Went to bed after the second set. Not really surprised at the outcome. Happy to hear that Nick kept his cool and fought until the end. Hopefully this is a turning point for him. He has too much talent to waste.

Nadal/Thiem should be the match of the QF. 50/50 for me.

 

Nicks issues are not against the top tier players. His issues are being interested consistent and engaged to get to the point where he faces the cream of the crop. I think he was probably good for this period because of the relief effort, esprit de corps and home town crowds.

I personally love watching him play so I’m rooting for him just wouldn’t say this is some life defining moment at this point. I hope he lasts longer than Acapulco this season.
