Im actually listening to that right now. CRAZY (it would prob be in my next tier of favorites for the year)
I really really liked Relatives in Descent and it would be in the next group of five or so. But I like it less than their three previous albums. For whatever reason it just kind of makes me depressed listening to it in its entirety. Whereas their past albums got me fired up. Probably more a reflection of my life at the time it came out than the music to be honest
I think this might be my favorite song of the year. Although I will wait a couple more weeks to make that determination Equestrian by Omni
The Quietus has a pretty unique best of 2017 list. Some stuff on here I had never heard of for sure http://thequietus.com/articles/23660-albums-of-the-year-2017
I find it amusing that so many of these best album lists have nothing but Hip Hop in the top 10. I love Hip Hop but this trend is stupid.
going to see Shamir tonight. Should be fun Paste with their top 20 new artists of 2017....many of these have been fawned over in here https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2017/12/the-20-best-new-artists-of-2017.html
yeah it has been weird to go through and see all the traditional hipster favorites and then cardi b is #1
so Shamir was pretty terrible. But his opening act, Partner, was amazing. The band is fronted by a couple lesbian girls who are incredible on guitar. They released In Search of Lost Time earlier this fall and it is really really solid Pop Matters with their top 60 albums of 2017 https://www.popmatters.com/60-best-albums-of-2017-2516162820.html and Loud and Quiet's top 40 albums of 2018 https://www.loudandquiet.com/short/best-albums-2017-loud-and-quiet-top-40/
pitchfork list seems like 50% hippity hop https://pitchfork.com/features/lists-and-guides/the-50-best-albums-of-2017/
Yes, I think so. Has some natural breaks in but it's sort of early Voltaish. Not a comp at all obviously but with the breaks and concept it's similar.
Probably not the best venue for this post, but we don't really have a concert thread (that I know of), so I'll leave it here. I'm seeing the Misfits reunion show on Dec 30th in LA (first performance since Riot Fest last year) and just got a bizarre e-mail. They're trying to make it a "cell phone free environment" during the show, and will give everyone in the 20k person venue a Yondr cell phone lock bag. When you walk in, you have to put your cell phone in the bag, and while you can't see the phone or use it at all, it's still on you at all times. In case of an emergency, they have "unlock stations" in the concourse where you can temporarily unlock your phone before going back in with it locked. Has anyone heard of this before? I've never heard of a full arena go cell phone free. They said if they catch you using a cell phone or trying to break into your Yondr, they will kick you out. Honestly, can see a lot of artists doing this in the future if it works and is economical. https://www.overyondr.com/howitworks
Father John Misty asked everyone to keep their phones in their pockets. Dave Chappelle had security escort out folks who were using phones. But never seen such an effort as that
Thank you for posting this! Had no idea he was still around and kicking. Sonic Youth is still in my rotation and kind of surprised he never showed up as a recommended listen. Can distinctly hear his influence. Sounds stupid because he is both. Regardless thanks, quite a catalog to catch up on.
Sonic Youth was exactly what came to mind listening to this album, has moments of Omar Rodriguez Lopez playing in major splashed in too so it's really a wonder I'm a fan
feel like hes done about 20 different projects the last few years with different people. I think I had read he supposedly completed a german techno album, but it hasnt been released yet.
Best list I've seen so far as far as the majority sounding like they'd be my thing. Makes me want to get Spotify premium and listen to them all
Seems like Damn's almost universally #1. As a Kendrick fan, I tried sporadically all year to get that thing to click for me, with just marginal success. The intro track where he's telling the story of the old lady is honestly my favorite part.
Wild Nothing to share new music in 2018 At the end of 2016 I was really looking forward to or hoping for new releases from Bully, Real Estate, White Reaper, Fleet Foxes, Beach Fossils, Future Islands, Alvvays, etc Right now I'm praying for new stuff from Preoccupations, Blouse, Chris Cohen, DIIV, Craft Spells and Heron Oblivion Anyone yall are hoping to see release new stuff in 2018?

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard released their fifth album of the year yesterday. It's called Gumboot Soup. Listen at the link below http://www.brooklynvegan.com/king-g...d-release-5th-lp-of-2017-gumboot-soup-listen/ also, some best of 2017 picks from the employees at Grimey's in Nashville (best record store in town) http://www.grimeys.com/staff-picks/
The album he dropped last year is better but this new one he dropped a couple days ago is really good too
