French are always undefeated in their cuntiness. It’s actually impressive, I honestly would not expect any different.
Good on Naomi, fuck the Clubs. The clubs played with fire and got burnt. I’m so tired of the entitlement media has towards athletes and how they should act/what they should do
That was my reaction as well - they acted the bully boys and Naomi called them on it. Now she's got the vast majority of public opinion on her side and the tennis public are rightly dumping on them. There were a number of ways the slams could have reacted to her media ban and they chose the absolute worst one - bullying her, fining her heavily, threatening future bans and basically trying to ridicule her. The thing they forgot was, they need her more than she needs them. Now they know. Edit: And I'm personally ashamed the Aust Open were a part of all this. I would have expected so much better from them. You're a disgrace - we don't act towards people like this, you dicks. Especially someone clearly exhibiting signs of some mental health stress over the past week.
BTW, when a lot of "media" is social media... I don't really care for this being an obligation for athletes. My personal opinion.
The slams are in a tough position because if you just let her skip all media, how do you get anyone else to ever meet with the media?
You fine them $15k like they did her. The number of players that can afford to pay that over the course of a tournament are minuscule. Naomi said from the beginning she was fine with the monetary penalty.
do you pay attention to main network media? Or is the media we all look at coming from twitter, IG, FB, etc. The issue in general, and a different discussion, is we're a headline generation
Her issue is specifically with in person tournament media as I read it. In terms of the anxiety piece, I get that. We could pull un like 50 posts talking about how awkward she was during wins ITT. Despite what someone else said, it has nothing to do with social media IMO, she’s a master in that arena, because it’s not “social anxiety”.
Is there any more details about what exactly? Is there anything they could to to ease those issues so it isn't all or nothing?
Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying she should be allowed to get off scott free and unilaterally decide to do no media. But there are ways of handling things and these idiots completely butchered the situation and made things multiple times worse, so much so that the best player in the world pulled out of the tournament.
Finishing up handicapping tomorrows matches. Kohlschreiber/Verdasco match to me is hilarious. Both are 37
If her mental health is in a poor place, it's probably best that she withdrew, I applaud her taking care of herself first.
I’d argue I hate him more than anyone else ITT, it’s well documented. So the moral of the story is, I’m with you.
Speaking of people I'd like to punch in the face, it seems Piers Morgan has got tired of shitting on MM and has moved on to Naomi...
So does Serena feel bad for throwing her tantrum that led the crowd to boo Naomi in 2018? Saw something tonight that referenced that that experience started her depression.
I see Bencic bombed out badly in R2 - I thought she might go alright after a strong first round performance, but not so much.
This atmosphere in the Fognini match is awesome. Italians have showed out as much as possible crowd wise
Barty already down 1-4 in the first. Considering what a front runner she normally is, this looks bad.
And there you go - the inevitable retirement. God, I am just so pissed at whoever thought it was a good idea to load up her schedule leading into the French. Well done, geniuses... So, not even finished the 2nd round and Osaka's pulled out, Kvitova did her ankle coming back from her presser and now Barty's body has given up on her. I guess this is the French after all...
Sloane with a really nice win over the good Pliskova. That top quarter is pretty wide open now with Ash out and plenty of big names left. Sloane, Jabeur, Coco and Brady if they both win today, Muchova as well.
I think rog has mastered the whole losing a set thing. Doesn’t waste any energy, might just probe the perimeter and then come out blazing the following set.
Roger! I know there is no chance of this happening but I would literally cream my pants if Roger took out Novák in the quarters.
